Location: New York | Hello,
I just found your group today and thought that I need to be a member. I am an Ovation enthusiast. My first real guitar was an Ovation Celebrity that my girl friend (now my wife) bought for me on our 4th anniversary of going steady in '85. I still have that guitar and it has brought me many years of faithful service. Since then I have acquired another, newer, Celebrity with the epaulets as well as a Elite Special S868, with the natural top. I love this guitar and it has been my main "player" for the past 5 years.
What has me searching the Internet right now is I have been told of a great deal on a brand new Elite Custom C778 LX RTD. My son takes lessons at a music store. I mentioned to the manager that I might be interested in moving up to the next level of Ovation. He checked the inventory of the stores in the chain and found this LX in a different store. He said that it was special ordered and never picked up. It lists for 1999.99 but I was told that I could get it for 999.99 as they wanted to move it out. After much research on the web, I believe that this is truly a great opportunity. I would love to hear your opinions on this.
In order to buy this guitar, I am forced to sell my Elite Special. I paid about $600 for this guitar. It is in fantastic shape and plays beautifully. I am sure that you folks can appreciate what I am talking about. I have searched for another one for sale to see what they are asking for them, but the only ones I could find were in Australia and selling for 2999 Aussie Dollars. The current exchange rate puts this at about 2000 American dollars. Wow! I can't imagine that they are selling for that much money. I am thinking that if I am lucky I can sell it for about $500 in a classified or an auction. Does anyone happen to know approximately what these guitars might be worth?
I know that someone may ask me to post pictures. I will be happy to tomorrow, but I am unable to right now. It is 12:30 at night and I am about to go to bed.
Any ways, I am sure that this is a great site with many knowledgeable people that I will learn much from. I have been in a couple other groups, one for Bearded Dragons, and the other for V8 motorcycles. I found both to be great communities of folks with similar passions. Topics were both fun and stimulating. I look forward to spending some time here.

Yeah, Ovations are expensive in Oz, and everywhere else.
I have had this fantasy of taking USA Ovations overseas to finance a little trip.
As to selling an S868... To me, that is the same as an Elite. But it is kind of a down-market right now. Unless you are really patient. |

(Well it was when the Australian Dollar was worth something)
Oh, and welcome Hoss. |

As far as your question..I apologizze..can't help. My Ovation is a bit of an antique and I never looked for another. The people here can give you good advice so I'll leave that to them. Just wanted to say "Hello" and "Welcome"

I am surprised to see that of the responses to my thread so far approx half are from Australia. Cool.
That is to bad that you guys are getting extorted in order to enjoy your music.
Weaser is from Cicero. You may have eaten my cooking before. I own Romans Pizza. I used to have a shop on Route 11 across from Walmart and in the plaza next to the new Dunkin Donuts.
How much does it cost to ship to Australia? Should I consider listing it on Ebay.com.au ?
I would like it to sell quickly so that I can pay for the Elite Custom LX.
Now that I have decided to buy the LX, I am like a spoiled kid that can't wait to have it in his hands. Hard to concentrate on other things. It is always hovering in the back of my mind.

It's bad enough to suffer this 'affliction' alone but now you'll have to endure additional 'OFC peer pressure' for pics and reports! :D

But don't be surprised when you show up with the pizza boxes if someone says "the drummer is here". ;) |

HEY! I HAVE eaten your pizza! [Side note to everyone else - Hoss's shop is about two miles from my house.] And it was very good pizza too if I recall. You should have fun here - great resource if you're looking for information and lots of fun if you're not. Stick around and don't be shy! |

I am confused, it is also called ovation fan club, but has a different URL and I was required to get another membership. Well here is the link:

These pictures are of the Special Elite S868 that I plan to sell. I don't have any pictures of the Elite Custom C778LX just yet as it is in another state. But there are many pics of this model online. |

Back east, NOBODY but a tourist would lower themselves to eat there. Actually, Degiourno rising crust pizza from the grocery store is the only kind I buy now. I could make my own, but a conventional oven in the home doesn't get hot enough to do it right. Oh how I wish I could find SOMETHING good to eat here! |

No real deli's, no real ethnic food of any kind.
(Plus, nobody knows what 'grits' are... Or Real Bar-B-Q)
Their idea of good pizza out here is arguing over Round Table vs. Domino's.
[Quizno's vs. Subway, Panda Express vs. China Wok, Taco Bell vs. Taco Time,
Seattle's Best vs. Portland Coffee Company]
I miss Joe's Pizza off of Harvard Square. Joe was a nice guy proud of his little place.
NO HAWAIIAN PIZZA! (although I actually like Hawaiian pizza, Joe woulda been appalled!) |

