Location: Simpsonville, SC | Keith (WarEagle) and I would like to invite everyone to the Southern Style Smokey's Jam, starting Friday September the 25th thru Sunday the 27th.
This year's event will be held in beautiful Maggie Valley, NC (north west of Asheville).
Instead of limited floor, sofa and bed space, we have decided to rent a Mountain house with ALOT of bedrooms, baths, lofts, etc. One that we are looking at has 6 bedrooms, 4 baths, 2 lofts with beds and a pull out couch. There is a large indoor area and an outside deck with views to kill for. We, however, don't want to have too little or too much space. We are also asking that attendees share in the cost of the rental. The prices should be well below the price of a hotel room and you will get to commune with your favorite OFC'ers  ! (please PM me for more info.)
I realize that this is a little short notice and hope that everyone wishing to attend can come.
Anyone needing a place to lay their head on Thursday Sept. 24th or Sunday the 27th, is welcome to stay @ Casa Beggin. I am about a 2 hour drive from Maggie Valley.
Maggie Valley is a beautiful area with lots to do for those that would like to bring SWMBO and the kids. The Biltmore House is nearby (as of course is the great town of Asheville).
We hope to see everyone there!! |

Right now I'm 75% leanning toward going. The big thing that is really concerning me is IF, I suddenly find a Job I'd have to back out.
Jim, when would you need a definite Yes or No? |

Jim, when would you need a definite Yes or No? [/QB] Bob, as always, the sooner the better. If the house fills, we will seek another in addition to it. If it doesn't, we can always ask the bears to come in. |

This is a great opportunity for you newcomers and oldtimers to join in on one of the gettagethers.
To my knowledge no one has ever been kidnapped or seriously hurt.....well there was the iffy incident last year....
Anyway, this is a great opportunity to see and play many great Ovation and Adamas gits. Knowing those that have already committed, there may be a few "other" gits there too! BTW: the people ain't so bad either. |

You will be happy to know that you have been promoted to Head Counselor, seems that Morty had a bad accident and won't be coming back this year. Therefore you are entitled to Morty's old room (you know, the cot in the middle of the lake room?!) |

There are a "few" members going that are important for me to meet and for them to be there. IF, they can't make the switch it would be VERY difficult for me to justify going at this time. Most of you understand my current situation.

I'm there, Jim and Keith! Lots of "life" happening lately and man, I am REALLY in need of a get together.
Iffy, I'm working on another book copy, should have it done in time, and you got dibs. Got a few new tunes since you saw it last, too.
Man, I sure hope TRboy can make it. I think I read on the internet that it's illegal to party in the mountains without at least one person in the group capable of the proper footwork.

SWMBO was impressed enough with it that she said I could buy it - IF I sold off some of the herd to fund it. Major dilemma... |

Bunk Bedroom, Loft1 and Loft2: 2iffy (hopefully not in top bunk), Jas, BT717, and g8r (pick your own roomy), kotadog and friend Brad.

She said she lived her whole life in Hartford and never heard of Ovation or New Hartford. Either Connecticut is a lot bigger than I thought or New Hartford is a mythical place. There's also a myth that there were factory tours. When we wanted to stir things up around here we'd ask Al when the next tour was. |

One week, One day, and a Half, to good friends and new friends, good music, good food, libations of questionable nature and more fun than should be deserved.
After ALL that has happened in this world since the last SSSJ, it will be nice to return to a little NORMALCY.

Since I missed Amelia this year, the last event I attended was the g8rbowl in January, my "mojo" is running really low. This weekend should give me the fillup that I need. |

I have no doubts that you'll walk away satisfied :D
Slight change in schedule for us. We're going to hit the road tonight and stay over about 1/2 way - Staunton, Va. I believe, and then travel the rest of the way tomorrow. Believe it or not, I already drove 5 hours round trip today to Baltimore for a customer meeting.
I'm probably packing light - 1 or 2 guitars - as there just isn't enough time to get it all together. |

