Location: Flahdaw | Does anyone know why more guitar manufacturers don't use a pinless bridge like Ovation does. Is it aesthetics, authenticity, what? They just make so much more sense? Other than Ovation, who uses one? |

| Tradition would be my guess - maybe originally to distinguish steel string from nylon string. Takamine is using them on some steel string models now. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | There are some technical reasons who some makers don't use pinless bridges. Granted, this may be in the "stove knitter" category, but technically speaking with a pin bridge the brake angle, and hence the string pressure on the saddle, is greater which "should" lead to better energy transfer to the guitars top and "may" lead to a better sounding guitar.
Most of the best sounding guitars I've ever heard have had pin bridges, but that could be coincidence. Textured topped adamas would be the exception.
The choice of bridge pin - FI, Walrus, Whale Penis, etc. also greatly influences the sound. The problem on a pinless bridge is that you don't have the luxury of going out and spending north of a hundie on fancy pins. |

I've used DOS since back when you had to put 5 1/2 inch floppy disks to run the operating system. I ain't about to change now.
Heck, i still use the command prompt for most of my file operations.
Why that darn picture is so big is a mystery to me. It's linked to my ning page.

Location: los angeles | OK, I did a search for "string tubes" and found something about "string tubes" in violin cases, something about puppets, etc.., etc., etc., nothing on guitars, no pix, no definitions. So maybe I just have to wait until my 100th post. Or maybe I'll carry with me something more to be ignorant about. :) Bob |

| The birth of String Tubes . Maybe I should put this in the FAQ?
When folks here say "do a search" they generally mean that you should use this site\'s specific search features (search link at the top), and not a general Internet search. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Welcome enders. I was fairly new when this string tube concept came up and I'm sure I bought into it for awhile. Then I met that StandingOvation guy and lost my ability to trust. I was convinced String Tubes were the OFC equivalent of a snipe hunt until the "Who's laughing now" thread came up. |

Location: los angeles | Thank you Mark! I was trying to figure out if this was some kind of hazing when I received gh1's first reply - but some of the replies came with a "straight face" at first, so I googled away. During that time, I could have put on a new set of strings using the video that OMA linked.

Location: Maine | re: Pinless bridge.. Didn't Ovation have more freedom w/ top bracing patterns by not having to have a bridge plate on the underside of the top? I always understood it that the lighter the bridge, the more responsive the top could be, hence why they chose walnut. .. TJR |
