Location: Miami | So the Ovation website describes my beloved Elite T neck thusly: "The rock maple neck profile has been slimmed down to give it a look and feel more appealing to electric players."
That's nice, but what the heck do I call it? "The slimmed down rock maple neck"? I sound like a salesman. I can't just call it "the Elite T" neck, because it doesn't apply to all Elite T's. (I own two with, one without). I don't want to call it the "Elite TX" neck because that leaves out the American T's that they started on. Ovation themselves didn't help. Their response:
"There is no designation for that neck, and is only found on that series." - Mike Oken, O rep.
It's not even across the entire series. And here's another annoying thing: I measured the nutwidths on the two, and they're both 1 11/16", so I can't refer to it by nutwidth. I measured the circumference using a piece of string, and the difference is about an eighth of an inch around the first fret (4 4/8" versus 4 5/8"). (Wrap your hand around the neck and touch your index or middle finger with your thumb and you'll see that this is not a negligible difference, particularly if you use your thumb on the low E string as often as I do.)
But what the heck do I call it? Unless someone has an accurate, catchy, or better designation, I guess it's the "skinnier neck", short for "that skinnier neck that only came on some but not all textured Elite T's and comes on the new black TX's".
I know. There are slightly more important things in life. But it bugs me nonetheless. |
