Are there any concerts you are looking forward to this year?

I had a chance to go see Bela Fleck and the Africa Project on Saturday, but was bogged down in homework. I've never heard Bela's stuff, but heard that he does a good show.

My friends want to go to see the Elton John/Billy Joel concert that is coming to our area in July. When I told them that I didn't want to go, they thought it was weird. Nothing wrong with the two of them, I just am not into them enough to go to a concert. I ain't gonna pay over $50.00 for two people whose music I don't usually listen to.

I am sort of kicking myself in the butt for not going to see John Hammond Jr. last weekend. The place he was playing at was over an hour away from where I live, and I wasn't interested in driving there at night by myself.

I'd love to see James Taylor, but on his site the schedule only goes up to the end of May.

I may go to see some free concerts this year. Albany is good at providing some really good free concerts. If it's free, it's usually for me.

I haven't been to a concert since the Mid 80's.Free tickets to see Huey Lewis & the News.
I just won't pay $100.00 plus to hear/see bands anymore. Not that I don't want to, I just have other thing I would rather spend my money on.

Rich, I forgot that Jackson is coming to SPAC (Saratoga Performing Arts Center). He would probably be a good show, but I would want to get tickets in the ampitheater and not the lawn. The ampitheather is usually expensive though.

BT, I hear you on that. Concerts can get pretty expensive, especially if you have to pay for a babysitter.

The most money I've spent on a concert was $50.00 to see Olivia Newton John, and $5.00 of that went to breast cancer research. She did a great show.

I went to two relatively inexpensive shows last year: John Sebastian and David Grisman (32.50) and Don MacLean ($34.00). I am old enought to remember when those prices were considered expensive!

I would definitely see John Sebastian and David Grisman again, if they decide to tour again.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I got to see the totally amazing Martin Simpson for $20.00 last year.

I'm really into inexpensive concerts!

Yeah... When you've seen Jerry and the Dead and Clapton and the Airplane and ZZ Top and Van Halen and Toto and Cheech & Chong and Joan Baez and Pete Seeger for Free and got Paid free beer to see the Hooters (who were actually Good)...
The concept of paying to see some of the artists nowadays loses it's luster.

:D I did just pay $8 and 4 cans of food to see Savoy Brown (very good) and The Animals (who suct!).

In the last year I have missed more shows than I have seen. Got some family health things that alway seem to crop up any time there is something I really want to do - like Amelia. The Concerts I missed that really bummed me out were BB King with Buddy Guy, Return to Forever, Joe Satriani with Leslie West, Dream Theater, Nightwish, Doyle Dykes, Blue Oyster Cult, Trans Siberian Orchestra.

The only shows I actually remember seeing were Dropkick Murphy's - great show, and Megadeth - pretty good if you're a metal head. The highlight of that show was watching my son in the mosh pit. And Celtic Women, good show but should have been louder!

If Jeff Beck is touring this year, I'd love to see him. Last time he came through was on my wife's birthday and she's not a big JB fan. Don't know if they're touring but some of the ones I'd like to see are Sonny Landreth, Eric Johnson, Janiva Magness, Ronnie Earl, Jerry Douglas and all the ones I missed last year.

I really miss seeing live music!

Trying to get Grayson Capps to do a show in Gainesville. He'll be in Tallahasse and it's a short drive to here. Would also like to get Cliff here for a gig. Acoustic-rats might be a stretch. but they'd be good here, too.

I really don't go to concerts unless I know one of the acts. I saw 3 to 4 Concerts a week for 3 years.

I am going to see Sugarland at the Casino in May.
Get a picture taken with them.
I will be getting artist comp tickets.

Johnny Winter is gonna be at the Waterfront Blues Festival on July 3rd, with whomever shows-up.

Admission: $10 and some FOOD!
(Price went up... Food is still two cans, but the dollar is worth less)

Hey OMA the Doobie Bros are going to be at the Coure d'lane casino for free soon if that's close to you. Not sure about my spelling, or geography, but I do remember I went through Coure d'Lane on the way to Portland for the Winternational drag races about 20 years ago...

No kidding Joe... Year-before-last I went and saw Savoy Brown (and others) and a woman with me commented unhappily about the cans of food, so I gave her two of mine. I commented where are you gonna see Anybody for that price. I'll be going this year.

[I brought a bag of stuff, not just two cans. Ravioli and tuna and stuff you could eat raw!
Stuff that the foodbank could give to people on the street without a stove, y'know?]

Really couldn't justify seeing Lyle Lovett in Dublin last night (10th wedding anniversary and herself would not be a fan)

Too bad, sycamore. I've seen Lovett twice (once with the big band and once a stripped down acoustic show) and both were great shows. He was touring with John Hiatt not too long ago and I wanted to catch that one too but missed it. Great writer and performer.

Gordon Lightfoot @ Chautaqua Institute July 24. $37.

I saw him 3 years ago @ Massey Hall. His voice was shot then and it's worse now from what I see on Youtube. Also, his band of 35 years seemed like they'd been on autopilot for the last 25 years. Despite all that, he has written songs that I've been in love with for almost 40 years. One of these days he won't be around (he's 70), so I can travel 35 minutes to a 1,500 seat 150 year old venue to catch him one more time.

John, my brother had backstage passes last year to see Gordon. My brother told me that he did a good show and that Gordon was really nice.

He did write some great songs. I especially love the guitar work on "Carefree Highway" and "Sundown".

Having done numerous openings in years past, I have lost my taste for being in a crowded large venue listening to an act.

However, one of the acts I would actually exert myself to try and catch is Little Big Town. But only if it's an outdoor venue on a nice day and I can buy a beer and walk around while listening. I ain't sittin' planted in a chair for two hours to hear anyone.
