I wanted to share the new addition to my musical family. I just got a Viper CV68 from Ebay. I'd been quietly longing for an EA68 USA model for some years, but could not convince myself to justify the cost, not being a professional musician. I.e., my playing doesn't bring in any $$$. When this used CV68 showed up, I bid and won at almost the starting bid. Just over $200. Not bad. I immediately liked it after unpacking and playing it. I'd never seen one of these thin body Ovations in the real world, so I was glad to find out I liked the size/shape as much as I hoped I would.

However, I found it had fret issues, as it was not playable above the 14th fret (yes, I do like to play up there occasionally). My guitar doctor tried to work just the offending region, but finally determined the only way to make things right was a full fret leveling job. All said and done (including shipping and fretwork), I ended up spending about $400 for the guitar (including a good case). Now it plays like an absolute dream. It's a wonderful instrument and looks sexy in black. I'm looking forward to playing it in public for the first time tomorrow night.

In other news, I finally had my "old" (first) guitar, a 1981 Takamine F340 dreadnought inspected and fixed by the doctor. I rarely played it outside the house, because there was something not quite right about its action. I couldn't tell precisely what the problem was. The solution was to replace the original plastic bridge with a professionally made Tusq bridge, and build up some of the slots in the nut (the slots for the e and B slots were cut too low). Now it plays and sounds like a dream. I got them both back the same day. It's like Christmas in April.
