The local community college has an "ethical hacker" curriculum.

There's an annual convention for Hackers in Las Vegas every year called DefCon. It's been going on for something close to 20 years. The federal government is clearly the leading customer for hiring hackers ... by a long way. I know people who hack for hire in case anyone needs a reference.

As appalling as the concept of YourHackerz.com is, I think that it is important to clarify that Yourhackerz and others of that ilk are a completely different kind of thing than ethical hacking. Every since Dan Farmer and Wietse Venema published their seminal paper " Improving the Security of Your Network by Breaking in to It in 1993, the kind of work done by Information Security professionals and "ethical hackers" was fundamentally changed. Though the "good guys" are almost always a step behind the "bad guys", it is only by engaging ethical hackers and using the same tools that hackers would use to penetrate a network (along with fundamental good network security practices) that we (the good guys) can try to keep our networks safe.

As an Information Security professional who has been in the field for 27 years now, I'm thrilled to see Ethical Hacking curricula turning up at colleges and universities. Finding skilled InfoSec professionals is tough - and another training vector is welcome.

... In addition to DefCon, Blackhat is another annual event in Las Vegas. Standing room only sessions to some of the most arcane hacking techniques being developed.