Does anyone here on this board own a Elite Custom C778 LX? I would love to hear about it. You know, get me drooling on my keyboard kind of stuff. (Although, the bad stuff is equally important)
Hossman
P.S. My Hawaiian pizza has honey baked ham, pineapple, cherries, and a sprinkling of ground cloves. It was very popular. The ground cloves was my "secret ingredient". That drove people nuts. Everyone wants to be let in on a secret. lol |

Location: Chicago | Hey Hoss,
For what it's worth: I lived in the Syracuse Area for 15 years (78 - 93). Mostly south of you, Cortland way. I don't think I tasted pizza in Cicero but my faves were: Little Italy just off route 81 (Homer-Cortland), Villa Trinceri in Dryden and Napoli Pizza in Ithaca. All 'round beautiful country. I even did five years in a town no one has heard of out there: Groton! Just at the end of 222. I loved the drive from Ithaca (rt 13) to Route 20 out to Albany: in the fall it was simply glorious. I'm going to visit soon, I think: I wonder if the Braeloch and Glennloch inns are still standing in Casanovia? Or the Landmark inn a bit further east? |

Location: Cicero, NY | Greg, I didn't know you spent time in these parts! Yes, the BraeLoch and the GlenLoch Inns are both still running strong. There was a Landmark Inn right in downtown Syracuse - is that one you're referring to? If so, that one is long gone. I have friends in the Cortland (even GROTON!) areas too and the Ithaca area is still a gorgeous part of the country. We hit the wineries down that way annually. Skaneateles is a great part of town to stop in too. If you do head out this way, let me know if you have time for lunch! Or if you need any info on what's still standing or not, just let me know. |

Location: Chicago | Now THAT is cool! The Landmark (Tavern?) I was fond of was an ancient hexagonal stone thing that looked like a fort. It was in the area of Bouckville on Route 20, right about the place where the auctions would start. My stomping grounds over the years ranged from Richfield Springs (East) to Ithaca (West) to Binghamton (South) up to Syracuse where I taught for five years at the University (office in Crouse Hall). So in that "square" I feel at home! In Groton I lived for five years just around the corner from the Ben Conger Inn (on N. Parkway). Never stayed there but I'd like to. And yes, for sure, if I get out (pretty sure I will) I'll get in touch! |

I know where Groton is. I lived in Sidney and my mother in law still lives in Oneonta. My wife and i decided that winter in upstate New York sucks so we moved to Tennessee.
Hoss, we do love to talk about good food,(pizza), and good guitars. Not all of us like the same kind of pizza or the same model Ovation,(Some of us have even been seen playing all wood guitars).
We do agree that not all of us are right all the time, nor all of us are wrong. Just a different.
Any of you guys ever get to Drome Sound? |

Location: New York | Upstate New York definitely has its share of beauty. I am familiar with the areas you talk of and that is just brushing the surface. The adirondacks are awesome also. Route 20 is one of my favorite motorcycle rides. I have a Boss Hoss motorcycle that I get my kicks on during the summer months here. The Inns at Cazenovia are still there and this marks a great little run through the Chittenango falls on Route 13. Really scenic little trip. New York has quite a few lovely waterfalls. My son is attending Ithaca college, so I get to take a trip down there at least once a month. I will look for the Napoli pizza place you mentioned. My daughter may be attending S.U. in the fall. Waiting for her acceptance letter now. Now I have to go check out Dobro's links. :-) |

Location: Chicago | Thanks fellas! Yes the run on Rte 13 from Ithaca to Cazenovia ROCKS. You can even find a few little joints to eat along the way. I remember a small town there called Sheds. Funny! It was a while ago but even then my 1117 Legend was an "old" Ovation (1974). Still hangin' on to it! |

In the interest of full disclosure: 60% of everything you hear is my OFC buddy Jeff Burns ("NostrAdamas" member # 2805). We found each other right here. A few years ago I posted saying: "Anyone out there want to form a duo-trio?" I heard from Schroeder (UK) and some others but far from Chicago. Then Jeff chimed in from 7 miles away!
Still waiting on that Ovation endorsement deal:) |
