Location: europe | i would like to buy a case cover for the brown old thermocase.
were those available only at the time ovation offered the brown thermocase, or did the sell it also in the 90s?
i was offered a case cover and the seller say it is not from the early 80s, he think it is about 8-10 years old. see the photos. i would like the have the old original one. so my question: is this one an old one? |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | Logo appears to be different, the early model fastens around the case handle (requiring use of the hard case handle), and I don't believe the early model had shoulder straps (at least I don't think mine does). |

Location: CT | Heres the 'case bag' from the '80s catalog. Someone had a few of these for sale a while back.
Anyway, if you need a bag to protect your case, why not a case to protect your bag.... that's protecting your case.. that's protecting your bag, thats protecting ..... |

| The printed advertisement from the www.ovationgallery.com website, is not for a case cover, but is rather for a padded "gig bag" that was offered during the early to mid 1970's. These 1970's gig bags were designed to carry the guitar like other gig bags, in lieu of a case.
There are several variations of the 1970's gig bags, which variate primarily with the material and color of the cloth interior, as well as the color of plastic used for the exterior (some are darker than others). Most, if not all, of the 1970's gig bags will not fit newer guitars with electronics, or Adamas guitars, which are thicker than Ovations. And, a deep bowl Ovation from the period hardly fits, as it is a very, very snug fit, and the string ends tend to tear the fabric.
The "case covers", on the other hand, which first appeared in the 1980 catalog pictured above, were designed, not as gig bags, but as actually covers for the Ovation cases. There were other manufacturers of high-end guitars, such as Gibson and Martin, that for many years offered case covers for their premium guitars, and Ovation evidently followed suit.
The case covers were only came in brown, and were available through sometime in the 1990's. I'm sure that there were different sizes of case covers sold, but I have seen many, and I've never seen one that would accomodate a full-sized Ovation deep bowl case. |

There is one size that fits the newer, early 80's (larger) browns because I have one. It is a bit snug but I attribute that to the fact that my old case is a bit warped.
I also have a couple of the smaller ones that fit great on the older browns and electric cases but aren't nearly big enough for the newer ones. |