Just for back from the Jam...what a great time and I hated to leave...but I didn't think I'd be able to go at all so thats OK...
Beautiful Location, Beautiful People, and Beautiful Guitars...Yes, Mike, Ify was OK when I left...
here are some photo's:...remember this is day one of a three day Jam; Otto, Crimson Lake, Nicky, Jas and a couple of others were just arriving and TnT and family were on the way...so the guitars are just a small taste of what was there...
We had a blast! Keith's dad had us doubled over with his stories and songs...and TJ managed a guitar deal within ten minutes of arriving...it went something like this: "Wow, TJ what a beauty...(TJ) It's for sale...actually, everything is for sale...and it looks great on you too...How Much? Well I paid Three fiddy for it but I couldn't let it go for less than Eight...but I will take a trade" And, he did!(lol, sorry TJ, you know we love ya!)
Well, here are a couple of pic's and check out the ning album as well: remember to click on each photo for a super sized view!
NING Album: Day One...
I'm told the jar contains holy water...(really thats what I was told)...Great Smokies Holy Water...(I don't know but I wouldn't use it for anything other than paint thinner)...although with these usual suspects anything is possible...
What a great bunch of folks! The music was fine and the guitars were impressive...the food was out of this world and the weather held off for today...Just a Good for the mind, body and soul kind of day!
All Righty!! |

Location: Budd Lake, NJ | The stuff in those Mason jars is everything you've heard and more; I took a wee taste last year (figuring I might never have the chance again), and decided right then that if I needed my sinuses cleared that badly, Chinese mustard is preferable. If it has a medicinal use, it must be to sterilize instruments, because it can't be recommended based on taste alone (shuddering at the remembrance.)
I wish I could be there, too--had such a great time last year, and would love to see all y'all again. I especially enjoyed meeting all the SWMBOs who had come along--oh, well, maybe next year! (Close-to-Jersey female-folk, if there is a SSSJ III next year, I'll be "in" if you will be!)

Thanks mucho to Beggin and War Eagle for a great weekend.
I have pix up in my ning album. There will surely be many more posted as people get home.
Karen, I think we decided that this was SSSJ 3. It's a rolling together of Southern Style Jamboree and Smokies Jam, and it's the third SSJ. Don't miss #4! |

I was digging through my gallery here in the members section and found this gem. That photo must be recent because they still look exactly the same. |

That one will stay with Iffy forever. Aw, Jack! Ya should know me better by now...
What a totally FANTASTIC gathering! I'm still pumped... My special thanx to Keith and Jim for setting it up!
Several observations:
-OFC gatherings are must to attend. It's just about the most fun ya can have with your clothes on.
-If ya don't have a grand time, it's your fault.
-Yankee OFC 'virgins' are priceless.
-A bass guitarist should be mandatory at the gatherings. It added an awesome dimension to the jams. Thanx Brad!
-My guitars sound so much better sitting in front of them instead behind 'em. Ummm, never mind, I just realized why...
-Otto and Jas blew me away with the tightest and sweetest harmony since the Everly Brothers. If I didn't know better, I would have sworn a few of their songs were professional studio recordings.
-I can hold a pick. Now I gotta learn how to use 'em.
-As Brad learned, ol' country songs can be depressing.
-As JB learned, gravity sucks.
-As BT learned, asphalt is a birth defect in da mountains. Gotta love the gravel roads...
I have to say I'm blessed with the fine 'family' that has become a rewarding part of my life. Love and thanks to all of ya'll.
BTW, I have put some pics on my NING. I'll add what I have that are not dupes of the other attendees later on. |

-A bass...should be mandatory at the gatherings. You mean like the one in the picture? I'm pretty sure it's fretless, and they're a little harder to play. :p |

Not much more to add except to say that it was great seeing everyone again - and meeting Jack and Brad for the first time. The best that I can say is that I feel more at home at these gatherings than just about anywhere else in the world.
Serge, Blues, Capo, Gway, Joisey Goils, Richard - we missed ya!
Having the bass definitely added some pizzaz to the songs - and having it played by such a nice guy (Brad) is just gravy. |
