Keith (WarEagle) and I would like to invite everyone to the Southern Style Smokey's Jam, starting Friday September the 25th thru Sunday the 27th.

This year's event will be held in beautiful Maggie Valley, NC (north west of Asheville).

Instead of limited floor, sofa and bed space, we have decided to rent a Mountain house with ALOT of bedrooms, baths, lofts, etc. One that we are looking at has 6 bedrooms, 4 baths, 2 lofts with beds and a pull out couch. There is a large indoor area and an outside deck with views to kill for. We, however, don't want to have too little or too much space. We are also asking that attendees share in the cost of the rental. The prices should be well below the price of a hotel room and you will get to commune with your favorite OFC'ers  ! (please PM me for more info.)

I realize that this is a little short notice and hope that everyone wishing to attend can come.

Anyone needing a place to lay their head on Thursday Sept. 24th or Sunday the 27th, is welcome to stay @ Casa Beggin. I am about a 2 hour drive from Maggie Valley.

Maggie Valley is a beautiful area with lots to do for those that would like to bring SWMBO and the kids. The Biltmore House is nearby (as of course is the great town of Asheville).

We hope to see everyone there!!

That would depend upon the # of family members attending. If it's just Nicky and I, then absolutely.

It's not so much the driving/time as $$. BUT, after the E.M. I got for Jim it may be doable. (which git do I sell, ;~) )
Right now I'm 75% leanning toward going. The big thing that is really concerning me is IF, I suddenly find a Job I'd have to back out.
Jim, when would you need a definite Yes or No?

Bob, as always, the sooner the better. If the house fills, we will seek another in addition to it. If it doesn't, we can always ask the bears to come in.

Richard and Mike, it won't be the same without you! Randy are you being serious, or just funnin' us? It would be great to see you again!

I have most of the "we are comings" e-mail addresses, but please PM me with them just in case. I will send you more information and a link to the house that Keith reserved.

I didn't even bother checking with the wife. Air fare alone was around $1000 last time I checked. I spent that on guitars. I almost wished I travelled on business as much as I used to, so I'd have more miles for stuff like this.

All PM's answered. please check them for info!

This is a great opportunity for you newcomers and oldtimers to join in on one of the gettagethers.

To my knowledge no one has ever been kidnapped or seriously hurt.....well there was the iffy incident last year....

Anyway, this is a great opportunity to see and play many great Ovation and Adamas gits. Knowing those that have already committed, there may be a few "other" gits there too! BTW: the people ain't so bad either.

:( It's right before my son's wedding, so a trip South won't be happening for me this year. :(
(And next year is the shindig at Ali's, so I'll have to see all y'all there...) :)

It neds the bridge replaced finish pulled back down. The neck might need to be reset.

Sorry Jas, I was looking at PM's and e-mails for confirmation, it seems that you explicitly confirmed on Page 1 here.

You will be happy to know that you have been promoted to Head Counselor, seems that Morty had a bad accident and won't be coming back this year. Therefore you are entitled to Morty's old room (you know, the cot in the middle of the lake room?!)

It's probably closer to 6 hours but that's not a problem. Just depends on what is going on at work and at home. It will most likely be a last minute decision. But I would definitely like to come if for nothing else than to watch Iffy break his other foot.

Hey I got nothing better going on! I will say this and NO offense to anyone comming as I look forward to truly meeting all of you. There are a "few" members going that are important for me to meet and for them to be there. IF, they can't make the switch it would be VERY difficult for me to justify going at this time. Most of you understand my current situation.
Again, my appoligies.

Well, my kid is just going into middle school and he had that Friday (the original) off. The wife says if it's the 11-13th I can go, but without the family. Don't know, but well see what happens with the scheduling. As soon as this thing gets written in stone, let us know. What about Oct or Nov?

If at all possible, I'd like to keep it in September. Nicky has the monday after the original weekend off, which would be good, but I think either of the other two weekends will work.

Some things even a Head Counselor can't counsel. Oh, the trauma!!

I'm there, Jim and Keith! Lots of "life" happening lately and man, I am REALLY in need of a get together.

Iffy, I'm working on another book copy, should have it done in time, and you got dibs. Got a few new tunes since you saw it last, too.

Man, I sure hope TRboy can make it. I think I read on the internet that it's illegal to party in the mountains without at least one person in the group capable of the proper footwork.

Is it time for a 'guitar request bring list'?

I'd like to fondle an '87C, Elite 5868 and any old shiny bowl.

What about g8r's 87C? He's had it at every jam, and it's awesome.

