White?
Burst? |

| +1 Johnny. Bursts aren't necessarily a dime a dozen, but much more usual than the pearly whites. |

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | TJ, as much as I like white pearl (and you know how much that is) I do know that the factory does not have that particular paint anymore...when they did the repair on mine, they tried to reproduce it but were not successful...fortunatly they discovered a 1758-6p top and bowl sitting on a shelf in a box left over from 1991...JB told me it was the last of the series and asked if I wanted it as the original was in bad shape from the two tries to refinish...I said yes of course and am very pleased...but since I know how much you liked the one you bought from me (and sold  ...who wudda thunk it... :D ;) ) why not go with the burst? I am sure it would be killer... |

Location: Right now? | Anyone have photos of a 1758 in the white pearl finish? I'd love to see it. I have a 1989 Japanese Pinnacle in white with cream binding ... it was one of my first Ovations ... it has a rosewood neck and nickle Schaller tuners. I wouldn't call it 'pearl'. Hmmm... I wonder if it's worth anything? It has a solid spruce top; I don't know anything about Japanese Ovations ... is it a piece of junk or what? I have to tell you, it has a very sweet, beautiful tone, whatever the case! Anyway, sorry to stray off subject ... TJ, if what Mikey says is true, then perhaps you should go with the burst ... I mean, you can't really make a bad choice. Pearl white would be PURTY though. I'll be interested in learning which finish you choose! ;) |

Most of the album is on my ning site...
BTW: the album on the ning site for the guitar is:
1758-6p
If I could only spell and proofread.... |

Anyway, I'm still on the fence about this. I was considering a burst more like my parlor. Kind of amber in the center to a dark brown on the outside..

Keep it white. Like others have said, it's not as common as the burst. Either way you'll enjoy it again,.... for the 4th time! :) (This is you 4th 1758, right?) |

And no, my reference wasn't because of any association with Ms Etheridge. I just think the abalone epis on a white guitar are a bit too too. YMMV. |

And Walnut eppis would not only make it nicely distinctive, but guarantee you'll get your money back out of it from Iffy when you find that pristine burst 1758 down the road. ;) |

But honestly, either will do. If you wanna blend in go with the burst. If wanna stand out go with the pearl. |

Now, since Andrew brought it up, should I go with a solid eppi (NOT pearl) but maybe koa, teak, walnut, spalted maple.... or just the originals? I kind of like the multi wood originals, but may be interested in another idea. |

Have you been told by John that they can't reproduce the finish? That would make the burst the easy choice.
But... if they could do the pearl finish and inlay the abalone epis...
Make sure you're wearing your Liberace tux. |

Location: South of most, North of few | John said they do have the white pearl, it will just look much whiter due to no age yellowing. That's fine with me. I'm down to walnut or original eppies. I'll ask about inlay on them, that would be very cool. Don't know if they can do them with a solid painted top or not. Got an email in to him now about that. |
