Location: Utah | Several times I tried to express my frustrations and set up some ground rules or expectations of band participants. Things like practicing at home even just a little bit, showing up to rehearsal, and bringing your sheet music or tabs with with you to rehearsal. But management shut me down less than a sentence into the conversation each time.
If ya can't even get your concerns heard, they aren't going to get resolved. It feels right to have quit, despite how much I did enjoy playing in the band when the others took it seriously.
So now I have to find one or more musicians who are willing to work with me.
Wanted: Musicians to form a band to play a variety of rock/blues/acoustic music. I'm a middle aged guy with moderate talent, less than superb skills, odd hours, and desire mostly to play for fun even if there is no profit.

Location: Hot Springs, S.D. | When you can't find people to play with, maybe that means you need to start thinking about a solo act. This will make you work harder to improve your skills, and eventually if you find som folks to play with, you'll be that much better at what you do. Not to mention, if you get out there and start playing, you're more likely to have the right people hear you and ask you to join/form a band. |

Location: GA USA | I quit the band a while back too, frustrated that I didn't feel we prepared enough. Now I'm back as one of three rotating guitar guys, playing only once or twice a month, and it's much more enjoyable.
And since we're both talking about a church band, I also found time after quitting to teach kids guitar, and play for the children's choir too. If you want a great backup group, try a dozen elementary school kids. |

So far the only one I've found who enjoys playing the same stuff I can play is Karl in Germany. You think you have problems getting together! |

I'm being shut out & off by 1 member, won't even discuss it.So I sit here wondering if anyone will even show up to practice tommorrow?? (They car pool here). I've been told you're like a brother to me and I get this crap!?!? Too bad the distance is too far to UTAH! :~) |

Location: Hot Springs, S.D. | Bob, I would give you the same advice. While I have enjoyed the music you've done with the band, I KNOW you underestimate yourself. You're a lot better than you think you are, and if you practice solo stuff, you'll get even better. |

It's not about the band so much as the friendship that is being destroyed because of some petty ass crap I'm not aware of and the other member won't discuss. I've contacted this person 4 times this week, nothing!
Atleast grow up, talk it out like an Adult. If I'm wrong , I'm wrong, but I nor anyone else would Admit to doing something wrong they are not even aware of! I'm lost??? :confused: :confused:

Music, like tennis, is alot more fun when done with others.
Once again I'm reminded how lucky I am to have hooked-up up with someone with the same musical goals. Brian & I will look forward to playing at an open mic or party but neither of us have the urge (or talent) for a regular gig. We only play songs we want to play and try to make them sound as good a two guys with two guitars can.
I'm sure we compromise with eachother all the time. We've just never not to the point where we had to talk about it.
Lets see... at least 5 years now. Fiqure in vacations and holidays over that time. Add the 6... carry the 3.... I estimate we've have had well over 200 practices.
Geez... you'd think we'd be a hell-of-alot better by now. |

I can get by recording some things with multiple takes and lots of processing. But for live performance the best I can do is some backup vocals. My guitaring isn't good enough for solo instrumental performance.
And, I really like playing in a band.
I have three recordings in the works, if my 16 yr old is ever home long enough to stand in front of a mic to track vocals. Recording songs with her is fun, but I need more to keep me motivated and stretching.
Cliff sent me a link to a musician's help-wanted page, and I've got a lot of "friends" on MySpace. Something will turn up. |

Location: Hot Springs, S.D. | Maybe you could work up three or four songs as a solo and go to as many open mikes as you can find. You might find potential band members there. Or if you're lucky enough to have a music store nearby where they let people jam, you might find people there. |

Location: UK | Sorry to hear about your frustrations Flysig, been there and had many t-shirts.
It's never easy to find a band that gels really well, it took me 30 years to find four guys that love the music that i do, where there are no egos and we all just enjoy the music. We have been together now for over four years and we have become best friends. We play, socialise, treat the wags, have mini tours and play mostly for not a lot. But the buzz is amazing. Interesting that we met purely by accident at a mutual friends 40th birthday party. Three of us were there, got chatting and thought we could maybe play some music. one of us knew a drummer that had just left a band and another knew of a guitarist who had just left a band. What luck! We all five met up and hey presto, never looked back!

Location: ms | I was a band member for most of my life till the early 80s then we had a nasty breakup. I started playing backup for other bands and doing solo gigs. I found i like not being a "member" much better. I was lucky enough to play for Brandon Jane in the late 90s and we mostly did my stuff during that time. I`m still best friends with the guys from my old band and have been playing drums for the last couple of years with one of them. Life goes on... |

I did this and also got involved with local musical theater to find other musicians when I moved to a new area. This strategy lead me to several bands, openings for national acts and a showcase in Nashville. But all bands end. I now have two other people I gig with, and I gig solo. The best of both worlds. |

Location: Utica, NY | It's funny. This thread brought me a long way back. One of the first times it happened to me, I was young, 19 probably. We were a 4 piece, one guy left, what to do? Make it a three piece. A few years later, similar situation, what to do? This time we make it a duo and almost 15 years later it's still the best thing we did. A rocking, sequenced duo at that. Decisions are easy, travel arrangements as well and splitting the occasional bounty couldn't be easier. Full speed ahead! |

Location: Vernon CT | Well it happend. I didn't quit, but the the Band broke up due to petty crap that had nothing to do with playing music. Note to self "Don't get involved with narrow minded people who's out look on life is black or white, my way is the only way".
How would you like to hear everytime you work on a new song "I don't know what song your listening to,BUT, the one I'm listening to sounds like this"! This comes from a guy who say's he's tone deaf. I considered him a friend,looked past the narrow mindedness,but when it became too personal and not about the music, Singer quit,and I couldn't take it anymore. We've gone our seperate ways.
