Location: SoCal | It's a personal preference thing. Do you want a cutaway? Which preamp? 1 7/8" neck vs. 2"? Deep, SSB or shallow? Gloss neck or satin finish?

I dunno, I guess I've probably owned most of those. Never got warmed up to the Ovation classical sound. The proverbial "great plugged in" syndrome. My pick would probably be a modern day 2773-LX due to 1) neck width, and 2) contour bowl. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | Yeah, the original had a "zing" to them. Almost like the later ones had way too much bracing or something.
Of course talent has a lot to do with it as well. I've played $5k-$7k real classicals and seems like they ALL sound mediocre in my hands.
Personal shout-out to the Tak TF132SC. For around 500 or so used these are really nice classicals both plugged and unplugged. I think Cliff and I had both used this model on some of the OFC-CD tunes. The cooltube combined with the nylon strings is great. I also very much like Moody's custom 1773LX. Very beautiful. |

Location: SoCal | PEZ, you never said whether you wanted to mostly plug in or play acoustically. If acoustically, there's a 1763 on the 'bay right now. It's priced a bit high, but it's the guitar you want.
If you're going to play a mixture of plugged in and acoustically, get a 1773LX. Pretty decent acoustic sound, great plugged in.
If you're going to go mostly with plugged in, get an older country artist.... |
