It's like OH, OH CLICK HERE FOR A BIG SURPRISE. How the hell do I know what I'm clicking on? Could be something really cool or could be a total waste of time.
Sorry to sound like an old fuddy duddy trying to impose my standards on others. Y'll go do what you want. CLICK THIS. |

This has nothing to do with the song. It's a great song. I love the video. I'm thrilled that you posted the link. That's not the point.
In my opinion it would be a shame if people passed it by because they didn't know what the thread or the link were so they just skipped it. That's all I was saying.
If I'm the only one, so be it. It's a free world and you can post whatever you want with whatever description you want, I really don't care. |

| stevens is a wussy englishman who, due to his religious conversion, supported the islamic death sentence against that author Salmond whatever his name was - that's the only significant thing to remember about cat stevens. |

Dave is making a valid point...I have been led to click on highlighted url's in past posts that I did not know what they were and wished later that I had not known at all...some things are not worthwhile to some and so simply by identifying what the link is, it simply lets the others know what they are going to see...better than being surprised with something that could possibly offend someone...this clip is great but others are not necessarily so good... |

Nothing to do with possible wasting time.. I do that often. Has to do with don't take candy from strangers, don't tug on superman's cape, don't covet they neighbors wife unless she's really hot and don't ever click on links if you don't know where they go. |

Really Miles I agree with you for the most part when im not sure who sent it., but i dont worry about it when a family member sends me a link, and considering this is an ovation family forum... ill take my chances.. no disrespect! |

Location: Florida Central Gulf Coast | Lil' hint here. When I place my cursor on a link, Firefox ids the site. I use it quite often. If you have doubts about a site, try Google to get more info.
Not sure about IE, but you can right click the link and go to 'Properties' to determine the sites addy.
Granted, it's not bulletproof. But most of us have been around the web long enough to get a 'feel' for the good, bad and ugly.
BTW, I steer away from many offshore domains...
Good luck! |

Well, yeah... I read it. It was wrong, of course... but I read it.
Geneo, don't get your shorts in a bunch. Dave has a valid point. You may think everyone here has nothing but good intentions towards you, but those of us who've been around longer know that is not always the case.
Plus it's simply good board etiquette. Not everyone here is computer savvy enough to have heavy defenses on their internet connection. If they think they're safer here than some other site... well, they're not.
"i dont worry about it when a family member sends me a link, and considering this is an ovation family forum..."
Sorry, have we met? This is NOT a "family forum", it's an Ovation forum. We try to keep it 'family friendly', but there's no morals test to join (that's probably a good thing, some of our best members are... but I digress).
Suffice to say more than one upstanding member here has been royally screwed by people who portray themselves as 'family' then run off with your Adamas. Or your money. Or both.

Yes, I understand now it's a link to a Cat Stevens/Yusef Islam video of some sort. Haven't looked yet but may later.
It's nice to have a hint.
This is no major dust-up at all IMO geneo. Just a sharing of points-of-view of which some may not have been aware. That's called good and clear communication...something not practiced enough in places like the internet. and real life. |

Cat Stevens/Dufus Yesmam babbling about Alfred Hitchcock and so stoned he can\'t complete a sentence or remember that he already introduced the band... until someone offstage tells him to get on with it. At which point he does a pretty good rendition of Peace Train. |

I guess I've been somewhat guilty of being cryptic in my listed link, but not so much in the actual post...
However, I have to admit, I HAVE kind of looked at the listed link as kind of a "marketing hook" to try to pull the reader in. The idea being that he or she then will read the post, and, I hope, respond.
So, I admit, I HAVE tried to be -- being charitable here -- "artful" in my listed links. The less charitable might say "devious" instead of artful.
I stand chastened!

That is a media spun mis-characterization of the events. To correct it would involve the discussion of theology so it will remain uncorrected here.
It's also a grossly unfair and dismissive characterization of his lifes record.
Consider-
The bulk of the proceeds generated from Yusuf's former career as "Cat" are donated to charitable works (over a million and a half annually). He is responsible for feeding and educating tens of thousands each year.
He has been recognized by countless world wide organizations for his unyielding dedication to humanitarian work.
He volunteered to participate in the musical memorial that followed 9/11 (putting himself at personal risk from radical's) and donated much of the sales of the Cat Stevens Box set (newly released at the time) to the families of the 9/11 victims.
It is telling that he was quietly removed from the US "no-fly" list without apology or explanation. Love or hate him but he has been completely consistent in living out his compassionate non-violent philosophy. It's a matter of public record. |
