LOW to HIGH ---
Owns a Celebrity, likes it very much.
Misses his old Applause.
Believes that Academy’s were a Great idea, and Love the sound.
--
--
Thinks Pinnacles and Korean Balladeers a junk even if they do have solid tops.
--
Plans on Never buying a TX or AX Korean Ovation.
Thinks that Kaman-Bars are trash. If it don’t have a TRC it ain’t an Ovation.
--
Got Mad when they saw an OP-Pro on a Celebrity.
Cried when they heard that they were putting Contour Bowls on Ultras.
--
--
If it don’t have a Slot-head and a badge on the back, it ain’t a Real Adamas.
-----------------------
Any other additions would be appreciated. |

I just sold an Ultra, which I loved had a great sound and neck just cause somebody said they weren't all that good, and I'm ruing the day. I loved that guitar! And that's what it's about.
So, OMA, where would I fall on the snob chart?

Anita Truss rod cover...
Anita, why would the opinion of someone you've never met persuade you to sell it? |

Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | Anita... My first Ovation was a Korean 4861 Balladeer that I overpaid for...
I sold it and bought a 1612 Beater Balladeer cuz it was American Made.
Dozens of guitars later I realize that the 4861 was a Nice little guitar.
Don't know if All 4861's are as nice, but that one was.
I kinda bought my 1860 to replace the Korean Balladeer.
But in the fogginess of my memory, the Korean Balladeer was better.
So Yeah... I've done that too.
[for the list - Would Never Buy an Import Ovation but owns three Takamine's] |

She sold a guitar she loved. If we all told you now the 08 was a piece of trash would you sell it? |

I believe they are the very best "starter guitars" on the market, and that people who start on a Celeb, will settle for nothing less than an Ovation when it is time to upgrade. (That is, IF they decide to upgrade. There are quite a few folks out there who love their Celebs enough to keep them, and there's nothing wrong with that.) |

An Old Balladeer is an Ovation.
A NEW 'AX' is in fact a re-named Ultra with a dove-tail neck-joint.
Likewise a NEW Elite AX or TX is also a re-named Ultra with Dove-Tail AND 'X' Bracing.
(Which is Not an Elite, cuz REAL Elite's have Quintad bracing)
Am I a snob yet?

The first one I bought was a Yamaha. Then someone showed me his Ovation Legend. Within a couple of months I had purchased my first Ovation, a Celebrity. I was a beginner; it was all I could afford; and I had no idea this slope was THAT slippery! |

| OK, now some of you are starting to sound like the stove knitters on some of the wood-box forums (Takamine Forum excluded), arguing when the best time is to harvest the Engleman spruce that only grows on certain hillsides in Bavaria, or whether fossilized whale penis is a better material for bridge pins than wooly mammoth ivory..
I've owned several "low-end" Ovations - 2 Celebs and a Matrix. No, they don't use the higher quality materials or arguably better construction techniques as SOME of the US-made models, but they're a helluva value. And if you play mostly plugged in you'd be hard pressed to hear the difference between a US-made and a Celeb of the same bowl depth and body style.
That said, I've sold off my lower-end Ovations and now have a pretty good selection of what are widely considered to be among the best guitars to ever come out of New Hartford. Why? Because to my ears the acoustic tone of the guitars I have is superior. That's not snobbery or Celeb-bashing, it's just the way it is.
If you're a relatively new player, or want a brand new guitar with warranty and don't have the $$ spend on a high-end O or A, or just like the variety of top woods and finishes available on Celebs that aren't available on US models, then by all means get a Celeb. I often tell people on this board who say they're looking into getting a Celeb to give a used O a shot. But in a GC or SA I always say something encouraging and positive about the Celebs when I see people playing them.
Play what speaks to you. Just play. |

You tell me what I am:
I came here in 2003 after buying a 2003 Celeb Collector, sent it back and bought a 1778LX sight-unseen from some lousy Salesman in NJ.
Now my wall looks like this:
I have made a lot of Friends, butchered several guitars and I am ecstatic because the Bathroom is finished and I have started to regain my Man Cave!!!

In the cases are a Martin 12 string, AJ's T-Bolt and another case is for a Viper Acoustic.
Also note the potential for more trouble.
Not a bathroom, just the storeroom. |

Geeks know a guitars provenance by the serial number.
Snobs would not form social bonds with the paid employees of their guitar maker,
then still socialize with those who only play in the shallow end of the infatuation. ;-)
Woody is one of those guys you always want on your team. In the war movies, he's the guy that builds the machine that gets everyone out of a trap with parts from an abandoned motorcycle, a washing machine, and the units busted radio. |

If you wouldn't but an 'aged' EC Blackie because it's just so-faux; you may be a guitar snob.
If you wouldn't own a guitar that was not made with a rare species of wood,
or cost less than $7000 because "they just sound cheap; you ARE a guitar snob. |

Anita, why would the opinion of someone you've never met persuade you to sell it? I was buying the 1861 recently and need more cash so I had to sell one of my guitars. That was the one I chose to sell after talking to people. I love the 1861 but wish I could have kept that one.

What came to mind as the antithesis of that statement was the scene in Goodbye Girl where Richard Dreyfess is upset at the lingerie hanging in the bathroom...
"No, more, panties on the railing!"
