I've had my 1112-1 in it's case for the better part of the last 9 months, only taking it out maybe 2-3 time to play for a total of 1 hour and once every 7-10 day openning the case to refill the sound hole humidifier. I took it out about 8 days ago, played it for 10 mins, then the G string snaps??? I never break strings!?! I decided that since the strings themselves were about 11 months old I'd change all of them instead of 1.
Ive been playing the guitar everyday since for an avarage of 1 1/2hours/day and I swear this guitar sounds better every day. Its allready 33 yrs old.I can't imagine the top is openning up more in 8 days. Anyone have an answer for me as to why this appears to be happening, tone wise???

Could be the strings. I know you prefer Elixers, and they don't have that really bright sound that some of us prefer. :D Maybe they are "breaking in" to the point where you like their sound better. Or, it could be that after not playing so much lately and now playing a lot, your playing itself has improved!

(Or wait a minute - did you put on those SIT's I sent you instead? That would explain everything!)

I read somewhere that even well-worn guitars can "go to sleep" if not regularly played. Then, once back in the rotation, they wake up quickly.

I like this explaination!!! :)

Alison, To My ear, the Elixir Nanos sound great from the time I put them and for atleast 4-5 weeks of solid playing, but never "break in" and sound better as time goes on. Everyone is different.

Thank you all for your "thoughts"

Yeah, the difference between a Flashback, a Memoir and Night Sweats has become a very fine line...

It's funny that it was the g-string (and no not because saying g-string is funny). As I was doing a little research on the Elixir Nano's a common complaint was that the G-string was consistantly the weak link in the group. Not sure why or how old the issue was but if the were Elixirs perhaps that's a reason.

G strings are supposed to be wound but in doing so they have the tightest bend.

The last 2 times I put Elixers on my Matrix 12 string, the G"s both broke before being tuned to pitch. I e-mailed the mfg and never got an an answer. I;ve switched back to Earthwood Lights for the 12 and have never had a problem...

Looks like their QC is pretty bad

Elixir did have a quality control issue some months back involving string breakage and other stuff. Giutar Center even stopped stocking/ selling the brand for awhile. But they supposedly have gotten all that resolved.
I just had a B string snap on me a couple days ago and get me good on the back of my right hand. First time I've ever had a problem with an elixir string, but I'll still buy them cause I like 'em. Guess I've got tin ears.

Same thing for me with (dare I say it?) a whip in the palm of my right hand and a naty prick in the back of the hand that drew blood. And that was the Elixr's 'G' string.
