Do you find it easier to fret with normal strings as opposed to coated strings? I mean does it seem easier to you to get a solid note with more "traction" on the string?

Doesn't and shouldn't really matter.

I don't use coated strings, but I have tried D'Adario Chromes (a super smooth flat wound string) on my Hamer. They're so slippery they almost feel oily, and yes, it does take some getting used to.

Other than flat wounds for electrics, no, I don't notice a diff. That's not counting a longer life for the coated.

Much easier. Perhaps it's because i have been playing them so long?

I bought a guitar that came with nanowebs. They lasted a day before i ripped them off of there. I hated the slippery, can't get a grip feeling of them. I'll take string squeak any day over having my fingers fall off the strings. I have pretty deeply calloused finger tips that may attribute to it -- i don't know. Whatever the cause i will probably never put them on any of my guitars again.

I use flat wound strings on one of my electrics and i don't have any problems with them.

Makes no difference to me, in terms of fretting. Maybe, in terms of fretting I like the coated strings ever so slightly more, but
1)The coating decays in my sweat making it worse
2)The sound isn't as good, to my ears, as regular strings
3)The cost is a no go.

Of course, if given the strings for free, it's not a problem.

That is they way I kinda feel. I cannot seem to get the grip feel. It is as if I just put hand lotion on and tried to play. Thanks for the input all!

I think it's a matter of how you play...I move around the fretboard alot and like to slide around a little, so I like coated strings. Fingerpicking feels a little smoother too.
