But you all have been very supportive and encouraging with my artwork. Thought you might like to see the latest:

Smart One, Cute One, Funny One, Quiet One

It's the Beatles as Dr. Seuss characters. I thought it might make a series of fun drawings. Honest opinions appreciated.

I've been really busy with drawing lately. Meeting with a guy again today on a children's book project we're doing.

The trim size is 16" x 13.5"
The image area is 14.4" x 11.5", so it has 1/4" bleed, made to fit a 14 x 11 mat. But I converted the drawing to vector art before I colored it in Adobe Illustrator, so it will print cleanly at any size. 28 x 22 would be just as sharp.

Jas... you do good work.
I think you capture the spirit of the Fab 4 quite well.

His work on the not so fab 4 of the Northwest Gathering was better, but probably had no chance for commercial success.

Yeah, I think I'm going to edit descriptions to be non-specific. But if anybody has any warnings, I'm glad to hear.

I like it.

Edit to add: Very nice work. I really do like it. Didn't want you to think I was being flippant.

I think Dr. Seuss would be proud. Or maybe jealous. In any case, nice work.

Fun concept, great execution.

You do very nice work, Cap'n.

Do you do your own printing or do you use a service? (I'm curious what printer and inks you use…)

…or is that getting too off-topic?

Regardless, it's great stuff, and I agree with others who advised that you remove any specific reference to the inspirations. Not surprisingly, the most litigious copyright-holders are often descendants of deceased artists…

I work for a commercial printing company and we have a professional large format printer, which we actually use from time to time to produce limited edition prints.

These are on Epson professional premium semi-gloss paper, using Epson archival inks. We can print on watercolor paper or other media. On these, the semigloss really makes the colors pop.

I'm sure that any depiction or likeness, even in the form of a cartoon, has been trademarked for many years. Would a reasonable person (i.e., somebody seated in a jury box) conclude that (1) you intended that the pics depict or represent the likeness of certain persons and (2) any profit you might make from sale of the pics is based at least in part on this depiction? You're probably safe because the size of your business is presumably small and not worth the effort to pursue, at least until you start receiving cease and desist letters. I don't know squat about trademark law, but I got a good night's sleep at a Holiday inn Express last night.
