Just wondering if anyone has taken the plunge to 10s...?
Thanks!

Location: Tennessee | I like 10's on my EA68 Viper, but that doesn't really count I think. Same thing applies to my 1271 Viper. But that said, I think 10's are OK if you are primarily recording or playing plugged in and using the preamp to do so. But everything always is in the ear of the beholder ... so try them out and see what YOU think. I'd be interested to hear, and if you like them that's all that matters. But as Alison said, you'll (generally) lose some tone and volume in a strictly acoustic setting with the 10s. |

Location: South of most, North of few | I started out with 10's then went to 11's, then 12's then 13's on some guitars. I still use 11's on my 00 Martin and 10's on the 12 strings. It really depends on the guitar and how it feels and sounds. My parlor has 11's on it and sounds great. My CEO has 13's on it and sounds and plays angelical. |

Location: Utica, NY | The 1778LX that I had for a short time came with 12's and I immediately put EXP 10's on it. It played much more 'electric' like but IMO the sound quality really suffered. Not the depth, volume or quality of sound of the 12's.
I now have Elixir 12's on my 2077LX and they play very nice without the finger-wrecking 'tension' that I have experienced with other similarly gauged acoustic strings. I can't see myself needing 10's again. |

Location: Brighty in Blighty | I use 10s on my 1680. Tried 13s, 12s, and 11s - they just didn't seem right for it. Then tried 10s and something magical happended.
One of these days I'll stick 9s on there, a la Adrian Legg!
11s on everything else. |

Location: Michigan | 10s on my 12...sort of, and 11s on my 1767. I tried 10s on the legend and it seemed a bit too hollow. 12s were good but really not any better to my ear than the 11s. Never tried 13s although I have been considering setting up tuned down a half step just because it is easier to sing for me. If I did that I might try 13s. I use 10s on my old Rokkommann because the bridge is pulling up a bit and the soundhole is also sinking. I actually tried 11s and did not like them as much so I guess every axe has its preference. |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | I used 10s for a while, but have been converting back to 12s for the past few years. This is one of the downsides of having more than a few guitars. Decide to change out the strings and you've got a year long project on your hands. |

Location: PA | I have an Ovation 1868 Elite which I bought new in 1989. I used 10's on it for years (I have no idea why) until I tried 11's, and I kicked myself for not switching sooner. It's largely a personal preference thing, but as a general rule I wouldn't put 10's on an acoustic. They don't have enough mass/tension to properly 'drive' the guitar. Just my opinion. I'll be trying 12's soon, which will be another adjustment for me.
My general rule of thumb is, play the heaviest strings you can tolerate. |

Location: Texas | String gauge is as personal as choosing the right guitar model for you.
Experiment and try as many gauges as you can and choose the one that feels the best and the one you like on your guitar.
And do not worry about what anyone else says, what matters is what you like.
Specially, who cares about the opinion of someone called Muddy Pie....................................................................................wimp!
