Since the "'09 Get-together..." thread got hijacked by an OFC marriage inventory, I thought I'd take it a step further, and ask for a "Kid Inventory."

Me? Two kids. 14- and eight-years old. Diana (14) and Alexander (Alex, 8).

Many of you met them at the "OFC Get-together in NJ - 2009" (whose thread got hijacked by an unfortunate OFC marriage inventory...did I already mention that?) this past weekend.

Who and how many up-and-coming OFC'lings are out there?

And what should they be called? OFC'lings? OFCpups? OFC'ettes? (OFC'ettes, could be pronounced like: "offsets" -- might work.)

So, I vote for "OFC'ettes" pr. "offsets."

I have three - only one of which is an OFC'ette. Nicky is 12.

You should probably include Grand kids in this as well to accommodate the more well-seasoned members ;)

One - She's an OFC'ette/wannabe drummer that wants to marry a guitar player. Tanis is 17 going on 28 or 8, I can never tell which!

One, 11 yr old tweenager. Thinks he knows it all of course. Doesn't have the patience to learn guitar, but loves to bang on the drums. Wouldn't trade him for the world.

Five. By the same woman. We finally figured out what was causing it. And we've both lived to tell about it.

Number One's a doc who's married to an FBI agent. Our second One is an advertising queen. The next one is one of the few and the proud ... but also a very talented singer/songwriter. Go listen to The Hardest Things on my ning page. He got a record deal out of that one. Number Four is an OFC'r. Been to several OFC events. Played on OFC Member's Night Out #1. Also #3. Has an iDea guitar and made a guest appearance in a recent LostArtVintage newsletter. Also learned the mandolin. Listen to him on Nowhere Man and Wagon Wheel on my ning page. Our baby is 17 and puts up with our music but doesn't play ... but he does play quarterback as well as anybody within a couple of hundred of miles.

2 girls with 3 summa cum laudes between them. Thought I'd never get rid of them, but miss them already. Both started guitar after leaving for college (I didn't play much when they were growing up.) Both have Ovations from me, although the oldest is a radical and bought her own Ibanez without consulting me. She lives with a drummer. I just remembered that the other one's boyfriend borrowed my Balladeer.

I like that, "well seasoned". This 'well seasoned' member has only 1, a 26 yr old daughter living in Fort Walton Beach, Fla. with my 2yr beautiful granddaughter.
I had 1 because my brother had 6 boys with his wife, I'd go over his house and any desire for more was...well...I love any desire. :D

In the past we've called 'em UTEs.

Three grown married daughters, five G-babies (4 years through 10 months) and all within three miles!

Frankly I admire anyone who brings a child into this world in this day and age on purpose. Ya gots bigger stones than I.

I have a son and while it was interesting to help bring him into the world and spend the first few weeks with him, I am also glad that I was not the one who raised him from that time forward. I met him again about 20 years later and we keep in touch, but that's about it. He has a son now as well and is doing everything in his power to be a part of his life. That gene obviously skipped a generation.

Lisa and I periodically let ourselves be exposed to friends kids.... best birth control there is.

Nothing against kids... I guess I was one once... just never got the "urge" to make any on purpose.

They can be the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, no doubt about it. There are too many influences that parents can't control, so we shouldn't really take all the blame for the failures or the credit for the successes. After our baby delivered her college valedictorian address last month (blatant brag), I was asked many times about the credit for her success. I had to admit that I wish I knew.

Never had any, never wanted any. Got a bunch of students, and two of them (Jarrett and Gracie) have adopted me. They call me Mom, but if they ever have kids, they'd better not call me Grandma! :D

Three.

The eldest daughter Amie is 20 and has just switched her major from Art History to Pediatric Physical Therapy. She's a very good flutist (floutist?) and has been taking guitar lessons for a year that she pays for herself. She bought herself a 2078T last summer.

Second is Sara, who turns 17 in a couple of weeks. You've seen her pictures here on occasion. She plays a 1778T Red Flame, and sings and also plays keyboard. She'll be a senior in HS next year.

