Features a rare Steve Ripley stereo system (thanks Paul Templeman)bought this one back in the late 80's. See it featured here on Vintage Guitar magazine:
http://www.vintageguitar.com/features/brands/details.asp?AID=3339

Can anyone suggest what this one (20-30 made!!)
might be worth?

Wow... I am surprised (and maybe not so much) that this is called a "GS-2" Ripley as it's definately a GTX Guitar (made in Japan etc..) not a GS-2. The stereo system is cool. I doubt many were made at all. This is the first I have ever seen. Unless someone knows otherwise, I would think the Ripley system was not installed at the Factory. But then again... anything is possible.

thanks for the reply Mr Ovation,
So... are you disputing the Vintage Guitar feature article? it clearly ID's this one as a GS2-R .

I think Mr. O is saying that it looks more like a Celebrity aka GTX than an Ultra GS . So the "GS" designation seems odd.

Nobody can tell you what it's worth since it's so uncommon. That doesn't always mean it's valuable. Put it up on eBay with good pictures and a reserve you can live with, and we'll all find out!

I think this one was bought off the bay about 6-8 months ago... preceding the article.

It was ID'd as a Ripley on E-bay though.

GS could be "Guitar Stereo"

Bit like Gibson SG "Solid Guitar"

Interesting guitar

Is it for sale?

That's it in a nutshell. It IS a GTX body and neck, that's pretty unmistakeable...down to the covers on the back, the TRC, the inlays, the headstock, etc etc etc... and I have seen "Ovation" on the Headstock too. In fact someone just emailed me a picture of a GTX with Celebrity on the headstock, and an Ovation neck plate. go figure...

It could very well have been called a GS-2... even though there was a GS2 that was a completely different guitar. Odd, but not impossible.. Can you say Ultra??

As far as disputing a magazine... it certainly wouldn't be the first time. Beal has a pretty good recall on this stuff, and even I have been known to make a mistake... I'm just say'n at this point, it's an odd model designation.

I actually own one. I bought it from my local music store after I walked in there and saw it and asked myself...wtf is this thing. Picked it up and fell in love. It's rare, it sounds great and I will never get rid of it but am always looking to get another.

Pixxelator, message me, we'll talk the glory of this guitar.
