Location: Bradenton, FL | Hello all, This is my first post. I've only been playing for about a year. I have an Ibanez AE18 acoustic/electric and just today I picked up a used Ovation Celebrity CC11 acoustic. I've always liked Ovations and couldn't pass up the deal. The original owner bought the guitar several years ago with the intentions of learning to play. He used it a handful of times and it has sat in its hard case ever since. It still has the oringinal strings on it (which I will change tomorrow).
I do have a question though. According to Ovation and this site, my CC11 was discontinued in 1995. Yet according to Ovations website, my guitar was made in 1997. Can anyone shed some light for me?? Serial# 521953.
Thanks, Sport |

Welcome to the site. |

2ifbyc, I live in East Bradenton (SR64 & Lakewood Ranch Blvd). That's really cool that a couple members are so local to me. No worries if noone has the answer to my questions. The guitar might as well be brand new anyway. Can't wait to pick up new strings today!!! As you can imagine, several year old strings are not sounding very good. |

The S/N decoder on the Ovation website only applies to USA made Ovations. Since your CC11 was made overseas it is not relevant to your guitar.
BTW... I sold a CC11 a couple of years ago that was an absolute CANNON! Enjoy it. |

Location: closely held secret | Welcome, Sportrider! I'll assume you ride sport bikes - you'll find a few other riders here, though some of us ride what you might regard as sofas.
Colin is correct concerning the offshore serial#. And while the Ovation website is often missing models or might have the wrong picture, the serial number system is not "notoriously unreliable" - they simply do not keep track of guitars they don't build in CT.
Love the rosette on the Ibanez. |

I really didn't want to but I've had way too many close calls with driver that are oblivious to their surroundings. IMO, Florida has to be the most rider unfriendly state. |

I think a lot of us quit when we had kids, then got back on when they grew up. I quit for 30 years, then started again 4 years ago.
Try riding in the Nanny State of Oregon sometime... |

I did, and it not only provided a great opportunity for us to do someting together that he really loved (as did I), it taught him skills that better prepared him for the streets. Start small and work your way up. I'd sell his, give him mine, then I'd buy something bigger. It was a win-win. |

Location: Bradenton, FL | OK, so I've now spent a couple of days with my CC11 and really had a chance to go over her with a fine tooth comb, clean and condition the fret board and threw a set of Elixer Nanoweb Mediums (.13-.56) and played her for a good long time. One thing I noticed is that if I really strum hard, I'm better of using very thin picks as my heavier pics create a lot of buzz. It doesn't buzz at all if I play lightly with heavey picks. There are just some songs that I really dig into the guitar on (like Jack Johnson's upside down for example). I have smaller hands and the neck is thinner than my Ibanez AE18 which I really like!! However I would have to say that my Ibanez is still my number 1. I am happy with her though. I'd like to somehow have her be a little more twangy though. Kind of like the sound you get when you strum closer to the bridge. |
