Location: Feeding Hills, MA | What would be your choice: Deacon, UK II or Preacher Deluxe. I hope to eventually get them all, but that will not be for awhile, so I need to focus on one...which one? |

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | Tough choice as they are completely different instruments. The Deacon and Preacher Deluxe will sound "similar" because they have the same active electronics and pickups so the choice on those is more about style. The UKII is a very versatile instrument with a completely different tone, sustain and play characteristics. |

Location: Feeding Hills, MA | Hence my dilemma. I've never actually played any of them. I know how a preacher feels, but not with active electronics. I have held a breadwinner, but again, have not heard it amplified. Never even seen a UK II live and in person, but have heard so much about them, I can't resist (the GAS is awful!). I'm thinking the UK II could replace my Epi black beauty, but I really want to try something with active electronics...just don't know which way to turn but have an opportunity for each of them. And yes, it has been suggested to just "get them all". Wish I could!

Location: Feeding Hills, MA | Thanks AJ,
I appreciate your input. I've been in touch with him, but I have enough trouble with 6 strings, the extra 6 that come on the Deacon 12 would only confuse me more! As it is, even getting one will stretch the budget, so one it will have to be. :( By the way, this is all Miles fault...I was content just looking at the Baron Audio site before I even knew about OFC. Then SOLD signs went up all over the place and i just couldn't cope having missed out, so here I am with this problem... |

The UKII should be #1 |

Mike, first, thou must never again compare the UKII to an Epiphone. Tis sacrilege! Replace it? Uh.... YEAH! EASILY!
As for active electronics, the UKII has the sustain and tone similar to active electronics without the battery. Those pickups are amazing.
I think I'll end up getting a Deacon some day too  |

For a fantastic playing guitar, don't count out the Viper. |

Location: Utah | If'n you're asking me, I'd get a Deacon. There's something about the shape, probably from seeing it when I was a teenager in the 70's. I'm not a fan of how the Les Paul shape feels, so the Viper is out for me. My daughter already has a nice Preacher Deluxe, which she chose over the Deacon. I like the sounds and the feel of the Preacher. The shape is ok, in fact it is nicer in person than it looks in pictures, less SG looking than I expected. But it still isn't a Deacon/Breadwinner in shape. |

Location: Feeding Hills, MA | So far the UK II is in the lead, but I AM in love with the Deacon body style. Yes, I know there is no comparison between an Ovation and an Epi, but the Epi was the first guitar I got when I decided to start playing. I have thought about a Viper, in fact I was considering the MWoody special that was up about a month ago, but I'm not sure I would like the narrower nut width (fat, highly inexperienced fingers). But again, I have never seen one in person.
If I knew I could sell the Epi right away, I might try for both the Deacon and UK II right away and be done for awhile. :D Keep your recommendations coming, I appreciate the input.

Location: enid, ok | I've never played a UK II, so my 2 cents doesn't count. I'm thinking of picking one up, too. But I can't say enough about Deacons/Breadwinners with the mini-hummers. Fantastic guitars. |
