Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | At the urging of my family and more than a few folks here, I recently uploaded my songs to Soundclick.com and this week I'll start to sell my songs to those who would like to buy them...I also switched from ASCAP to BMI and that change came though in May...I have a new music company called HomeWard Music and just this week received some encouraging news:
My new song "Tranquility" charted this week:
Charts position
» highest in Pop charts: # 574 out of 104,647 songs currently listed in Pop)
» highest in Contemporary Christian charts: # 115 out of 12,963 songs currently listed in Contemporary Christian..
This may not mean a lot to some but to me it is the first time I have stretched to get my songs into the mainstream...I will be offering these songs on iTunes and other Venues in just few days...and I have three new songs that I am working on for my upcoming new album which I hope to have ready in the fall...
So, at the urging of several good friends, I am off to see how this works out...
Thank you folks for all of the support here...This is a great group...

My dad used to sing an play but never thought he was good enough (I guess I'm the same way, I nowhere near as good as he was but, I only sing for my Wife). He used to play in a little hole in the wall called the University Inn in Gainesville, Fl. One night in 1970, a guy came in and asked if he could record my dad singing and not knowing any better he said yes. My mom was furious with him and told him to wit and see, one of his songs was going to be recorded and end up on the radio. Shortly thereafter, they were in the car and heard his song "Hitching a Ride" as recorded by Vanity Fair. It had been changed a bit and made more up tempo but it was his nonetheless.
You are to be commended on following up on this, I wish I had the courage to do it! |

Here is an update: I just got a notification that two of my songs: "Ready and Willin" and "Two Old Flames" have been picked up by Country Radio and are receiving airplay...
I have not been able to find out much more than that since I am on my way to my two churches for services...more later... |

congrats, mike! i'm elated for your deserved success. hopefully, you'll be able to afford carpeting too. |

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | I like the individual care they provide the songwriters who are signed with them...I was with ASCAP for over 15 years...never heard from them unless I contacted them first...friends in the business had been trying to get me to switch for years...I finally did and I like it...
Nothing really wrong with ASCAP...just time for a change personally...
BTW: an update:
4 songs broke into the top 50 today and one (Hillbilly Highway" is #16 in Bluegrass...
Thanks for all the good wishes...Wow... |

And THANKS! I posted several songs to Sound Click a long while back and promptly forgot all about'em after a month or so. I didn't even know about the ratings, so I swallowed my amateur pride and took a peek. I couldn't believe it. People actually listened to them. I even had a top ten with Mingulay Boat Song ! (Admittedly, it was a category with a relatively small number of songs.) But seriously, who'da thunk?
Here's a link. (I love feedback.)
Patch\'s Sound Click Songs
And here are my rankings, including the song that I contibuted to A Day At The Beach---OFC CD II.

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | It's a start and a good way to get the name out there and get your stuff heard...I have been holding back on doing any of that and Patch is right...people are playing the songs...a lot in some cases...but think of it group; we're charting in catagories where there are thousands of songs...some folks never get played...so, do I plan to get rich? Of course not; at least not from soundclick...but I don;t plan to stop there and I have gotten some industry inquiries as well...and I will be offering them on iTunes and several other sites as well...
Hey, Randy is the one who first suggested I do this almost a year ago...his slack key tunes are first rate and are being played as well they should...
I just enjoy having the digital possibilites that we did not have 10 years ago...it kind of levels the playing field in some respects...
And I'm still playing and writing...
Autographs? Puulleeeze.....that and 25 cents will not buy a cup of coffee...lol
But....

Hey my thanks to Randy who was the one who first suggested I do this almost a year ago...his slack key tunes are first rate and are being played and heard as well they should...
I just enjoy having the digital possibilites that we did not have 10 years ago...it kind of levels the playing field in some respects...The industry is still stuck in the same old tired stuff they always have been...just watch "Can you Duet" or "American Idol" or any of those venues...the "judges" are enough to make you taste bile...
Bottom line is: I'm still playing and writing...
Autographs? Puulleeeze.....that and 25 cents will not buy a cup of coffee...lol
