Vice President Designzilla stated that he needs new pictures to choose from.
I know, I know.... "I've sent a ton of pictures before and none of them have ended up in the calendar".
There are a couple reasons why some pics cannot be used. Most often they do not have the resolution need for calendar size.
Steve... maybe you could chime in and describe what you are looking for. |

If you can sucessfully e-mail the photo (or post it here), chances are it ain't gonna' work for the calendar . . . |

Pictures should be taken at the absolute highest resolution that your camera supports
Guitars are tall and skinny when you shoot them straight on, remember that your photo needs to fit into a nearly square page area.
I know this one is a pain in the a$$, but give your photos descriptive names and then include a text file with your photos that says who you are, what model of guitar it is and if there is anything cool or special about it. I would really like to get some captions on everything this year. But the rule is - caption everything or caption nothing.
Take more pictures of your guitar than you need. Take full shots and detail shots.
Be as creative as you want - keep the pics guitar oriented, but use whatever props or settings you want. I think we're ruling out nudity...
That's all I can think of off the top of my head. I'll try to post a few example pics later.
Thanks!

I know this because the deadline is usually my reminder that I was going to take some picture while the weather was still good. So far, none of my pictures have made the calendar. Not because I'm a poor photographer, which I am, but because I've never sent any pictures in. This year will be different. Third time's the charm, right? |

As far as deadline, it would be great to get this wrapped up early this year, it would be nice for Brad to be able to send them out in November so everyone has one in plenty of time for the new year.
If we could get pictures submitted by the end of July, that would give plenty of time for production, as well as time go back and ask for more pictures if there aren't enough.
Mark, if you don't take 'em we can't use 'em! You have some great guitars, let's see some pics! |

Strategic refers to the "what and why" and tactical refers to the "how." |

The "how"? We don't care, as long as it happens... |

Again, the idea is that "hopefully" this will get some pics coming in without the threat of a deadline.
Then... Perhaps 'zilla can get the jump on some pages.
Hence... I can slack off on the obnoxious carnival barker routine.
Therefore... the calendar can be shipped sooner.
And as a result... I won't have to go nuts making sure they get to youz guys by Christmas.
So come on folks.... look at the pics from across the pond in the current calendar and get inspired!!! |

I'd love to get some nice Hi-res versions of some of this guitar porn you guys have been posting! |

Should we do any color correction or other edits before we send, or can the calendar committee take care of that? |

Well, a couple weeks ago we found ourselves in the market for a new camera. We just bought a nice Nikon coolpix with plenty enough mega-pixels just a year ago. Please don't ask why we were already in the market for a new one.
Okay... since you asked... The lovely and talented Mrs. Slipkid defied all odds and forces of nature and found a way to deep soak the camera in her cup of Pepsi. Can we move on??
There is a ton of camera geek speak I don't understand but if your in the market, check out something like this.... Sony DSC-H50
It's a low end SLR. Not that much more money than a high end mini-slim model.
It makes all the difference in the world. |

Don't feel bad. I've learned from hard experience that while they come out clean, tuners and cell phones and washing machines don't mix....... |

Brad, whatever you go with please remember 2 things:
1. The camera MUST have a flash shoe on top for an external flash
2. You keep enough $ in the budget to buy the flash that will be attached to above mentioned shoe
FWIW, I've always found Sony colors (Especially with the Zeiss lenses) to be a bit over saturated, especially the reds (A very bad thing with red blanket pics). Also, megapixels really mean squat unless your doing poster sized print photography. I'll sacrifice some megapixels for a good zoom any day. Many people don't believe it, but I do not own a true SLR. My 5700 has a fixed lens (with a flash shoe on top), though there are attachments for wide angle and extra zoom (telephoto)
Don't get sucked into the megapixel BS, and also, get something with a robust manual mode.
Here's what I use...
In contrast, here's dad with his portable setup, a medium format Mamiya with a 2 flash setup. Now here's the real stuff!
