I know of a nice one that's available and not much of a stretch for you from where you've just been, and no, it's not mine. |

TJ, It'd go nice with that Martin that's on order. ;) |

Location: South of most, North of few | Now I know I'm going to pick up some flak for this, but... I've played quite a few Collings, at get togethers (Beals) and at several stores local and in Tenn. and never played one that really reached out and grabbed me, especially for the price. I know the workmanship is flawless, and they are technically put together as good as you can get, but I actually prefer the sound of my Martins (and my Gibson) to them. I bought the 1680 to take camping because it's pretty indestructible, has a "manly" neck, and sounds great. Now before all of you jump on me for taking an Adamas out camping, I'm not talking in a tent, I guess you would call it RV ing. Hot showers, AC, flat screen tv, internet access, etc... She'll be pampered. |

Location: Latitude 39.56819, Longitude -105.080066 | No flak from us TJ. Martin has a distinct sound that many prefer. I have played a few (Beals '39 D18 for example) that had me comatose and drooling. That was one fine sounding guitar regardless of brand.
I typically just prefer the crisper sound of Collings but my Froggy F12 is kinda a mix of the two and the Borges OM18 I have on order is based on a pre-war Martin so go figure............ |

TJ's disease must be contagious. For those keeping score at home you have it pretty much correct. Interestingly the whole thing started when I came here looking for advice regarding a finish crack on a 1778LX, which I received, heeded and used to return that guitar to it's rightful owner and got a full refund minus shipping through PayPal. That left an opening for a replacement which I found in Victor's lovely 2077LX. But, as this list goes for anyone who hangs around a while not long after that Nasdtrader dangled a vary tasty 1680 out there which just gnawed at me for a few days (which he will attest to as referenced by my many e-mails) and I decided to go in DEEP. After spending a month with it and finding no complaints other than A) I learned that a 12 fretter is not my preference and B) I'd never take it out to gig with, which was the whole point in getting an acoustic in the first place. So when the latest discussion came up and I felt a little interest I thought it was as good a time as any to make another switch.
But what the last three guitar have offered me was a chance to experience a solid cross section of Ovation product: Mid depth, contour, wood, carbon fiber, XLR, Op-Pro Studio, VIP, 12 and 14 fret, cut away and non cut away styles. Not bad, and all while staying financially sound. And yes, I am now in the market for an Elite T (which is, even more interestingly, the very model I originally pursued when I decided to add an acoustic before being lured by the 1778LX) which may just fill all my current needs nicely and if not, we all know there's plenty more out there.
Sometimes in life I just let things go where they lead me and very often they head in some pretty nifty directions. By fates hand, had I not bought the 1778LX and had it not been damaged I would not have been here and would have NEVER owned an Adamas nor been exposed to all the fine folks here. I many ways I feel that the guitars are secondary to the experience of the group. Simply the vehicle that facilitates the community.
So, I'll keep on going and see where the wheel stops next.... |
