Okay.... I've got two of these. (Obviously)
I am hoping that I am not so shallow as to go by looks alone...
But by looks alone, which one would you (should I) Keep?

Call one the V or Chevron, and the other (I don't know) the straight grained one.
I bought one of these just to get the primo 9158 case. And I still have more guitars than cases.
So I figure that one of these is going.
So, any Opinions/Observations/Beauty Tips?

By looks alone as per your request I would keep the "V" as you put it. BUT, my understanding is the straighter more even grain will produce a "better" tone. Please correct me if I am wrong.

They are Celebrity CK047's... So I believe that they are plywood, so grain/tone don't matter.
The grain on these are just veneer for looks.
(Please Correct Me If I'm Wrong)
One of these days I gotta remember to buy one of those "Mirror-on-a-stick" thingies.

I would keep the straight grain and sell the V. To my eyes, the straight grain looks more like a "good guitar". Not only that, but the V might attract more buyers.

Shoulda posted this as a poll. It would've been easier to see the results. (Sell the V. Sell the V. Sell the V.)

Actually, the real issue is which one you find easier to play, because that's all that really matters. I know from experience that all Ovation necks are not created equal, so test them for sound (plugged, unplugged), playability and "heart" (does one "speak" to you more when you play it...or not?)

Will the difference you'll get for the looks of the one be worth it over the long run if you don't enjoy playing the one you end up keeping as much?

IF they are exactly the same, point for point, then sometimes it's just that intangible "something" that will be the deciding factor...

I'm keeping the Vee... Besides, it ain't stock no more.
It has an Artec Pickup and a Bone Saddle... Some buyers would think of that as imperfections.
Otherwise, I have no attachment to the new straight grain one.
Even tho' the Vee looks like stick-on wood-paneling repair stuff.
I have taken it outside and made a coupla bucks with it...
So I guess that makes us 'Buddies'... :D

So now I'm gonna see if I can sell it for what I paid for it, and still keep the case...

Those would have been my deciding factors. The new one was bought only for the case. You obviously chose the original for some reason. Unless the newer one had something special about it I would have a hard time getting rid of the one I had a history with.

Glad you were able to make a choice. Best wishes on your sale.

Sell them both, buy a proper Balladeer.

FWIW, I'm not a fan of the 'V' look.

I got a 40th Anniversary K-1111 Shiny Bowl Re-issue! Plus a regular ol' Green 1111...
How proper do I hafta be?

Like I have said, My impression of the V is that it looks like the walls of somebody's basement family room. Or that crap they use for walls in old aluminum mobile homes.
But it sounds nice (for what it is) plus I put a bone saddle and a new Undersaddle Piezo in there... And I am hoping that the plywood won't crack if it gets chilly outside. Sounds good through the MicroCube.
I figure that the second one that I got (straight grain) is stock, and relatively new. Therefore it is worth more on evilBay...
To be honest... I bought the V for the RoadRunner Case that came with it... and it was relatively cheap. Then I bought the second one for a 9158 case with the padded handle and "Ovation" in the fur...
So now I have almost enough cases.

I wheeled and dealed (and begged) and ended up with Flackster's soft fluffy case. Nice.

Yes, I'm a USO snob, not a big fan of Celibacies. They have their place, but not in mine.

Yo Muzza! You will notice that my Celebrity's are listed at the bottom of the sig line with all the other imported crap.
[Not to talk bad to Celebrity owner, cuz until recently all my "O's" were Celebrity's]
The Trekker has a crappy preamp installed, and I used it for 'Busking' (where did that work come from?)
But now I am using the CK cuz it looks prettier and not like it was attacked by a Dremel.
But when the weather is nice, I take out the Sweet T, or the T-12, or the 07C, or another T.
I got the green 1111 to play straight acoustic, but I am fighting against street noise.
I prefer to play a USO outside, but summer will be over soon and Portland is not famous for it's Great Weather. I will be sad if the weather destroys a $200 Celebrity... But no where near as sad as if I cracked the 07C!

OMA, out of curiousity, how many different songs do you play while Busking? Do you need a permit in Portland?

It's not like I'm planning on being competition for you. Heck, I could set up on the other side of the street and it would drive more business your way!

FlySig asks:
"OMA, out of curiousity, how many different songs do you play while Busking? Do you need a permit in Portland?"

First... I do not Sing. I can barely talk.
I wouldn't really think of doing it for a Job... I just go out and play.
While I am at it I collect money. It's a way of keeping score.
I usually only play for an hour or two. (Really, I play until I have to take a leak!)
I usually do not play all the way through my limited repertoire.
So about a dozen songs, maybe more. I really need to make a list someday.
(Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Moody Blues, ELP, Beatles, Animals)
I live in downtown Portland, so I play within walking distance of my building. 3-6 Blocks.

I have No Idea if I am supposed to have a Permit! [I don't need no steenking permit!]
In Portland, we have panhandlers on every exit ramp.
Beggars standing outside of every market with "Spare Change, God Bless" signs.
People find it refreshing (I hope) to see people playing music, or at least trying.
It also kinda forces interaction with the passersby.

The term comes from the Spanish word buscar, meaning "to seek". (To seek fame and fortune, or at least enough tips to buy some lunch.) Now before you all think I'm really smart or something, I just looked it up on Wiki. ;)