A 5868 would be fantastic.

It'll be there. Unless I sell it (never thought I'd say that) to help fund a Collings OM2H-Custom I played yesterday at Make'n Music in Chicago. SWMBO was impressed enough with it that she said I could buy it - IF I sold off some of the herd to fund it. Major dilemma...

Me either. But I'm glad to know that if you do, Iffy will buy it and I can still play it. It\'s probably my favorite O out of all the WESB guitars.

Hey all, If any of you going to SSSJ have a guitar at the Mothership and it will be ready
before the 22nd I can probably fit a couple extra in the car for the ride down to save you some shipping costs.
I may have one comming back so I could probably fit 1 more comming back going to the M.S.

Jack (kotadog) has confirmed that he and a friend will be coming to join us.

He has tried to pull the "I have only been playin for 2 years" trick, but I let him know that I have that claim permanently reserved.

Look forward to meeting you Jack!

Is there still the option of splitting a house, well below the cost of a hotel room? In that case, you're in with us, right Jack?

The house is full and there's just 2 of us as far as extras. That's why we're looking at motels. If someone cancels we'll move to the house.

Oddly enough, there is also a Plessunderwood Rd. which is in a different place in Maggie Valley. The one you listed is the correct one, eh?

Ok guys and gals, here is the rooming arrangement as of this moment:

Bedroom1: WarEagle and friends
Bedroom2: Beggin and the Mrs.
Bedroom3: The Tim in Tidewater Family
Bedroom4: The CrimsonLake Band
Bedroom5: Trader and Crew
Bunk Bedroom, Loft1 and Loft2: 2iffy (hopefully not in top bunk), Jas, BT717, and g8r (pick your own roomy), kotadog and friend Brad.

Catching the first available (and hopefully comfortable couch), none other than MR. BILL OTTO himself.

Any other couches and or floor space can go to those that need extra room (for OFC urchins and such) or those that can't make it to their assigned quarters.

This info is up to date as of NOW!!!!

Please let me know if anyone's plans or needs have changed.

When Karl and I were playing his guitars in Germany one of the gals on our tour asked where they were made. I told her New Hartford, Connecticut. She said she lived her whole life in Hartford and never heard of Ovation or New Hartford. Either Connecticut is a lot bigger than I thought or New Hartford is a mythical place. There's also a myth that there were factory tours. When we wanted to stir things up around here we'd ask Al when the next tour was.

Anything for you, Mr.Otto! ;)

One week, One day, and a Half, to good friends and new friends, good music, good food, libations of questionable nature and more fun than should be deserved.

After ALL that has happened in this world since the last SSSJ, it will be nice to return to a little NORMALCY.

It is with great regret that I must say I won't be able to attend SSSJ. My lovely and wonderful wife broke the small bone of her lower leg just above the ankle, and so I'll be staying home to care for her. Y'all have fun, and hoist (quite) a few of those questionable libations for me.

Those of you getting a ToneRite, I've got a call in to Iffy to see if he can stop by on his way up and pick them up.

Serge, now the talent quotient has dropped significantly, I might stand a chance playing. Very sorry to hear about Jimli's incident. Like Cholloway said, brings back memories, albeit bad ones. Give her a hug for me and we'll see you soon. Thanks again for your efforts on the Tonerite.

Sorry to hear about the competition water skiing accident.

Jhimli will back on top next year. Hopefully, and selfishly, this will not diminish her ability to prepare fine cuisine.

Jhimli, make Serge wait on you hand and foot. We hope for the quickest possible recovery!

Sorry to hear, Serge. Kimby-D broke her fibula (and tibia) just above the ankle about this time last year. Jhimli will definitely need a little help, and it'll probably do you some good to carry the water for a while. ;) Here's to a speedy and complete recovery.

I'm at a toss up between the OFC I 1689 or OFC II 2080 or maybe the 1688 Adamas I 12 string. Not sure how much room I'll have after packing the ladies & their stuff into the Bronco. Anybody coming have a hankering to play something in particular?

U681T (for those that haven't seen it compared to the 1680)
1681
maybe the 1537 if I have room.
delivering to Wareagle: 1685 12er

I have no doubts that you'll walk away satisfied :D

Slight change in schedule for us. We're going to hit the road tonight and stay over about 1/2 way - Staunton, Va. I believe, and then travel the rest of the way tomorrow. Believe it or not, I already drove 5 hours round trip today to Baltimore for a customer meeting.

I'm probably packing light - 1 or 2 guitars - as there just isn't enough time to get it all together.

