Location: Brighty in Blighty | Had a session recording today using my new M-Audio Fast Track Ultra (8 in 8 out PC audio interface - great piece of kit) with the AKG C1000s and Rode NT1a mics.
The tune I was focusing on was St. Andrews (a slowish Scottish piece in dropped D).
Anyhow results with the 07 and 1680 were not great.
So out comes the Taylor (model W12C, walnut back and sides, AAA+++ spruce top) and WOW!!!!!!
I think it comes down to the old "right tool for the job" but then played my Legg pieces and some others and I have to say it responds so well and sounds just great.
Keep your eyes on the for sale section. |

"tool" as you put it. Everyones ear is different and to knock someones preference, well, just isn't right.
Glad the Taylor worked for you!! |

Location: south east Michigan | Oh I'll admit it alright. It was Davis' guitar and he had it set up real nice.
But that was at my first Amelia.
At the second Amelia I played that burst Collings.
I like it much better than the Taylor.
.
Nothing wrong with the right tool for the right job no matter what the brand.
I got nothin' but O's and I'm amazed how different they are to eachother.
The love affair has not ended. Play the Taylor exclusivly for 3 weeks, then pick up an O. You'll re-discover it all over again. |

I myself am hunting for a non-O` git. , admittedly , it is a JUMBO that I`m going for,....
A long ,long time ago , I posted a thread about the " lack " of Ovation Jumbo`s , indeed , I `ve been rather disappointed about the new O`models , they`re like .. the same .,. the same .. plus , much "black color " , over here , so many used black-colored git`s are for sale , for a cheap money ! fx. a pristine 3 yr. old J-40 "black" ..for several hundred USd less than the " blond " 5 yr. old version , it`s been for sale for over 2 yrs. by now ... coincidence ?.. or maybe a Trend .. perhaps Black-colored gits. are out of fashion , ..I hope that FMI will " take the bull by the horns " and , instead of just relying on the " bowl " for old hat novelty and leaning on the GUILD for Sound-quality ..
Too often do I see O/A gits. for sale , due to the owner having purchased a ( insert brand ) guitar , and ,.. pictures showing " pulled off bridges " causing splintered tops , do not help the O` cause ..., why , I`ve seen the Epaulets of a 3 mnts. ( three months ! ) old ADAMAS ,..LIFTING UP !! , ... the bonding had loosened , true , it was in Singapore , where Humidity reaches 85 % .. but still , there`s No Force being applied on them Epi`s , so if that happens , then what about the Bracing ?? When the Gent went to the shop , he was informed to " just glue it back on " , he tried , and the Epi broke , that`s one gent who will not buy another one , he`s a Pro , and has spread the word , ..
Horrible stories , YES , why do they apply to O / A gits. ??.... stopped Me from purchasing an A ..
I say ,..address the issues , expand the line .. or .. face the consequenses , .. come with that JUMBO .. stop dilly-dallying ,.. come with REAL Differences .., what would I ( and others ) do with gits. that are Alike , gimme what I want !!.. or I`ll spent my hard-earned cash ELSEWHERE !! ... the threat is REAL ..specially in view of Fine Gits. ( incl. Ovation license build ) produced in far-away lands , it is NOT enough for the Axe to have a plastic box , the novelty has worn-off ..
For that price , .. it has to be GOOD , REAL GOOD .., build with that Good Ol` Ovation " Magic " , first of all , TERRIFIC SOUND ( like my old ones ) and then look at " design " ..,should not be that difficult for a company that has proven to churn out AFFORDABLE High Quality instruments.
Vic
Now , Build me that Super-JUMBO with triple A grade Spruce Top , Hand selected by a guy who knows his wood , Gold sputtered tuners , P.U with BALANCED Matching Pre-Amp. , then , I WILL purchase , a " Natural " , AND a " Sun-Burst " .. Right Away !! .. if not , I shall go Elsewhere ... |

Do you know of any youtube clips or whatever for that song? I was wondering how it goes but couldn't find anything. I did happen to find this piece of nostalgia though..lol

Location: Round Rock, TX | Dweezil, I hear ya - kinda. For me it was Larrivee's. I have a 09 series Parlor and an 09 series L. I love 'em. The L, especially, has become my go-to acoustic.
BUT...
The other day someone on the Larrivee forum started a "I Hate Ovations" thread which got me to sit down and seriously play my O's again. As Brad pointed out, coming back to O's, after a while away, really let me appreciate their sound again. I still love the Larrivee's, but I love the O's, too.
I get the same way on my electrics. I play my favorite Strat and wonder why I own all these other guitars. Then I pull down my old Les Paul and wonder why it's been so long since I played this great guitar and the Strat gets to hang for awhile. Then I pick up the Soulmate... |

Today was the first time I had to sit down and really play the 97C. That one will NOT be going anywhere anytime soon ;)
As I said "I think it comes down to the old right tool for the job".
Will try and record the 97C today. |

If you are looking for the prettiest guitar you might pick X, if you want the most road worthy you might pick Y, best sounding could be Z. Somebody else picks them and they would probably come up with A, B and C. Pick them again next week and probably come up with three different ones again.
I say play what you want, think what you want, doesn't matter a god damn what any one else thinks or plays. There are people who look at my guitars and say "what in the hell was he thinking." Hey, screw 'em. Last I checked there was only one yardstick in my house ... and it belonged to me. |

I guess I have to agree, btw. |

I have not been disappointed with any old or new Adamas,Ovation, or Hamer that I have bought or traded for...I have been disappointed with some other brands. |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | When I get one of those hankerin' feelings to play something "strange"(maening other than O)I just schedule a day and drive to Elderly Instruments in Lansing. I'll sit there all day and play everything I want, from $1500-20,000. Then I go back and once again understand why I bought Ovations. It's kinda like going on one of those Vegas weekends and visiting a bordello. Then (hopefully) when you get back home you realize that your wife is the one you really want to be with all the time.(Oh by the way ... I haven't actually done the second one, just an example)) |
