Location: Florida Central Gulf Coast | Just got back from the Keys this evening after a FANTASTIC two and half days filled with fishing, buggin', reef snorkeling, feasting and a bit of git playing with TJ, Bonnie and Paul.
Well, awaiting me at home was the free Rogue guitar that was tossed in that D'Add string special, buy 10 sets and get a free git.
Rogue 000 Parlor RG-421B(lack)
* Spruce Top
* Diecast Tuning Machines
* D'Add Strings (lights, I think)
* Nickel/Silver Frets
* Rosewood Fretboard & Bridge
* Nato (Eastern Mahogany) Neck
* Body Binding
* Nut 1 5/8"
A trace of glue visible at the sound hole end of the FB and the back edge of the bridge. I did get a nut ping tuning up the B string. Other than that, it's actually not a bad lil' git for a cheapie, great for a freebie.
Easy player with a decent sound. The action is a LOT better than I expected (I remember the ol' Silvertones, OUCH).
This one is going to one of my sons-in-law in that he thinks he wants to learn guitar to entertain the kids at his school. Since it's an easy player, if he sticks with it, I'll shed one of my 'O's later. Not sure how the Rogue will hold up in the interim.
Bottom line, glad I took the chance, twice. Haven't opened the other one yet... :p
Anyone else willing to admit they got one? |

Ya can't be serious! :eek: Geeze, I get in enough trouble without posting pics of a bottom feeder's 'give away'.
But if you insist, I'll join the Taylor forum and post 'em there... <just kidding MM, really!>
I'll post a couple later today. |

I received my "freebie" as well and am really pleasantly surprised! As you noticed, the action is actually quite nice. D'Darrio strings, stays in tune well, has nice projection and is free! It's destined to be my takeittotheparkandcamping guitar. Very surprised and happy with it. |

Location: New Hampsha | As I was driving the bandwagon I have to admit to getting one.
I have to agree that while the workmanship was a tad "BFLG" (file marks on the fretboard binding where they went after a ragged fret end, and some misplaced glue) overall it wasn't bad.
I converted mine to a lefty - lose the pickguard, new nut and routed a new saddle slot - and gave it to my daughter; who is enjoying it.
Well worth the price and I get to try some Cleartones. I was just using up the last of the D'addarios I got with the last free guitar (Tak Jasmine)so the timing was perfect.
This is a sweet deal. |

That's actually my expectation. If it holds up long enough to see if my S-I-L really wants to learn, I'll be a happy camper.
BTW, these tuners are pretty smooth so far. |

Criticizing a free serviceable guitar is truly looking a gift horse in the mouth???? Some could argue that nothing is truly free, but the price I paid for 6 sets of Cleartones was competitive, so I can say it was "free" without looking down.
It didn't cost anything to buy or ship, it's not bad to play, it sounds OK, it looks OK, it serves it's purpose to see if daughter will stay with the guitar, and did I mention it was FREE? |

The photo op venue was selected for max acoustic capability and to support some members opinions of the Rogue.
... and NO, I will not do a recording...
Still a neat lil' git for a freebie...

I don't really have an answer for that one! It's just something I noticed while perusing the guitar listings. |

Location: Guitar Town USA | i'm new to this board so my opinion probably don't amount to nothing, but why? the cost of these guitars is so high even if you think it's free. they use chinese slave labor to build these. that's bad for freedom-loving people who care about their fellow man. they rape the forest to get cheap wood. they pollute the environment, air and water with their manufacturing methods. they use precious energy to run the factory, ship the goods here, and then ship the good to you. all so you think you get a free guitar when it cost so dearly for enslaved people and our childrens future. and the slaver makes money to buy more slaves. all this for a pos guitar that will be crap and in the rubbish heap in six months. not good at all. think please. |

Since you are on the web, that means that you have access to a 'puter, a service provider, electricity, etc. Apparently you have enough to eat to exist, some shelter and hopefully some conveniences that enables you to exist in less than primitive conditions.
So, why cast pebbles while you stand on stones? We're here to enjoy, cuss and discuss guitars.
Just because you're new here does not mean your opinion counts less than others; it's just another opinion.
Oh, BTW, where does the wood, materials and fuel come from for the non-POS guitars?
Hopefully, you'll take my response, not as an admonition, but as a request for you to take your own advice and "think please."
Take care and love life...
Tim, hold on... be right back... here ya go... |

i thought ovation and martin and taylor and collings and similars were responsible companies who paid their people living wages, take responsible actions toward wood and supplier selections, and obey environmental standards. i guess you're telling they are not.
pass the popcorn. oh please. sorry you think i'm a freak show. thanks so much for the nice welcome and the back handed slap. i've been playing guitars for 40 years and ovations for 30. i try to be responsible in my time here on this planet. apparently this is the wrong place for me to spend any time. sorry to intrude on your little club. bye. |

My popcorn isn't even done popping yet! - The disposable aluminum-foil thingie on the disposable aluminum pan with the throw-away steel handle hasn't expanded all the way!
Oops. I burned it; There's smoke in the kitchen and I dropped my disposable aluminun can of soda when I turned the energy-dispensing unit down.
Now I have to throw all of it away and start another one.
Where were we? Oh yes - you were departing - Bye! |

Agreed! Neither is self-indulgent self-pride. Too bad you haven’t been around here long enough to see and participate in some of the most generous acts of kindness that this membership has participated in. Just because you did not garner support in your non related issue, now you’re in a snit.

Another magical leap of logic. If they didn’t follow your list, you wouldn’t have any gits. Welcome to the real world of economics…
Seriously, if you love guitars, hang around and I think you’ll find an apt 'position' in this 'family'. BTW, I think I’m the ol’ curmudgeon uncle…
If you would care to continue our discussion, please PM or email me so that we can get back on the thread’s topic here. |

Location: Guitar Town USA | last post. sorry i got in the middle of your scene. this was my fault for letting my personal passions get in the mix. i was told you all wanted some artist who play ovations to come check it out. this is why its a bad idea. we don't see things the same. i made the mistake of assuming people here would want to be socially aware. my mistake. i know now i probably don't have too many people here who listen to me. that's ok. i touch people where and when i can. i have been to all of the guitar factories i stated and i know they are very aware of their social responsibility to people and the environment when they build guitars. in fact they take pride in it. and yes i have plenty of 'gits'. what surprises me though is that i make a general statement to be aware, but then i am personally attacked. and made fun of. again and again. for an opinion. not cool. like i said, this is for sure not a place for me ... i stuck my toe in the water but it's not to my liking. but it's life's adventures like these that keep my music relevant. peace. |

So, greed is good. Unbridled greed is bad, but then so is unbridled eating.
If we thought too deeply about the state of the world and humanity, we'd be too depressed to live. Or we'd be living in huts in the woods writing our manifestos.
All of us here, though, do live charmed lives in many ways. Blessed to live in a time and place where we can enjoy luxuries that we take for granted, like air conditioning and safe water. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | My daughter is an admitted tree hugger. When she went to buy her first guitar, her tree hugger friends convinced her that she shouldn't buy a guitar with a plastic back guitar because plastic increased our dependance of foreign oil or contributed to the ozone layer or something like that. When I asked her about the extra trees that were cut to make the back and sides of her Ibanez, she didn't have a response. |
