| Helluva show (Taks nicely represented, of course). The Boss hasn't lost it after all these years. |

But he did Well. |

Did you notice the three Takamine acoustics being played? Soozie Tyrell played a black EF261SBL and on the number with the choir Steve Van Zandt played a black EF381S 12 string. As usual Patti Scialfa played the old blue AXC prototype. Nice job by all. |

Nice to see the Max Weinberg 7 on the stage. Bruce was Bruce, as passionate as ever. His performance was fine although the forced and scripted not-so-ad-lib at the end of Glory Days with Steven is getting old.
However, as far as "best halftime show ever"...(I heard this many times since this afternoon)
I think it will be many years before Prince's 2007 performance will be topped.

Prince tore down the place! |

BTW, congrats to our Steelers' fans. |

The problem is that it was all about the show and nothing about the music. The music choices were uninspired and predictable. Prince was better by a lot. TP and The Heartbreakers were better than that. And the U2 performance was nothing short of fantastic. I'm sorry to say, Bruce looked washed up and ready for the Casino circuit. This, along with his WalMart gaffe, did not make for a good week for the Boss. |

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | I guess I'm guilty of selective memory as well. I had forgotten about U2 and Tom Petty shows. I still preferred Prince to either, all three were indeed stellar "Super Bowl" performances.
I guess the interview with Bob Costas and Bruce summed up what was delivered. When asked why he (The Boss) had finally accepted the invitation to play the Super Bowl after refusing for so many years... "I've got an album coming out now dummy" was the response.
If memory serves, the three other acts mentioned did it because it was the freak'n Super Bowl, not because they had anything in particular to plug.
FWIW, I thought Bruce's performance was fine. Again having the Weinberg 7 players along as well was pretty cool too. Changing up the words for the occasion, thoughtful. It just wasn't a "Super Bowl" performance. |

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | Yada, Yada, Yada...I have seen the Boss 3 times live in the 80's and 90's...he can still rock it and his band is still great! Is he as good as he once was? Probably not but who cares...I for one was glad to see the old dude still running, sliding, jumping and having a blast...I thought it was a great show...can't wait to replay it LOUD!
Shoot, I agree with most of what Bobbo said...U2 was unreal...I liked Petty was good, Stones sucked rocks....etc.
But it was nice to see the Boss still getting it...and the Taks did look nice...the tele is a compliation of several 50's esquires and a tele...He has several of them...I had a '52 Esq. w/added neck pup that I wish I still had...
As for the game, what can I say...I think it was one of the best I have seen in a long time...the Cards had me on the edge of wetness more than once...
Just a great, great game; Best 4th quarter by far in recent SB History!...Your milage may vary if you didn't watch the game... |

. Otto what do you mean? I watched it on our local channel.....nothing special required. Crap. Am I that far out in the sticks? Seriously, it wasn't to be found on any channel here. Even with my new fangled digital TV box. Which is kinda weird. They take their high school and college football VERY seriously in these parts. Can't imagine any station here electing not to carry the SuperBowl if it was available.
Nice... :(

Location: Chehalis, Washington | I was working a home show, and we had a tv but the only channel the dig tuner didn't get was NBC. Caught most of the 4th quarter, but missed half-time. Just as well for me...I just haven't been really impressed with the acts since U2 and Phil Collins before that. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | Lost in the details: All previous halftime shows for the last 16 years were lip synched to a recorded track. Look it up. Same for the National Anthems. The networks demand it to avoid glitches and forgotten words. Bruce demanded to do it live or not do it at all. Given all the things that could have gone wrong I think they (the band and the crew setting it up) did well.
Not gonna debate a personal preference, to each their own (Prince?). No secret I'm a big Springsteen fan. 17 people in the house all dancing and singing along to every word. Others feel completely different, that's OK.
In the grand scheme of things every one of these halftime shows is lame compared to a real concert. McCartneys lip synched SB show was laughable, yet his concert of that same year was the best damn thing I ever saw. Only purpose of the halftime "concerts" to to try and get you from turning off the TV an dgetting back to your real life. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | Let me clarify, what I mean by lip sync is that for the past shows the VOCALS is actually live, but the band is pre-recorded. Stones, Petty, Shania Twain, Collins, etc. all readily admit this. I mean, come one, doesn't the mix given a 5 minute setup sound just a little TOO good? That's why prince playing in the rain was a non-issue. Camera crew is instructed to not show certain angles (such as McCartneys hands on the piano keys, which would give away that he wasn't really playing).
Springsteen vocals AND THE BAND were all live. Yes the horns were overdone and Van Zandt's lead solo was nowhere to be heard. That's what live is.
My brother inlaw Steve is a producer at Radical Media in NY and has produced many of the TV promos for the halftime shows. That's where this info comes from. I wouldn't know shit about this on my own. |

OH! And at normal times, you could not Drag me to a Prince concert, but he was good at the SB.
Personally, I was scared that Bruce was gonna have heart attack Live on Stage.
He had trouble getting-back-up from the knee-drop in front of the mic stand, and he was running outta breath while he was singing.
But at least Bruce didn't have to share the stage with Britney or N'sync or Garth Brooks or...
whomever the latest flash-in-the-pan rapper is this week. |

When Fitz scored the go-ahead my first thought was "too much time left on the clock". It was all too familier to the '97 Rose Bowl. I sat right in the endzone and watched ASU go up with 1:51 left. The national championship was all ours baby. But too much time on the clock and a too tired defense. 90 seconds later Ohio State scores.
That's why I hate Columbus. Oh, Happy Birthday KK. |
