Unplugged of course, :)
Mine is my Adamas II -7
Maybe you own other brands that are louder but that is another thread, let's stick with Ovations/Adamas only.

the 1969 1115 shiny 12 string w/winged bridge and large soundhole(transitional model) that just came home from mother, Char even yelled at me last night to turn down the amp and had the door shut at the other end of the house.... those shiny reissues must be awesome.
the guitar wasn't plugged in. and she wasn't bitchn' bout my skills... it's a monster cannon... :D and plugged in with the FD14 electronics and pickup, it sounds like a choir of angels. again, many thanks to John and Kim!!

What did someone here call it? "Hand-laid deep bowl cannon" or something like that?
Anyway, it's way louder than the LX or the Folklore |

The two operative words here are "cable" and "loudest": cable meaning a bass piano wire/string (seemed so anyway) and loudest meaning a bass sound wave @ demolition dimensions! I think Homeland Security may be looking into that one, lol! |

Threads that invite all members to post about their guitars, ofcers that otherwise just read the posts but seldom participate.
Not everyone can attend the gatherings, and it is fun to read about the events and memories of the ones that can, but it is nice when there is a thread when you have everyone talk and share about their guitars.
So, Adamas models seem to be the loudest Os.
Who wants to do a count of all the loud models so far? |

Emphasis on quality of voice because you can always beat on a guitar and make it loud...It is a quality instrument that can be played softly; or hard and loud while maintaining superior "voice".
And a few of us have either the 1688 Adamas I or the 1685 Adamas II 12-str or both...then, unless the competition is limited to 6-strings, the Adamas I/II 12-str will lead the pack. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I finally got around to trying to "test" mine last night. The Ute seemed louder than the OFC. Of the woodtops, the 30th CL and Matrix were quite loud, but they were first and last in the test. I think the 30th CL has medium strings and all the others have lights.
So the definitive results of this test: I don't know. |

All of my decent guitars are hanging in a walk-in display area with hard walls and wooden floor. A nice little reverb chamber. I was installing some wooden molding on the door threshold and my wife yells "American Idol is on TV". So I bang in the last nail, the guitars are all ringing like hell and I go watch TV. An hour of American Idol, a ham & cheese sandwich and half the local news report later and it was time for bed. I came back up to turn off the lights in the music room. Slothead #42 was still vibrating. Damn ....

In our old GardenApartment, 54 used t'hang on the wall in the living room.
Whenever we watched a movie, I had to move the guitar into the bedroom, as the sympthetic vibrations (and their sustain) was quite distracting when you were trying t'watch a movie . . . |

But I still haven't checked.
Keep in mind that loud and tone are closely related but not always the same. I think back to the side by sides that Debanjo-Steve and I did after AmeliaMatt and picked the Tak 45 as the best sounding and one that we would always choose first, even though it was not the loudest.
To Randy's point the Tak Bluegrassers are loud (and good too!). The 1537 family of guitars are good too. A straight acoustic Adamas will be right up there too |

They say that Ovations "project" very well and I guess that's true. I never liked the sound of a 1537 while playing it. Always sounded like it was choking on something. I kept looking inside to see of the dog hid my socks in there. But every time Moody stands 5 feet away with the 1537 and points GOMM at me I'm blown away.
We should have detachable ears on long goosenecks that we can position in any way we want.

Dave That's what I felt/heard as well with the one I had restored... even before it went up for the refurb..
even tho everyone else said the tone was fantastic,
but, when hearing it played in front of me, yeah by someone else... go ahead and get the digs in...
well it sure doesn't sound like any of the others.. woodier, warmer, richer, fuller... you get the idea... and if you have one you know.
Enjoy it Randy! just got picked up by USPS and is on it's way west.... just talked to my shipper about getting a BLUKXII to AU without just having to saran wrap the case to meet the size restrictions....

tj and oma ~ put some mediums on when you get yours. |

Location: big island | i used the elite 2078T at an acoustic duet gig in kona last night. well...actually i played my 1688 and i brought the 2078 in case my partner wanted to play it. he brought his rainsong, which sounds excellent plugged, but cannot carry at an acoustic gig. i took it out of the case and asked joey if he would like to try it out. he ended up playing it for the entire two hours (other than two songs he played ukulele on) and i must say it sounded fabulous. joey is extremely talented and how the guy ever gets so much volume out of a guitar using only his bare thumb for picking, i'll never know. he plays some awesome lead and the 2078 cut right through my loud 12 stringer. it's a keeper, for sure. the medium strings really make a difference on it though. |

If that was the thread with the rants, I couldn't get thru most of it.
By the way, for anybody worried about buying a rebuilt guitar with a new top, the finish on the new tops is much thinner than the old finish and as a result, the tops vibrate much better. They should open up faster and sound even better, with time, than the old tops..... |

Location: Texas | Just came back form a jam session and took my Adamas textured top -7, just to see players reactions and shock... :)
man, no contest against 2 D-28s, a Santa Cruz Tony Rice and 3 Collings Ds, 2 rosewood and 1 mahoghany, plus 3 banjos and 2 fiddles and a dobro.
I still hate the Collings necks, and I still think they are way overpriced for being Martin copies, but that is just my opinion.
The Adamas won, but of course, sound is in the players hands, ............and you already knew that.
Ovation,...........................pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease keep offering the Adamas textured tops, even if you move all the other models to the Orient.
Just concentrate in offering Adamas models with:
Textured tops.
Reissue slothead style.
Cutaways and non cutaways in all colors.
All nut sizes.
All different bowls sizes.
And all preamps.
I guess the Adamas Custom shop is what I am talking about, and already open.
There is just no comparison in tone, volume, sound, and look between any guitar against an Adamas textured top.
Spend a few years with one and you will know what I am talking about.
Just my opinion.
Now, if they can design a wooden bowl..............
Just kidding......... |