ROAD TRIP!!!!

Just for back from the Jam...what a great time and I hated to leave...but I didn't think I'd be able to go at all so thats OK...

Beautiful Location, Beautiful People, and Beautiful Guitars...Yes, Mike, Ify was OK when I left...

here are some photo's:...remember this is day one of a three day Jam; Otto, Crimson Lake, Nicky, Jas and a couple of others were just arriving and TnT and family were on the way...so the guitars are just a small taste of what was there...

We had a blast! Keith's dad had us doubled over with his stories and songs...and TJ managed a guitar deal within ten minutes of arriving...it went something like this: "Wow, TJ what a beauty...(TJ) It's for sale...actually, everything is for sale...and it looks great on you too...How Much? Well I paid Three fiddy for it but I couldn't let it go for less than Eight...but I will take a trade" And, he did!(lol, sorry TJ, you know we love ya!)

Well, here are a couple of pic's and check out the ning album as well: remember to click on each photo for a super sized view!

NING Album: Day One...

I'm told the jar contains holy water...(really thats what I was told)...Great Smokies Holy Water...(I don't know but I wouldn't use it for anything other than paint thinner)...although with these usual suspects anything is possible...

What a great bunch of folks! The music was fine and the guitars were impressive...the food was out of this world and the weather held off for today...Just a Good for the mind, body and soul kind of day!

All Righty!!

If that's the same stuff as last year, I reckon it would dissolve guitar strings! I noticed nobody was drinking it too close to the open fire either.

The stuff in those Mason jars is everything you've heard and more; I took a wee taste last year (figuring I might never have the chance again), and decided right then that if I needed my sinuses cleared that badly, Chinese mustard is preferable. If it has a medicinal use, it must be to sterilize instruments, because it can't be recommended based on taste alone (shuddering at the remembrance.)

I wish I could be there, too--had such a great time last year, and would love to see all y'all again. I especially enjoyed meeting all the SWMBOs who had come along--oh, well, maybe next year! (Close-to-Jersey female-folk, if there is a SSSJ III next year, I'll be "in" if you will be!)

Richard, there's a story... it happened after Music left, and may not ever be told.

Thanks mucho to Beggin and War Eagle for a great weekend.

I have pix up in my ning album. There will surely be many more posted as people get home.

Karen, I think we decided that this was SSSJ 3. It's a rolling together of Southern Style Jamboree and Smokies Jam, and it's the third SSJ. Don't miss #4!

Doesn't matter where you are, you just can't have a better time than in a house full of OFC family. Put the house on a mountaintop and...

Just got home from what seems like 2 weeks of driving, but I'm happy to say, I was able to pick up the Martin 000-15S that I won on Ebay with a pass through Daytona Beach. It was worth it now that I'm home safe with memories of a great time with great people. Thanks to all who made it what it was!

Aw, Jack! Ya should know me better by now...

What a totally FANTASTIC gathering! I'm still pumped... My special thanx to Keith and Jim for setting it up!

Several observations:
-OFC gatherings are must to attend. It's just about the most fun ya can have with your clothes on.
-If ya don't have a grand time, it's your fault.
-Yankee OFC 'virgins' are priceless.
-A bass guitarist should be mandatory at the gatherings. It added an awesome dimension to the jams. Thanx Brad!
-My guitars sound so much better sitting in front of them instead behind 'em. Ummm, never mind, I just realized why...
-Otto and Jas blew me away with the tightest and sweetest harmony since the Everly Brothers. If I didn't know better, I would have sworn a few of their songs were professional studio recordings.
-I can hold a pick. Now I gotta learn how to use 'em.
-As Brad learned, ol' country songs can be depressing.
-As JB learned, gravity sucks.
-As BT learned, asphalt is a birth defect in da mountains. Gotta love the gravel roads...

I have to say I'm blessed with the fine 'family' that has become a rewarding part of my life. Love and thanks to all of ya'll.

BTW, I have put some pics on my NING. I'll add what I have that are not dupes of the other attendees later on.

Nicky and I got back last night and we both wished it would've lasted much longer. A big thanks to Keith and Beggin for getting this together. It was the perfect location.

Not much more to add except to say that it was great seeing everyone again - and meeting Jack and Brad for the first time. The best that I can say is that I feel more at home at these gatherings than just about anywhere else in the world.

Serge, Blues, Capo, Gway, Joisey Goils, Richard - we missed ya!

Having the bass definitely added some pizzaz to the songs - and having it played by such a nice guy (Brad) is just gravy.
