What is your loudest Ovation-Adamas guitar?

Unplugged of course, :)

Mine is my Adamas II -7

Maybe you own other brands that are louder but that is another thread, let's stick with Ovations/Adamas only.

No Contest.

the 1969 1115 shiny 12 string w/winged bridge and large soundhole(transitional model) that just came home from mother, Char even yelled at me last night to turn down the amp and had the door shut at the other end of the house.... those shiny reissues must be awesome.

the guitar wasn't plugged in. and she wasn't bitchn' bout my skills... it's a monster cannon... :D and plugged in with the FD14 electronics and pickup, it sounds like a choir of angels. again, many thanks to John and Kim!!

Yeah Glenn, My Pacemaker ain't quite that old, but it is quite that Loud.

Took it over my buddy's house, and he asks "Why you play that thing so Loud?"

"'Scuze me! That's just the way it is, it don't need no plug-in... Try it!"

That first year 1117 Deluxe Balladeer/Legend thingy I just got.

What did someone here call it? "Hand-laid deep bowl cannon" or something like that?

Anyway, it's way louder than the LX or the Folklore

Gertrude (1111-4). (To be fair, the other five are shallow bowl, super shallow, and electrics, so the playing field isn't level.)

The ute 12 string is painfully loud. And that's with light guage strings.

1688 followed closely by the 1685 and 47RI...Actually, what Al said: any Adamas!

That said, my old Pacemakers were mighty loud too! So is my 1758...but the Adami rule in the volume category!

The loudest Adamas I ever heard was Beal's 2080 baritone in Matt Smith's hands with a cable installed for the low E string which was then tuned down to D, or possibly lower than that. This instrument looked like a guitar, but it no longer sounded like one.

The two operative words here are "cable" and "loudest": cable meaning a bass piano wire/string (seemed so anyway) and loudest meaning a bass sound wave @ demolition dimensions! I think Homeland Security may be looking into that one, lol!

On the Flea Market Music-ukulele forum someone acutally used a decible meter and tested several of his louder ukes. Ironically, the one he thought sounded loudest read lower on the decible meter than others.

I just realized that the two people that I drove to Stonge's house last May went missing and have just resurfaced. First Jason and then Fred. I guess my van will be empty on the next tour. Phil(Sleepy Eyes Mcgee), Johnny (Strumming12)haven't been around either. The only known survivors of my driving are The Wabbit and Weaser P.

I am very happy because this is what the ofc is all about,

Threads that invite all members to post about their guitars, ofcers that otherwise just read the posts but seldom participate.

Not everyone can attend the gatherings, and it is fun to read about the events and memories of the ones that can, but it is nice when there is a thread when you have everyone talk and share about their guitars.

So, Adamas models seem to be the loudest Os.

Who wants to do a count of all the loud models so far?

Thought this was just O's...we all know the superior technology of the textured top Adamas will have the quality of sound/voice while blowing anything else out!!

Emphasis on quality of voice because you can always beat on a guitar and make it loud...It is a quality instrument that can be played softly; or hard and loud while maintaining superior "voice".

And a few of us have either the 1688 Adamas I or the 1685 Adamas II 12-str or both...then, unless the competition is limited to 6-strings, the Adamas I/II 12-str will lead the pack.

Well said T ;)

Of course a 12 string would be louder, but I guess the question is about 6 string guitars.

if 12 stringers are disqualified, it certainly isn't my elite 2078T so it will have to be the 1537-4 when it arrives. i think the W597 i used to own is louder than this elite 2078T, acoustically speaking.

My OFC #2 is the loudest acoustic, but my Viper with Carvin pickups through 2 Marshall full stacks mic'd through the PA at the Blaisdell Arena in Hawaii is probably the loudest I ever got.

I finally got around to trying to "test" mine last night. The Ute seemed louder than the OFC. Of the woodtops, the 30th CL and Matrix were quite loud, but they were first and last in the test. I think the 30th CL has medium strings and all the others have lights.
So the definitive results of this test: I don't know.

I don't know about loud, but I did an interesting (and unintentional) study in sustain. All of my decent guitars are hanging in a walk-in display area with hard walls and wooden floor. A nice little reverb chamber. I was installing some wooden molding on the door threshold and my wife yells "American Idol is on TV". So I bang in the last nail, the guitars are all ringing like hell and I go watch TV. An hour of American Idol, a ham & cheese sandwich and half the local news report later and it was time for bed. I came back up to turn off the lights in the music room. Slothead #42 was still vibrating. Damn ....

I just made sure last night. I put my son in front of me and made him decide. I only have 3 Acoustic Os, so it was a short test.

The winner...

#2 was the 6774 Folklore

Last place was the 1778LX Elite

The SlotHeads ARE a study in perfectly & efficiently converting physical vibration into sound (& vice versa).

In our old GardenApartment, 54 used t'hang on the wall in the living room.
Whenever we watched a movie, I had to move the guitar into the bedroom, as the sympthetic vibrations (and their sustain) was quite distracting when you were trying t'watch a movie . . .

