Location: Berkeley, CA | Maybe not your favorite. I've been puzzling lately over another of those "deserted island" things. Say you had to choose a box set of one artist to listen to for the next twenty years or more while you're on that island. No other music, except what you make yourself. You could have your favorite guitars and that one artists music on CD.
After much thought, my own choice, Johnny Cash, kinda surprised me. I love his music, and he is among my favorites, but not number one. I suspect it's because I could, after some practice, play (and sing) along with the man.
I'll assume your choice of instruments would include Ovations. ;)

....Johnny Cash would probably be second! The man can say volumes in a simple song....
....With an Ovation - Of course! :D |

I would take my changes and build a raft , after all , Steve Mcqueen did it in " Papillon " , and my choice of guitar would focus on which one paddles best... :)

I've tried to think of som others, though, and decided to stick with Jim. I've been listening to him and trying to learn his songs for almost 40 years now and I could easily use up 20 more trying to learn Maury's parts after I finished Jim's. |

Would depend entirely on whichever day you asked me.
I could listen to either of them forever. |

....Sailing , I am sailing... Well... You go ahead and build the raft, use it to get to the island, then you have to scuttle it. After you unload all your guitars. |

[/QB] I live next to Norway , where the grand -son of Thor Heyerdahl resides , He has build a raft , similar to the Kon -tiki , complete with cabin , sail and all , let`s see if I can borrow that one , then I`ll pick -up you and watch22 , and we`ll make for Big island , the natives there are a friendly bunch , I know their chief , he makes a fine " juice " , after a couple slurps yer git will play by itself , ..y`re Sure now ..??

The Miles Davis Quintet, 1965-68: The Complete Columbia Studio Recordings (Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Ron Carter, Wayne Shorter, Tony Williams)
Being a total McLaughlin freak, I'd have to also say that I've spent much time with his early stuff, solo and sideman: My Goal's Beyond, Extrapolation, Shakti, Mountain in the Clouds, Where Fortune Smiles, Bitches Brew, In a Silent Way, Super Nova, Jack Johnson, Tony Williams Emergency! etc. etc. |

but i'd take guitar and big book with scales, different rhythm patterns etc. |

Chords, then bass. Leave the lead for last 'cause those are easiest for me.
For guitar I'd take my 2080. Anything else would fall apart on that there island. And it is the most versataile and nuanced in my aresenal (other then the Brian Moore MIDI equipped stuff but you didn't say I could bring all the outboard gear). |
