Attention, Ovationistas!
I, Joisey Goil#1, am inviting my Ovation sisters to jam at my place, Oct. 23 to 25.
Come whenever you can, be it a short one-day stay, or arrive Friday night and stay through Sunday.
We can work out logistics as things progress--let me know who's "in," and which days you are able to come.
The "little yellow house" can fit 10 in the living room, sleep 7 if we come up with an inflatable mattress, and we can add to the soup as needs be.
There are also 5 motels right around me, one of which is 1/2 mile away, as well.
Think of all the new guitars you'll get to meet! ;)

Can I come in drag? Just kidding!

#1, I don't do that, and #2, it's REALLY hard to find dresses in my size!

Have a GREAT time! Make videos! Take pictures! Write descriptions, essays, postcards, memoes, posts, dispatches, reports, updates...you know, the usual!

Good idea, Karen. It's nice to see a solid group of female Ovation fans. The "Old Farts' Club" needs diversity.

Oh Karen, how I wish I could come! I will be here in the Hills, but I'll be able to at least call you so I can hear you ladies playing over the phone. ONE of these days within the next few years, I'm going to take a vacation!

Actually, Alan, finding the right-sized dress will be much easier than finding the right-sized pantyhose--or heels! :D :D ;)
(I'm sorry; I'll be good, now.)

I am quite sure that Sue Pep could find us on her own; if she would like to come, we'd be happy to have her!

It has been suggested that somehow we "webcast" this--please be advised that it will take someone will a great deal more techie ability than I currently have (or could ever dream to have, for that matter.) But, if one of you dear sisters is good at that kind of stuff, let me know. (If so, it'll mean having someone come in to prepare us for "Glamor Shots." :D ;) )

Begin to think over which guitars to bring; I have a Balladeer, Parlor, Patriot, Tornado, ssb Custom Elite and two shallows. I'm hoping to have 1271 Viper, too, so variety will be a good thing.

And...the motel right around the corner from me is a Best Wetern.

Wellllllllllll...now therein lies a funny story. I'm 6'4" and I had a girlfriend some time ago who was 6'2". She used to wear three inch heels just to be taller than I. We got a kick out of appearing together in public.

I'll see if I can borrow them from her!

You all have a GREAT time!

Not sure about the purple; I think cobalt would be better. :D ;)

"In" sisters, if you don't mind PMing me your e-mail addresses, it would be easier for me to update you with additional info and not tie up the board as much; if you'd rather not, that's o.k.--just let me know that in your response, too.

In an economics class one day, the professor asked, "Can anyone define the word quota?" The young lady from New Jersey raised her hand and said, "That's easy. It's twenty-five cents."

Michelle,

It won't matter a snipes beak where you're from (right, Bob?)! You'll have a blast and meet some of the sweetest ladies I've had the pleasure to encounter, in person and/or on-line.

Hopefully ya'll will develop enough of the OFC 'fever' that ya'll will have to attend more 'family' gatherings!

Have fun and take plenty of pics!!!

Iffy, I know I'll have a good time. I'll just have to get used to the funny accents, cause us "New Yawkers" don't have accents. Hee! hee! :D

Michelle, As the ONLY New Englander and I beleive the furthest most "Northener/Yankee" (as I was reminded of a few times LOL!) in a house full of Southern Rebels ;) at the recent SSSJ III, I have NEVER felt more welcomed, loved & accepted at a Gathering of any kind, as I did last week. Remember, you are not the only New Yawker, you will be one of many OFC'ERs and part of the family!! ENJOY!!! :)

Awww, Iff, that's very nice of you to say. I'd blush...almost...if I didn't totally agree with you. :D

Michelle, you won't be the 'only' there. I'm the only one from PA, as far as I know. I am looking forward to meeting up and getting to know in person some of the OFC sisters and having fun. I'm doing my best not to think about the fact that I'm am such a hack on the guitar compared to all the rest of you; so I'm hoping no one will wonder why I bothered to show up.

Depa, I'm sure you're not a hack guitar player. Being a hack player, now that's my forte. ;)

I'll just use this time as a way for improvement and to meet others (and eat good food :D ). The only way to get better is to be with better players, IMHO.

Speaking of food, all y'all better not use the word "good" until after you've had some of my cooking! :D ;)
Need to know, my sisters, if any of you have food allergies or are on special diets; also, if you're vegans or just eat fish and chicken, etc. I'm putting together ideas for meals and such now; I would ask that everyone bring their own favorite snacks and soda-type stuff, and I'll be glad to take care of the rest.
Starting to grin at the thought of this,

Well, Michelle, maybe we'll have to start our own little reality show..the biggest hacker. lol

Karen, as far as food goes...I'm not vegan (I do eat eggs and milk products but I am a veggie. BUT that really isn't a big deal. I'll pm ya.

I also don't expect you to take care of the rest when it comes to cost. I'm sure we all expect to donate toward cost of food. But when it comes to the actual cooking...I'm more than happy to help where I can but it's best left to those who know what they're doing. lol

Karen, I'm not on a special diet, I just don't eat peppers of any kind. And definitely I'll help with food cost. Looking forward to meeting everyone.

I have NEVER felt more welcomed, loved & accepted at a Gathering of any kind, as I did last week
That's 'cause they knew you were headed back north! (just kidding of course)

Yep, these get togethers are are a blast. No pressure to perform (thank goodness), No prima donnas, just lots of talented friendly folks having a GREAT time. It just DOESN'T get better!

