Actually, I like this shape and the Plywood Proto plays and feels comfortable both sitting and standing.
My intention is to make Semi-hollows and some Solids.
What do you all think of the shape?

Down here it's illegal to 'fin' sharks!!!
I personally don't care for the design, but I'm an ol' fart...

At first look, it didn't appeal to me either, but I give you great credit for trying something that is truly unique. I'm afraid that you will now permanently have to live with "fin" jokes. (Didn't Jimmy Buffett have a "fin" guitar at one point?)
Maybe a different color than black on the outside would steer our thoughts away from fins? Blue or Red might look nice?
Is that a strap button at the bottom? Does that work ok in that position? It seems like the strap would have to wrap under the bottom and then up in an odd manner?
I think it has potential. but, IMHO you are not quite there yet…

Is it comfortable to play?
Do you think that you will like the balance once you use Real wood?
Could this become a trademark shape, like the Explorer, Warlock, Flying V, or Breadwinner?
Back to the real question... Is it comfortable and do You like it?
I could become an Original Licensed Woody design! :p

I don't know about using black for the burst.
I know there is a buyer out there somewhere in e-bay land.
And... especially after this last weekend... that trek thing really hurts. I mean... really.
p.s. - I'm gonna get me a copy of that!

Losov - It fits in a standard rectangular case.
AJ - Note taken.
Iffy - Give in to the Drum Maker and not the Baron...
Shape wise it really is comfortable. I tend to use my forearm to steer the guitar and keep my wrist near the bridge.

Why worry about the finish, burst or otherwise? Get the body shape right first.
Have you looked at http://www.elutherie.org ? There are lots of Breadwinner ripoffs there. Except they're ripoffs of the Klein. Klein ripped off the Breadwinner now people are copying him.

My only suggestion is that the treble string holes are a bit too close to the edge of the body. If you moved that edge a little further away it would help aesthetically (and possibly resonance-wise? I admittedly know zero about that aspect).
But very cool IMO. | |

Location: Copenhagen Denmark | Sure Woody , any time..hey , I`ve got an idea , lemme talk to Gregg fer a minute ..
Hey Gregg , I could imagine a classical player`s position , when seated , the strings would be very close to the thigh , when axe is slanted upwards , that could be rather comfortable , great for longtime playing , actually , that little gem might be just something for you , if Mike places the pu`s strategically , fer ex. , dividing the string according to octaves / notes ( usually bridge pu`s are centered around a 1/4 octave ), when employing a slanted bridge pu , centered at D / G strings , than E / A could be a tad sharp ( bringing out overtones ) , and B /E as well ( causing x-tra zing ) , does that make sense ?..
After all , you know all about 4th`s , 5th`s and the this and the that.., what dayathink ?..could it be done ?
I think that sunburst would be nice , as long as Mike does not follow the Gibson " blob " philosophy , I could imagine :
Following rim (going into center ), dark/ black , flowing into a light/dark red , going into blond , slightly stained.
Mike , let`s see if we can get this show on the road , I think it`s an interesting concept..

I don't like it. It seems like somebody made a custom guitar that looks like a shark fin as a novelty.
If it were more of a designed shape, it would seem more like signature guitar:
Have you seen the Eastwood Airline Town & Country ? It has this row of knobs above the pickups that makes me wonder how one would play it without messing up all the settings. But still, it looks cool to me. I'd really have liked to have drawn a row of knobs like that but I doubted the functionality, so I have some routed grooves to make the big chunk of wood at the top seem less meaningless. Something to parallel the neck, if even racing stripes.

Location: Copenhagen Denmark | I appreciate that " dip " above the PU `s , looks good , nice idea , but save from that ( and the sharp corners ) it is still akin to Mike`s design , and at any rate , them corners should be rounded .
As far as PU`s go , I refer to my previous ramblings .
I totally agree about yer observations about control placements , I had in mind to place them on upper bout , over fretboard , and perhaps , a stereo volume pot. mounted under fretboard / PUP , for fast access.
Them racing stripes look cool , but Mike may want to trim the body there , since the right arm is resting on it , but overall great input , it shows that Mike`s efforts are appreciated.. :)

That would be the Jim Messina Deacon - the loovely-est Ovation Solid I have ever seen.
I hope to post some modified sketches soon. The Black burst was just a quicky to add some dimension to the Plywood block.
Also to consider: Next time you pick up your Electric think about the parts that actually come in contact with your body and hands - then eliminate anyplace that is not "needed". What's left?

I have to see if I got my Soldering permit back from Numbfingers... I'll return your permit, but only if you ignore Vic's ideas and let me specify the pickups and electronics. :)
If it has cutouts for standard-sized pickups, then everyone can find something they like. Using a pickguard would allow any combination of controls. It would also give you the opportunity to make more wooden pickguards! Having a rear access panel for the electronics- maybe even a battery- would be nice.

As it is , using run of the mill P U`s... that can be done on nearly every electric , I would consider this to be a special edition guitar , with hand wound P U´s , in my opnion , a true electric has passive components , unless a piezo is being employed .
However , I do understand that yer old mates , and I`m not one to stand in between friends , so I`ll just drop out.

Location: Upper Left USA | Actually the shape will allow for any combination of pickups and types of amplification.
Once I adopt a concept shape I will be making a 5 string Bass, a 25" Scale 12 String, a 7 string, a Nylon strung, a Vic Shredder and a Tele like Blues Player.
Wood, finishes, hollow or solid, bridge styles, Trem/no Trem are all options for the platform.
In my local area I have TV Jones and a few other Pickup makers that I hope to draw on.

Look at all the models he wants to make! I'm dropping out too, it's too much responsibility! :)
Anyway, if the cutouts are standard shape, the pickups and electronics can be off-the-shelf, completely handmade, whatever.
Now about the brand name. I suggest "Big Woody".
