Number of posts? ,Time spent as a member regardless of posts? How many guitars one has/had? (OK TJ, your the prez!! LOL)How many get together's you've been to? Just curious what some of you think. |

I think I learned how to do the short link, but probably only tried it once and then forgot the next time. I haven't met any other of John's criteria.
I always thought a "newbie" correlated with "Junior Member", which went away at something like 25 posts. And for any other Newbies out there, remember that learning to play the guitar is way more important than learning to play on the computer. |

In that case all I have left is to tell the joke about the Democratic Priest from Illinois...
I did give myself a two week time-out from the OFC once. I ended up losing my fingerprints and found 9 new chords in the Key of "E"! |

Ouch, BTW, is there someplace here with instructions on how to post pics in your messages?

Location: Maine | At my age, I'm delighted to be called a newbie. Seriously though, I think that as it is with entering any new venture, going from newbie to veteran is a process, not an event. To get to veteran status, a newbie has to post. Posting is participating, and participating is essential on a board like this. Having said that, it wouldn't be a bad rule that said a newbie could not post for 30 days after joining. During that time, they are to lurk and study the features of the board, hence, posting photos,URL'S, etc. This would give the newbie time to decide if they wanted to stick around, or opt out. It is equally important to be able to offer up a lucid, and coherent post, but the veterans on this board should expect that the newbie will add a fair amount of trivial posts too (Again, guilty, and I haven't even had that many of them).
Unless encumbered by extreme circumstances, travel and participating in a gathering is essential too as far as I'm concerned. To achieve true veteran status, a newbie needs to be willing to connect in person with those he/she has been sharing with.
Buying a guitar from someone specific or getting suspended as a requirement, not so much.
Whatever else it is, I have learned very quickly that there are very good people on this board that have a wealth of knowledge and they are freely sharing that information. That, in my opinion, is not to be taken lightly. That kind of information is invaluable and could cost dearly with teachers, tuners and technicians!
There, I've just concluded a coherent and lucid post on this thread which I pray will move me a bit closer to be included as an old fart (which I am). |

Location: North Wales, UK. | I reckon all newbies (thats me!) should conduct a comprehensive initiative test to determin if the said person could qualify as 'Veteran' or 'VIP' status.
It's dead easy-peasey, the test being: Count the total number of fingers you have on both hands (the hand swap-over could be difficult). If you count up to 10 then you can consider yourself as Vet or VIP.
I myself sadly, failed the test as I could only count up to 8. |

New-Be or not New-be, that is the question. You start a gorgeous soliloquy, then neglect to finish it? Shame!
New-Be , or not New-Be --that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous OFC posters
Or to take arms against a sea of knockoffs and cheap imitations...
Ummmmmmmmm...can't remember the rest. |

And in opposing slag them?
To post: to sleep;
No more; and by a sleep to say we end
The heart-ache and the thousand AC shocks
That wiring is prone to, 'tis an O-bsession
Devoutly to be wish'd.
....and something about a bare bodkin and an undiscovered country....it just goes on and on until the intermission. AH, the intermission!
Cheap wine served fast.

Location: Newington, CT | Sooo...I figure that I am now posting my 10000001st message. In binary, that is. In octal, I'm a comparative newcomer at 101. In that pesky, silly decimal system all youse humanoids use, I'm at a measly 65 or so. It's even worse in Hex: 40. So I prefer binary, where I have you ALL beat by a country mile -- whether or NOT I've EVER posted pictures or anything else.
Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh...ok? |
