He was doing the whole looping thing 30-odd years ago, long before digital. He was raised in Glasgow and considered himself Scottish. I drove a couple of hundred miles today buying a new PT Cruiser. I must've heard "May You Never" on the radio a dozen times, and it's such a great song I could have listened to it few dozen times more. John Martyn was a serious hellraiser, he knew he was on the way out, and he couldn't have cared less. His back catalog is a legacy to be envied by any artist. |

I enjoyed browsing through John's website...what a prolific artist and writer he was...as a writer myself, I appreciate the way he shared his soul through his music...The one thing that comes through in a huge way: this man played and wrote...a lot! Food for thought!
Have a good rest John, thanks for the legacy! |

I grew up in the Northern Plains here in the US and heard about him and listened to his records beginning in the '70's. I always read album credits and saw his name as the author of the songs that so many artists interpreted. He was a great artist and a "singer's songwriter" too. |

Sorry for jumping ship just had to ask. Just pulled out the rear seats to get it ready for hauling PA and guitars. Very cool, tons of room. I'll decide whether I really like it when we figure out the gas mileage. |

Location: Wichita, KS | I'm wondering if any of our American brothers and sisters know who we're talking about? Oh, yes! I saw John open for Eric Clapton at the Pittsburgh Civic Arena back around 1977 or so. His solo performance blew away Clapton that night. I went out the next day, bought his "One World" LP and I've been a big fan ever since. "Bless the Weather", "Head and Heart", "May You Never", "Couldn't Love You More", and "Send Me One Line" are among my favorite songs of all time. |

Location: Campbell River, British Columbia | Thanks Paul. Yes, beautiful mumbles and sweet playing with mournful undertones amidst a longing for joy....am I missing anything?
It's sweet. I don't have that much of a sweet tooth.
I'm a heathen... There are many great acts whose talent I think I recognize but they don't excite my imagination and heart.
....maybe more of a philisteen ;-) |
