Location: NW of Philadelphia | A while ago I started having an issue with my OP-Pro preamp. It kept cutting out. I mentioned it to Al, who suggested I talk with Rick Hall of Ovation at the OFC gathering in NJ. I did. Rick thought it was a can issue, but said that he would get a new can and preamp (just in case) out to me. Due to KMC office moves, and vacations, it took a while but it the box arrived yesterday. In it: 1/4" jack and lead, a new can and in it was an OP-Pro Studio preamp.
So last night I installed the new can (very easy - just don't over tighten), dropped in the Studio preamp and plugged it into my GB Shen Jr. All I can say is WOW, the difference is like night and day. I always thought the OP-Pro had a great sound, warm and full. But the Pro Studio is very different, alive, bright, clear, and it seems louder. I am trying to figure out where the "Drive" and "Expressor" need to be set and the new tone will take some getting used too. But I think I am going to like it.
