Which strings or combination of strings do you use give you nice warm bass tones and shimmering high tones for fingerstyle?

It's not like no one else was thinking it,
Besides nobody here has a very strong opinion on strings, right?

Sorry. I was waiting for him to say he'd never heard of that brand and ask where to buy them.

I was being (somewhat) facetious in trying to point out that some people can't/won't appreciate a helpful suggestion like "search the archives" and will instead take offense that you didn't hand them everything (and more) they asked wrapped up with a pretty bow.

Sorry ... I just gotta ask. Which guitar? It may just be my bad ears, but different guitars yield different results, so I try to match strings to guitars to get the sound I want.

G8r, I understood, but was appologizing to everyone in general. Second time today. I must be grumpy because my new guitar didn't come today.

Just to ratchet all this down a bit:

Guitar Slinger, check the FAQ and see if you can find your answer. If not, come on back...

Hey, I'm more guilty than Alison in that I didn't even provide a 'direction'.

I'll just say that I exercised my 'grumpy ol' fart option'... And with no reason, in that I did receive my new Food Saver V3825 vacuum machine this PM.

Iffy, put it to good use and send me some seafood!

Tim, that did cheer me up. And Jerry does remember you. I had to describe the long hair, even though I will always think of you with the jiffy pop hat. :D

I neglected to post the guitar I was referring to which is the Ovation 2778 LX. I didn't think to look in the archives. I became a member last year at this time and I haven't been online until now. in essence. "I lost my way." Thanks!

Depends on the guitar, never had a 2778 but I would stick on my standard set D'Addario EJ26, then depending on the tonal characteristics and feel would try a heavier set like the EJ16 or even a lighter set, perhaps use a combo set like the EJ26 for the bottom 4 and use a slightly heavier gauge on the B and E.

I also use Elixir nanowebs on brighter sounding guitars, like the 07C. Haven't really found the right string for the 06C yet but I think the bronze strings aren't quite right.

The 1680 I have D'Addario EJ15s.

Experiment! And use your ears.

One string I don't see a lot of comments on is the Optima Gold. Anyone have experience or opinions on these?

Thanks

I have them on a couple of guitars (OFC and Tak EF75) and I like them. They ring real well and look nice too. But they are pricey.

I'm with bobbo. I like 80/20 bronze on a couple of my guitars and D'Addario Phosphor Bronze on others.

Just curious Capo Guy, which guitars do you like 80/20's on?
