Hi I posted before about my Ovation 1769 Al Di Meola model going back to the mother ship for repairs. It just came back with a new bowl/top assembly and its mint!

The strings seem very light. Anyone have suggestions as to what string gauge I should be using? I'm thinking maybe I put to much stress on the old body by using a higher gauge. I generally use Daddario EXPs which from 12 to 53

Thanks!

I just found this on the Ovation webpage FAQ section. Anyone have any comments?

What kinds of strings are used on Ovation Guitars?
We use D'Addario EXP16 (.012-.053) Phosphor Bronze strings on our guitars. Another string we like is the Adamas 1818 (.012-.053) Phosphor Bronze. Our 12-string models use D'Addario EXP38 (.010-.047). You can use whatever string suits your playing style. Heavier or lighter strings might require a truss rod adjustment.

D'Addario Pro Arte (EJ46) hard tension strings are used on USA-made Ovation nylon string guitars. We also like the Adamas 4444 or the Savarez Alliance high tension.

I called the factory about up to what gauge could be used , their reply was :

" MEDIUM is Okay , 13 - 57 is No problem "

Just for orientation only ..