I still haven't checked but I've been playing the Super Legend Prototype (read 1537) lately and it's on about a volume par with the Tak 45.

I was talking to somebody on this board about how all the guitars ring when I sneeze. Maybe we should combine this thread with the snot blob thread.

You want sympathetic vibrations????

Be in a room with the Nationals on the wall when the dog barks. Cliff knows, he was there.

I would say the loudest I have is the 1688-8 #1000.
But I still haven't checked.
Keep in mind that loud and tone are closely related but not always the same. I think back to the side by sides that Debanjo-Steve and I did after AmeliaMatt and picked the Tak 45 as the best sounding and one that we would always choose first, even though it was not the loudest.
To Randy's point the Tak Bluegrassers are loud (and good too!). The 1537 family of guitars are good too. A straight acoustic Adamas will be right up there too

Interesting that last time I did a side by side with another player, the guitars that I thought were the loudest from the players position, were not the loudest from the listeners position 5 feet straight out in front.

They say that Ovations "project" very well and I guess that's true. I never liked the sound of a 1537 while playing it. Always sounded like it was choking on something. I kept looking inside to see of the dog hid my socks in there. But every time Moody stands 5 feet away with the 1537 and points GOMM at me I'm blown away.

We should have detachable ears on long goosenecks that we can position in any way we want.

That's what I felt/heard as well with the one I had restored... even before it went up for the refurb..

even tho everyone else said the tone was fantastic,

but, when hearing it played in front of me, yeah by someone else... go ahead and get the digs in...

well it sure doesn't sound like any of the others.. woodier, warmer, richer, fuller... you get the idea... and if you have one you know.

Enjoy it Randy! just got picked up by USPS and is on it's way west.... just talked to my shipper about getting a BLUKXII to AU without just having to saran wrap the case to meet the size restrictions....

I like to play facing the wall where the O's are hanging. They reflect back as well. In front of the sliding glass door works too.

I do avoid the full length mirrors though...

I thought it was my 2080, but when I had someone else play both, the 1537 was louder than the 2080.

But as stated earlier, both are much louder when you are in front of them.

i am happy to report i located some volume coming out of my elite 2078T. took the factory d'addario light strings off and replaced them with medium elixir phosphor bronzes. man, what a difference! i was considering selling it when i figured it wasn't going to work for its intended purpose of acoustic gigging. at the moment, selling it is no longer a consideration. now i'm thinking about adding some bling to it with a bruce wei tacky, fugly, MOP and abalone epaulet:

tj and oma ~ put some mediums on when you get yours.

i used the elite 2078T at an acoustic duet gig in kona last night. well...actually i played my 1688 and i brought the 2078 in case my partner wanted to play it. he brought his rainsong, which sounds excellent plugged, but cannot carry at an acoustic gig. i took it out of the case and asked joey if he would like to try it out. he ended up playing it for the entire two hours (other than two songs he played ukulele on) and i must say it sounded fabulous. joey is extremely talented and how the guy ever gets so much volume out of a guitar using only his bare thumb for picking, i'll never know. he plays some awesome lead and the 2078 cut right through my loud 12 stringer. it's a keeper, for sure. the medium strings really make a difference on it though.

It's hard to keep track of all the players w/o a score card. So you sold your first 1537, had remorse, and bought another one?

If that was the thread with the rants, I couldn't get thru most of it.

By the way, for anybody worried about buying a rebuilt guitar with a new top, the finish on the new tops is much thinner than the old finish and as a result, the tops vibrate much better. They should open up faster and sound even better, with time, than the old tops.....

i love the classic looks of the 1537 and its legendary appeal. after selling the one i got from stellarjim who got it from jeffw to povation over a year ago, i felt some remorse and figured i would get another one day. when i realized i could not yet swing getting the collings sj and i saw glenn's need to help his mom out, i decided to make an offer to glenn, which he accepted.

Just came back form a jam session and took my Adamas textured top -7, just to see players reactions and shock... :)

man, no contest against 2 D-28s, a Santa Cruz Tony Rice and 3 Collings Ds, 2 rosewood and 1 mahoghany, plus 3 banjos and 2 fiddles and a dobro.

I still hate the Collings necks, and I still think they are way overpriced for being Martin copies, but that is just my opinion.

The Adamas won, but of course, sound is in the players hands, ............and you already knew that.

Ovation,...........................pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease keep offering the Adamas textured tops, even if you move all the other models to the Orient.

Just concentrate in offering Adamas models with:

Textured tops.

Reissue slothead style.

Cutaways and non cutaways in all colors.

All nut sizes.

All different bowls sizes.

And all preamps.

I guess the Adamas Custom shop is what I am talking about, and already open.

There is just no comparison in tone, volume, sound, and look between any guitar against an Adamas textured top.

Spend a few years with one and you will know what I am talking about.

Just my opinion.

Now, if they can design a wooden bowl..............

Just kidding.........
