rule one; the quality of the guitar you buy has nothing to do with how well you can play it
I think it was in the first hour of the Amelia Clinic. Matt demonstrated how important right hand technique could be. Plucking the string at anything less than a 90 degree angle results in a very noticable difference in the end result. I'd say that just that one little habit can cost you 20% in tone. Try it yourself. Right now. 45 degrees then 90. Go ahead. I'll wait.
.

.
See what I mean?
After years is years of playing that way it's hard to change. Almost like a righty trying to bat or golf like a lefty.
After that little life lesson I think I have to give up whatever little "stoveknitter" tendecies I had. I no longer feel qualified to talk about the finer points of tone and benefits of AAA grade tops over those plain old AA tops.

Very true... but with lousy technique the "Law Of Diminishing Returns" kicks in quickly and with a vengence.

Tho I can still say with complete confidence that the Estaban is a POS.

and I stink less on a quality guitar....

cause I feel better when I play it.....

and it is all about the feeling...

right?

better guitar means better feeling means more desire to practice means improved technique!

See....you knew I would get around to agreeing with you eventually!

Plus One---

I only play for myself, and I enjoy playing a better guitar.

But I will agree that a good player can sound better than me on $200 guitar as a $20,000 guitar.

Well, even if your technique sucks, if you play the same thing on different guitars, at some point you ought to be able to feel and hear good from not good. The more you play, the better you get at it. Just play 'em and enjoy 'em and don't worry about the other stuff.

this was left on one of my posts, and i agree with the comment,(although it seemed quite trite to me at the time) maybe it will not have anything to do with how you play it, but it will have to do with how it sounds, and plays to you. And right.....how much you enjoy it.

If you play shite (like me) isn't it better to do it with a quality guitar?
At least you look good
