I see on the forum that there is a lot of purchasing of new guitars going on, but I don't see much music being made and recorded. I say share the sound! If you're gonna buy 18 guitars, play 'em, record something, and post it on your Ning page. Dweezel and Musicmishka stepped up....how 'bout some others. (Don't say "you first"....I'm not the one buying new guitars right and left)

I'm sellin'

But I did buy too. Someone just sent me a clip of a show we did last Friday. I'm not playing an O though, I was playing the T60 and the sound's not the best, and then a drunken gal (though very cute) got up on stage and grabbed a mic, then J (another band member) started yelling for someone to unplug the mic at the end of the song. So much turmoil!

Man, I gotta find some better places to play!..

I'll post it though if y'all wanna hear.

The last time I recorded something was when cassettes were new. If anyone really wants to hear me or my guitars, he or she will just have to do it in person.

Absolutely, Damon! If you can't share it with us, who can you share it with?

(And I'm with you, Mike - if I posted one, my guitars would probably be revoked!)

Me, too, Mikey! And I spent all my money on guitars so I can't afford any recording equipment!

Here's last Friday. I'm singing and playing the electric, a Peavey T-60 (The acoustic you hear is an Ovation Standard Eleite Contour though). Couldn't figure out how to embed it here from the ning site, so here it is off my site.

http://web.me.com/damon67/Main_Site/Fri_at_Damans.html

I do have this clip, a few others, and 27 videos on the ning site though, not to mention more on Youtube.

http://ovationfanclub.ning.com/profile/Damon67

Nothing as pretty as Mike's stuff though.

Everything we do is digitally recorded on the house board (for what purpose I can't answer). I'll see if I can obtain a copy of something.

I had a recent soundclick thread here as well, though I make no claim to be in the same league as many of the folks here. :p :)

This was my first (and fav) video using a backtrack for the drums, keys, and bass.

Funny, I'm actually using a Roland AC60 acoustic guitar amp for my vocals with some chorus and delay to match Ozzy's over effected voice, and playing the UKII through a Carvin X100B half stack.

If that's not ghetto enough for ya, I'm actually recording using the built in mic on the computer. It's a wonder it didn't come out more distorted. All the other videos have a much better quality.

Sounds to me like an invitation to Mark's place for a house concert. Dibs on the couch!

That invitation's been open for a couple years, but I haven't had any takers. (The Wabbit doesn't count, cuz he showed up before I invited anyone.) No need to get dibs on the couch. Kids are gone and there's 3 empty bedrooms.
For a little more rustic version of Idaho I built a new deck at the cabin that would make a great stage, too. Probably not enough amperage for you electric guys there, but plenty of room for the acoustics. No firepit, though. We haven't resolved that issue.

You're welcome back anytime. Still the same old chair and cat, but quite a few different guitars. Sorry we didn't seem to get a NW get together this year. Maybe that's why I had time to build a deck.

I've been requesting Sara to step up to the mic for over 6 weeks now. Everything else is done, all it needs is a vocal track and final mixdown, and the next Top Ten hit is good to go. Or, at least a new song is ready to go.

You'll be the first to hear it here, whenever I can catch Sara at home long enough to spend an hour recording.

Ah yes, thats the road as I recall it....one of my fond memories is playing a river rafting saloon in WVa and having a couple who were 6 sheets in the wind come up to request a song and dump an entire pitcher of beer in my floor monitor...or the after hours club in Virginia Beach with dhicken wire in front of the stage: no, not the movie, real life!
....Ah yesssss.....maybe time to get a new place to play...

Hey, you know I played at a place in Virginia Beach back on Memorial Day weekend. It was a bar out on a fishing pier. Can't remember the name, but I do remember the name of the bar next to the parking lot. "The Thirsty Camel"

Oh wait, that's Norfolk I think. Is it? I remember it was on Ocean View Avenue because it reminded me of Dave's song "Ocean Street".

Dammit, now that song's going to be stuck in my head again!

I put a couple on my ning page, and a bunch on YouTube (search "Alan Miner" with the quotes)... All are, so far at least, experimental, and raw, and occasionally very funny (the cat going back and forth, or my 8-year old son trying to let me know my time is almost up, or the really funny mistakes*).

I'm getting better at "composing" them. ie: putting some structure to them. I'm kind of in the "Improv/Free jazz" arena, but have come to understand that SOME structure is essential. So, you all should recognize that anytime I place something "out there" in the public arena, it's an act of serious courage! But, they ARE, indeed, out there.

By the way...if you want to hear some GREAT guitar playing, catch up with Gregory Dobrov's offerings. That man is a SKILLED guitarist! He's "Dobro" in these pages.

* Why, I ask you, are all MY mistakes REALLY funny?!?!?! I can't seem to make the barely noticeable ones, that sound like nothing, or sound purposeful or the like. All my mistakes sound like a fat man passing gas at a poetry reading! (apologies for the imagery). And, of course, they ALWAYS appear in the middle of a particularly nice solo!

Ok...I just made a new one. Just for a lark. I call it "The Storm Before The Calm." I suspect it'll be obvious why.

Instruments: An Adamas 2080, a Glen Campbell 1118 12-stringer, and four beer bottles variously filled with water and tuned to a C Chord. (That's the drone in the background, as well as the "percussion")

It's short...'bout 2:40; so shouldn't impose too heavily on your time.

It's on the ning site.

Of course, I'd love to hear your comments.

Darkbar, I'm not that eager to post my really bad version of "Rhymes and Reasons" and other stuff. I'm sure that no one would be eager to hear it either.

When I get better, I promise I'll post something.

Thanks, bobbo! Egg on my face! I used to be a web site consultant, and didn't notice it! My apologies!

BTW, nice stuff.

I noticed that Kaki King and Dwight Twilley are friends of yours on the page...bet there's a story behind that!

I'll try to provide a more comprehensive appreciation of your stuff as I get to it. If, that is, you're looking for it.
