A month or so ago, I joined the forum to ask a simple question about an old guitar. Prior to this, I was a happy old clam, living my life in complete guitar oblivion. I would pull out one of my guitars and bang around on it for awhile, then put it away.

Since that innocent question and getting involved in this evil forum, I have gone out and bought a new acoustic amp, I'm thinking of selling 2 of my guitars and getting a new one, I've visited music stores, looked at used guitars from individual sellers, dragged out my old guitars and put new strings on them, been checking out ebay and craigslist for good deals, pulled out my "book of songs" and started playing the old ones, been checking accesory items out like the Digitech Vocalist.

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE!!!!!? Does anyone else believe, like I do, that it's a big conspiracy on the part of the music industry to infect us with GAS. I'm trying hard to fight the disease, but I think I'm losing the battle.

Welcome. When I first found this place, my signature line would have said Matrix, Applause 12 and Celebrity. Then the Celebrity immediately got replaced with the 99 Collector. Now that's gone and I've run out of room.

High-five, everybody, we got us another one.

There is no cure for GAS, Darkbar. When I joined the forum a little over 2 years ago I had 2 guitars (a Matrix was one of them). Last time I counted it was 10 - and it ain't just Os and As, a couple of high-end wood boxes are in there, too.

BTW, you gonna hook up with us when Weaser is down?

I was kinda just kidding....I knew I'd seen your posts.

Someone should start a new thread asking how people came up with their various forum names. That would be a fun topic. Some are obvious...some are strange...and some are...well, weaser? Got to be a story there.

I should'a put my full name as my forum name: "Losov Doun" then it would make sense.

I usually pick the last thing I heard on TV. In this case it was a football game and someone had just been penalized with "loss of down"

dig it out an add to it. If it's in the vault it's sufficiently old that there are enough newer folks to add to it. "Screen name" is a good search starter.

I remember those innocent times. Life was simple then. No need to find funds in clever ways, NO chasing Kids down the street for their lunch money. No need to try and hide one guitar coming in before another went out. Our just hiding one long enough for it to appear from time to time to get her used to seeing it around.
I was once Adamas free..........then Al got me on an Adamas a year habit and look at me. I check in to make sure someone is not building a collection larger than mine! It never fails.someone always is..then I am on the phone to Al again and browsing all the guitar sites and ebay. Yep.............someday you'll remember your innocent days too............ But this is much more fun!

Well, now is the time to add to a collection. Unfortunately, a lot of people have to sell stuff right now in this economy to survive, so if you have cash, the world is your oyster. I feel a little guilty taking advantage of other people's misfortune, but I guess that is life. I'll say sorry now in advance to anyone who sells me something too cheap.

OK, back on topic, sort of. Because of this conspiracy, I expanded my interest to Hamers and put a DuoTone on layaway this weekend. This morning I read an email from the guy who bought my 99 Collector. He isn't getting the sound out of it that he thought he would and is considering putting it up for auction. That flared up some seller's remorse. Buying it back could severely effect my health, but I'm thinking about it. GAS is a nasty disease.

Actually it's only been about 6 months.....I'll put it on my calender for 2010. It is a funny topic. In my case, some of my best memories are from college, playing in a dark bar for tips and free drinks, ( and the opportunity to pick up girls). It was a great time.

He's got it now and Caleb (www.balsamrange.com) was over there today as well. I'll have to come up with a story before we go up there. I'm thinking 4 out one in, we'll skip the prices, although they are about equal.
Steve told me that it has a big fat neck and action to die for, just what I like, and that it was a shame that I'd never get to play it, ever.

Whatever you do, GET THE HAMER. You already have O's, so don't blow Hamer money on buying back your old 99.

Hamers are crack with strings. Worse than Ovations if you can believe it. There is no end to the different sounds and styles you can get out of a Hamer, and they feel so sensous to hold.

I already put enough money down on the Hamer that I won't have a way out. It's just too good a deal to pass up. I just really have to learn how to play something with an electric. Seems like Hotel California is just made for the DuoTone.

You'l need a 12 string DuoTone for Hotel California (official theme song of the OFC).

Seems like it'd be hard to do the solo on a 12. That was actually one of my least favorite Eagle tunes.

DBG,
Congrats, you are definately one of us now!

Let's take a short look at Marketing in America:

Virginia Colony figures out that growing Tobacco will sustain the local economy. It is addictive and exportable. Smokers are also Drinkers so bring in the Rum Triangle!

Coca-Cola bottles the original recipe! It is addictive and exportable!Party!

Electrified Guitars become all the rage leading to Teens everywhere having parties, drinking, smoking and making babies (Market Potential).

A rebellious generation starts using different tunings, modulated rythyms and "Hybrid" instruments and techniques to set themselves apart! Black is the new Black, until they come up with a darker color! The young men are hyper trendy when they look and act totally unemployable. This generation will surely incite the next one to have short hair and to delite in being "responsible" just to piss their parents off!

Conspiracy, Evolution or Inteligent Design?

Now that I think about it, I think these "Ovation get togethers" are a conspiracy as well. Ever since the Seacow Seranade, I can't stop thinking about g8r's '09 Adamis and how sweet that thing was. I bet Ovation lent him that thing just to intice other attendees into maybe buying one. Okay, FESS UP g8r! What kinda deal you got going here?

You're right, dbg. It's the same as giving the kids candy and then walking away with a sack more of it hanging out of your back pocket. He's got me jonsing for the '08C, the AdamasI (that he hooked my WIFE on - the man is incorrigible! (but that was ok really)) AND the bearclaw Tak he brought! Then there was the 12'er that TJ wouldn't let out of his hands, the 1680 iffy had and...and...UUGGHHH!...

I believe that's an 08 Adamas Collectors....

Call AL and get one just like it, then order the 09 Ovation collectors....

then there are all the other collectors that you have missed out on..... :D

I just drool over the pictures. I did order the LAV Koa after returning from Miles' last summer and lusted for years over dvd's (now Woody's) 01 Collector. Otherwise, I've spent enough money just getting there that I don't have anything left to spend on guitars when I get back.

First Adamas I ever played I tried to buy, but Stephen wasn't ready to sell it. A few months later the same model was offered up by another OFC member, so I bought it without hesitation. It was the 30th Anniversary 1581 AdII Reissue. Between this forum and eBay, my life changed dramatically over a five year spread. Over the past two years, I wish I had put a lot more money into guitars and gear rather than the stock market.
