Location: PA | I play a Larrivee's acoustic and an Fender Thinline Tele and at a gig I played an Ovation CC059 and I wowed myself. Tell me about Ovations, please.

| Welcome, skramer. Take your time and read some of the threads here. If there's a particular model you're interested in, do a search on it. There's a lot of information and opinions on just about any Ovation/Adamas ever made.
If you were wowed by a CC059, which is a laminate-top low-end Korean-made guitar, and most here would consider it inferior to the better US-made solid-top models, you're in for a real treat when you play one of the high-end Ovations or Adamas.
The problem is that most guitar stores don't stock the high-end Ovations and Adamas, since they can move the cheaper entry-level Korean ones easier, so it's hard to find the high-end ones to play. Your best bet would be to hook up with a gathering of fan club members, where you can usually hear and try out a wide variety of members' gits.
What kind of price range are you looking to spend? Do you plan on playing mostly unplugged, or will it be a gigging guitar and needing an onboard preamp? Are you opposed to buying a used, older model? Some of the older, deep bowl ones with the aged top-grade spruce tops are tone monsters.
Let us know what your needs are, and there are tons of folks here who'd be happy to give advice and make suggestions. |

Location: Vernon CT | Welcome Skamer!. G8r gives good advice. There are a lot of quality used Ovations out there at very good prices. I was big on all wood guitars and always thought that "O"'ssounded great plugged in but so so Unplugged. Boy did my opinion change when I had the opportunity to play an older deep bowl legend from the early 80's. I'm hooked now!!! Definitely try to play some if you can and use this group here to help answer your questions. VERY knowledgable!!!! |

| I just noticed you're from PA. If you're in the Philly area you really should contact Al Pepiak, co-founder of this board, and an Ovation/Adamas dealer. He owns Lost Art Vintage just over the river in NJ, and has a large variety of Ovations and Adamas on hand that you can try out. He's a great person to deal with and can get you a very good price on anything you might want. Email him or call him at 856-933-0374. |

Oh well. I was just planning ahead for this August for the annual FlySig Family retreat, the 41st annual week at the beach in Stone Harbor NJ. If there's a rainy day it would be fun to take the girls of Rebekkah Goes Swimming up to play with some fancy guitars and bug Mr. Big. It would be fun for me, too, to play something other than what GC carries. |

Location: Utah | Capt, yes thanks for the CD! It isn't my style but the guitar work is excellent. Sara, aka Rebekkah, loves the CD.
The girls will be bringing their O's to the beach, but the town does not allow street performers to collect any money. I'm looking for an open mic or other possibly paying venue for them to play while we're there.
The new songs are cool, and I can't wait for the good mixes. "Scabs" is absolutely haunting musically and lyrically (is that a word?). I wish that they'd change the title to "Scars", but it's their song, not mine.
I suppose Mr. Big doesn't need a couple of excited teenage girls running around picking up all his good guitars. We'll have to find another victim music store to raid while we're there.
Are you the one who was collecting Word documents for song sheets? I've got a dozen or so to contribute if the project is still open. |
