| Welcome Jimmie! I just purchased my first Ovation two weeks ago, but have been a member for a little while.
I'm still taking lessons myself, been doing so for over 2 years. I hope you will enjoy your lessons. Just remember that it will take time to accomplish what you want to.
I'm sure you'll enjoy your guitar and your stay here. Nice to have another New Yorker here on the board!

I remember back when I first took a couple lessons, the first thing the instructor would do was play my Ovation for the first ten minutes.
Good luck! It will be worth the effort. |

AJ Thanks Jim!
I'm dreamin' and schemin' now. I still want a Patriot, or a Legend or an Adamas, etc.
Love the Collector's. I can't wait to show my teacher how much my playing has improved, even since last week.

Starting off with that Ovation neck will be great because it is so comfortable to play.

You picked a winner of a first Ovation. |

| Welcome and congrats on your new git! As one of the best musicians and teachers I know (Matt Smith) likes to say, there's a reason they call it "playing" music. Above all, have fun! |

Here's another welcome to the Global Ovation Family!
I really need lessons. But I just attend as many OFC jams as possible to feed my 'need'.
Now that you're on the 'slippery slope', hang around and we'll fuel your GAS and assist in spending your money... |

Location: Endwell, New York | Hello once again, my friends. I had my first lesson today at 2:30. It went really well! My teacher, Nate was impressed with my K1111; he thought that the sound and action was "phat"! Now all I want to do is practice!!! Thank you all so much for all the warm wishes and the welcome notes. I am truly honored to be a part of the great Ovation Fan Club Family. Have a great evening, all and God Bless always! I will stay in touch on a regular basis. Thank you again |

| Jimmie,
I forgot to tell you that this is my second go round with lessons. I first took lessons when I was in my 20s, and I didn't appreciate the effort it takes to play the guitar. I was lazy and thought that the teacher was making me do useless stuff. Boy, was I wrong!
I suspect that because you are an older student (58 is not old, btw), you'll appreciate the lessons more.
I'm glad that your first lesson went so well, and hope that you continue having great lessons.

Thank you for the words of encouragement. I just retired from teaching in a public school after 31 years. I really did not want to retire, however, they gave me an incentive too good to pass up. I still love working with kids in the classroom and on the athletic field(I coach football and track), so I applied for and got hired at a Catholic middle school teaching Mathematics. I am able to teach in the Catholic school system because they are not in the New York State retirement system. My new principal plays the guitar and is an avid outdoorsman much like myself. So... playing the guitar is one of my new passions. I really love my new Ovation K1111 and enjoy playing it immensley!

Jimmie T That's neat. You're a teacher and have a boss that is a guitar lover!

| Jimmie, one other thing I forgot to tell you:
You may have people tell you that it is harder to learn guitar after you are a certain age.
I have found that is isn't harder to learn it, it may be harder to play what you've learned. I don't know about you, but I certainly move a little slower than I did at 25! But with practice, I'm actually getting faster (just not with the John Denver stuff right now).
I joked with my teacher that I'd take up the nickname Slowhand if it wasn't already taken by Eric Clapton!

You're certainly welcome, although Boise is almost 1000 miles past Rapid City. For you Easterners, that's like the distance from Miami to Washington, although you could probably drive pretty fast across Wyoming. I'd love to go, but I'll be driving to Chicago the next week and just can't see doing a 2000 mile round trip the weekend before. |

Location: Endwell, New York | Mark, I lived in Pine Ridge, South Dakota and taught at Red Cloud Indian School back in 1975. I loved the reservation and the Oglala Sioux. I would love to go back and visit someday. The West is truly amazing. The rolling plains and the sunsets are indescribable. As much as I love the mountains, having climbed all 46 of the 46 High Peaks of the Adirondacks in New York State, watching a spectacular sunset on the Plains has no equal. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I don't know, Jimmie. Watching a sunset from a mountain ridge over Hell's Canyon is tough to beat. I lived in Carrington, North Dakota in my early teens and liked it, but the flats, whether it's the plains or the ocean, bore me. The mountains have always fascinated me and I like my wide open spaces without fences. |

Does anybody out there have one, and what do you think of it? Am I borderline crazy??? Have a wonderful day, everyone! |

If you are crazy, you have a few 1000 friends you can go crazy with here. You are right on pace with many members here who bought an Ovation, joined up and got G.A.S.!!! :D |

And by the way, Hot Springs is not very far from Pine Ridge, and I'm hosting a gathering next June. If you want to see some of those beautiful sunsets, attend a songwriting workshop, or just meet some fine musicians and OFC'ers, come on out! |
