I have Ovation Legend 1777-LX (new).
I use acoustic amp Marshall as-100d and my sound (live and on records) is more acute and less deep. Can i get classic Ovation sound (as in the attached file) on my guitar or it is only possible on old guitars with old pickups and preamps ? What effects (rever, chorus) should i use ?
Thanks. |

I run my Ovation and Adamas guitars through my PA system which is a Carvin 880 w/15's...I also use a Genz Benz Shenandoah stereo 60 from time to time...
The recording you have referenced sounds like it has multiple guitars on it...it also sounds like it had a bit of compression, reverb, and perhaps a hint of chorus...all of these add to the sound when used in moderation. Your guitar should sound just fine if you balance it w/not too much bass and not too much treble...experiment for your best sound..
Best wishes
By the way, which part of Russia? My wife is from Belarus... |

Your new 1777LX is an excellent guitar and you should be able to get it to sound as good or better than any other guitar.
I am not familiar with your amplifier, but looking at the description online it should do a good job for you.
I find that the best sound for me through an amplifier requires the use of a compressor. I especially like the Aphex Punch Factory. It makes the guitar sound much more natural and even.
After that, it is a matter of making small adjustments to the EQ, and maybe adding just a small amount of reverb. |

Does anyone has LX-guitar records with sound similar to my file ?
What kind of soft compressor do you use ? |

The Aphex Punch Factory is a good compressor for acoustic guitars. It is very simple to use and has nice sound. |

Location: Chicago | Greetings Alyosha (from a fellow Russian): I really like the sound of the "Hey Joe" clip.... How was it recorded? It sounds VERY similar to John Abercrombie's Ovation sound on the acoustic tracks from "Timeless"... like "Love Song" or "Remembering" Do you know the record?

I don't know how was recorded "Hey, Joe", that is why i have created this topic =)
I have listened to "Timeless" and the sound there is a little different.
Please, listen to my Russian friend's short demo, not Ovation but acoustic, Caucasian motives =)

Location: Chicago | Nice! One of my all-time favorite Ovation Recorded Sounds is Al Dimeola on INDIGO from "The Rite of Strings" studio CD.
I also think McLaughlin's "My Goal's Beyond", side 2 is fantastic: pure acoustic (no need for cheesy chorus or synth!) |

Location: Chicago | Have you tried "acoustic" amps? Fishman, Fender, Genz-Benz etc. A personal favorite is the Bose L1 PAS that we've been gigging with for a few years. You might even try combining pickup with a mic for recording. |