Third is Rob, 13, who is a very excellent violinist and a learner on mandolin. He is a very good composer, too. You can hear several of his classical compositions on our myspace, link below. "Double Black Diamond", "Chase Through the Museum", "Night in the Forest", and "Dog's View of a Walk".

No grandkids yet. But Amie is a nanny to a 19 month old, and you can see it in her eyes that she wants kids of her own.

My daughter Becky is 26 and a middle school science teacher. She can play piano, flute, sax, and clarinet. While in college she learned to play guitar and is pretty good at it. She has a djembe too and is a wonderful singer.

My sons, Chris and Adam, are 22 and 17, and will be seniors in their respective college and high schools. Both are drummers. Chris dabbles with guitar and has a theremin too.

2...one and engineering student and the other a graduate student (MFA). Both are great kids and for the most part home for the summer. The boy took up guitar at winter break and already is making great progress. I have to grin as I watch him. He can't walk by the guitar without picking it up. Fun stuff.
Just 2 more years and the college bills will be a thing of the past.

I have a 15 yr old boy. Finished his first year of High school. Got A's & B's in half his classes and D's & F's in the other half, go figure!? He will be taking 2 summer school classes in July, BUT, claims he has learned his lesson and if the last Half of his 3rd trimester is any indication, He has. The next 3 years will be an interesting journey!!

College bills, maybe, but then there's all those stinking real life expenses that some of our adult kids can't seem to keep under control.

Both of mine are recently graduated, thank goodness. They were both in a "not cheap" private university at the same time. Yeah, THAT was fun.

The nice thing was that we agreed that they would have to "finance" half the bill for themselves. Daddy was the bank. So now I actually get monthly checks from each of them for the next 10 years. Just hoping I live long enough to get it all back.

Me, 3 grown, Dusty 31, Katherine 26, and Glenn Jr 23....all gone and 4 grands, 2 grandsons from Katherine and hubby who were/are USAF pilot(6in and done and raising the boys now)/navy( currently deployed) respectively.. Kat was the #1 ROTC cadet for the entire state in her grad year prior to her going to Embry and AF.

and another 2 grandsons from Dustin and his wife and they are in Ohio...

Junior's just a surf-bum kinda kid, plays a MOB 47... and really still hasn't decided what's up yet... He's still young and dumb and...now... I wasn't any better at his age... kinda living a drummer's life buskin off various girlfriends and their pads. has been bartending, working land surveying crews and general laborer lately...his current girlfriend is on one of the Roller Derby Squads here in FL, The Molly Rogers.. they've been together over a year... the women's derby circuit around here is pretty brutal... she's a tiny little thing maybe 90 pounds soaking wet... but keeps junior in line, and is one of the more intense battlers/brawlers on the circuit, and he's 6'5 and 195...

Char has 4 grown and gone and 1 grand, Jessica 32 engaged, Ryan 27 and wife Megan, Kelly 24, Shannon 21.... Ryan and wife are in GA, he's a Kitchen manager for Logan's and getting getting his IT/CS degree, and Megan's a Pharmacist..

The other 3 girls and grand-daughter Lydia-Lynne are all local and we see them regularly..

So 7 between us, with 5 grands... and we're still kickin... and earned every gray hair and tic...
some very interesting days..

and I'm not even 50 yet..

Glenn

3: a 27 year old stay at home mom to my 4 grandchildren ages 6,4,4, and 3. They live in the next town and I get to see them all the time. She is an excellent singer. A 24 year old daughter who just graduated summa cum laude from U. Conn with a dual major in robotics and puppetry. She got married in Jan 09 and lives about 30 minutes away. She is a piano player and singer. She has been building puppets and working for a chain arts and crafts store. A 21 year old son. He is a mechanic and plays guitar (heavy metal head banging stuff). He lives about 25 minutes away. I am blessed to have them all so close and to see them all very frequently.
God bless,
Steve
