How here is the twist, the American Idol winner is bound to a recording and touring contract with A.I. for one year. The loser is only bound to one group tour, and can make his own deals for everything else. In many ways it's better to lose than to win. Due to his pending partnership with Queen, Adam informed A.I. that he would decline the winners title if he won it. So it's pretty obvious that to save face A.I. fixed the win for Kris. Sort of a win-win, wink-wink. Adam didn't look all that "crushed" when he lost, did he. And for good reason. |

Think how many man-hours are eaten up with people living their lives on computers and the internet. |

| LMAO stephent28!!! So true! TV is not a bad thing as long as it is done in moderation. Why people think reading books are so much better......it is personal preference. People have their own ideas of what is quality time and a waste of time. I am reminded by a quote from someone I can't remember and is a little off base but in regards to reading. It was stated, "Why should I read books and live life through that book on other peoples experiences, I choose not to read and live life and create my own experiences".
So true about that comment. There are not many books I wish to read if one qualifies that as quality time. I do like watching mindless tv after a hards day work dealing with child molestors; dopers; and people who inflict harm on others. It is my way of coping with the screwed up world we live. If it makes one feel better in regards to tv I do watch alot of educational tv. |

Some people are addicted, some people never touch the stuff, most people enjoy it in moderation. Watching TV at work can get you fired, watching TV while driving can kill others. People who used to be addicted to TV and have given it up are usually the most vocal about its ills. |

Location: Hot Springs, S.D. | Sorry, I didn't intend to insult anyone. I used to watch TV. Then I didn't have one for about a year. When I was at a friend's house one evening, they had the TV on, and I was shocked at how INSULTING it was - not just the commercials either. I swear, if you stay away from it for even a few months, you will find the same thing.
It is true that a lot of us have other ways to waste time. The internet is probably the worst. Just like TV, it can be a waste of time, or educational. As for books though, with VERY few exceptions, just about everyone agrees that "The book is better than the movie". In a movie or a TV show, what is in the characters' heads can only be shown through dialog, and most often that doesn't work. The philosophy behind the story cannot be shown as well, if at all. Of course there are books that are strictly for entertainment, and I agree it is easy to "waste time" with them, but reading Jane Austen, John Steinbeck, and a host of other great authors is never a waste of time.
All that being said, I believe if you enjoy what you are doing, whether it be reading, surfing the net, watching TV, or playing guitar, you are not wasting time - you are enjoying yourself, and in a world with so much strife, any time you can enjoy yourself, that is a good thing. |

I'm the 0.1% of the population that has not see a single starwars, startrek, indianajones, 007, whatever ... People talk about these "did you see so and so in blah blah.." and I have no idea what they are talking about. Yet I own every "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" and "Little Britian" DVD set. |

I agree, Allison, except that not everything done in a video format started life as a book. There is some very well written/produced/performed material in tv land that you won't find on paper.
My wife and I watch tv, but very little live tv (ok, fine, I like to watch the food network - Alton Brown can be very entertaining). If there's a show I like, I'll wait until the season is over, then, um, 'obtain' the entire season and watch it at my own pace with no commercials. We use NetFlix for movies, it's cheap and if I start a movie and don't like it I just send it back.
Personally, I still find the fact that I can own my own copy of movies that I either saw 10 times at the theatre or was delighted to find in the Saturday afternoon tv listings as a kid very very cool.
Sure there's crap on tv. There's crap in movies, books, the internet, newspapers, radio, music, pretty much everything we encounter on this planet. There's bad - and there's good. It is possible to tune out the bad and focus on the good, if you have just a little bit of will power.
And yes, John, I do like to be entertained, whether it's by watching tv, watching my granddaughter play, reading a book, playing my geetar at church... It's called finding joy in things. |

| CS...........I don't think you insulted anyone but I can only speak for me. You surely did not insult me. I just like mindless tv sometimes to relieve day to day job pressure of seeing children that were murdered by parents; teenage girls prostituted out by their mother due to a drug addiction; or what have you.
I do get away to that special place and watch Mr. Roger's every so often and go to Make Believe Land! Heck, I stay in make believe land who am I kidding....LOL!
I do prefer the movie over reading but I am a visual person. There are alot of folks like me that are visual. In fact most men are that way. The only book I ever saw fit to read cover to cover is the Bible. Other than that most are a waste of my time but that is for me and in no way means one that likes to read is wasting their time.
And yes, I read Playboy for the articles and not the pictures......once again, who am I kidding! LMAO! |

Well said Wabbit.
There is soooo much out there to choose from that you don't have to watch anything that you don't absolutely enjoy.
Do the DVR thing for convience and to avoid commercials. Pick & choose. If your spouse really likes something, find enough interest to watch it together.
Learn a little, think a little, laugh a little, cry a little.
Anyone else watching AMC's Breaking Bad? |

Excellent storyline and the way they relate the various "facial expressions" to todays current crop of politicians and famous people is priceless. |

Best episode ever - Season 6 "Bible Fruit"
Notice the end credits? Master Shake is a Gibson endorsee. |

It takes me two hours to watch "60 Minutes", I have to wear my glasses to watch "20/20". |

I can understand why people want to just "turn off" as it were but books allow you to experience some of the greatest minds in history and to benefit from same. |