I have a couple of non-Ovations but won't be bringing them.

If you can (and are willing to), remember to bring pictures of family and/or pets. I know there will be at least one grandma present...
Also, if you have music (tabs, cheatsheets, etc.) for favorite songs, bringing them will help the rest of us strum along--I have a copier if you need one.
Going grocery shopping Thursday--if you are a coffee drinker, let me know; I only drink tea, so don't have any fresh stuff in the house.
The grin is beginning to spread from ear to ear,

I don't know if we have any Adamases coming, so if you tote something along those lines that'd be pretty exciting. (And it'll be o.k. if we end up with more than one of something--I've bought different-colored ribbon to tie around case handles and above the nut on the guitars so we don't get anyone confused.)
If you can come, that'd just be prime; I will PM you all the info for me--I'm thinking I'm about and hour and a half from the arts center.

Hmmmmm...I'm not sure I have any current actual pics of family, or my pets. Since all of the family live in different states all of my pics live on my laptop because everyone emails them these days. The only pics of pets on the laptop too.

I thought the masking tape and Sharpie that gh1 used at our first NW Gathering was brilliant, and I still use it to keep my cases straight, but I suppose that wouldn't be feminine enough. It wouldn't work with guys, since we only recognize 6 colors and no one would want to go to a fabric store to get the ribbon.

Actually, my case won't need a ribbon. When I bought the guitar from Patch, the case came with a nice engraved name tag.

As far as IDing the guitars, that would be good because if you didn't, I'd "acccidentally" walk off with the Patriot! :D

I was looking at pics of the NW Gathering last night and noticed one of me holding a 1537 while looking at another one on a stand. I don't remember how I could tell them apart back then. Maybe I just took home the better one.
Michelle,
I keep thinking you need my Patriot much more than I do, but then I play it and decide that I may just wait until someone convinces me to sell it. I have several that I "need" less than that one.

Well, my sisters, I need to ask you to leave your white gloves at home--the little yellow house will definitely not be a "Better Homes and Gardens" candidate this weekend. I had planned to Liquid Gold the kitchen cabinets, move the living room furniture and wash the baseboards, scrub the bathroom floor with fine steelwool to remove any errant paint splatters--but I suffered one of those "candidate-for-America's-funniest-home-video" moments yesterday while painting said bathroom and dislocated my right kneecap. I've probably done some other stuff in there, too, if the swelling is any indication, but I am not doing the medical thing until after the jam is over--no way am I missing this! I can get around--just not too fast.....
So, I may need some help in the kitchen and with making beds, but at least the four walls are all the same color (and there wasn't a cascade of paint all over the place after it happened.)
Two more sleeps, and then the fun begins!! :D :D

Well ladies, you will be on my mind all weekend. I wish I could make it, but I guess we'll have to settle for a phone call. If you call after 7PM mountain time, I'll be able to use my speakerphone so we can play guitar for each other. (I'll try taking the phone someplace where the echo isn't too bad.)I have the 1587 Adamas there, as well as my old 1617 Legend and the exquisite LX. Iffy's Parlor guitar is there too, as well as one of my Morgan Monroes.

Karen, I don't have white gloves. Even if I did, they would probably be dirty. :D Or I would lose one.

No problem about making the beds. However, I am a non-cook and wouldn't be a good help in the kitchen.

If you can manage it, please go see someone about the knee before we get there. Swelling is not a good thing.

Karen, I agree with the others. Please don't wait to get your knee looked at asap. Chances are they wouldn't do any big procedures until after the weekend anyway.

As far as the house goes, I don't even own white gloves. :-) I'm happy to chip in and help you out with whatever needs doing.

There just may be some truth in the rumor that women are instinctively better planners than men. As an example, food choices at my get-togethers include plain, barbecue, salt and vinegar, and nacho cheese flavoring.

Brad has a beautiful back yard. I guess it's actually more of a courtyard, with a park across the street. I thought the burger was great.
I noticed this planning difference in college. The guys would decide to have a party at the last minute and it was BYOB, then send someone out for beer and pizza after the party started. The girls would send out written invitations to their parties with a theme and an alphabetical list of food items and then plan what to wear for a week in advance.
For OFC gatherings, the guys just seem to plan on what guitars and beer to bring.

Well, for those of us in the female-folk world, there is more to a get-together than beer and guitars... :D ;) ...and since we usually end up preparing the food part, we do tend to plan ahead.
That's why what we're having for lunch is definitely not beer and pizza (but...we do have root beer, and there will be pizza Saturday night--not spur of the moment, though, but thoughtfully planned out.)
The decor will tend to be a bit different--after all, how many guys would go out and buy flowers?
But...the end result promises to be the same--a good time with guitars and friends, and since I've already done the knee thing, no trips to the emergency room in the middle of the night. ;)
Soon and very soon,

Well, I suppose you could pick out something to complement your guitar straps.....or the guitars themselves. :D
(The -4 finishes go with everything, as do the black or beige straps....)
I am planning a wardrobe around jeans and sneakers...keep in mind, though, there are going to be pictures, probably lots of them.

Same here. Since the forecast is for rain all day Saturday  I think my guitars will be dressed in green garbage bags accessorized tastefully with silver duct tape. :D

Well, all's I know is, the folks who aren't among the gatherees are always hoping for on-the-spot pictures of those who are.
(What they don't realize is, the hostess at this particular gig isn't too good with uploading the pictures--I'll gladly take them with my cheapie HP digital, but will need some help with the actual "broadcasting" thereof.)
Are we there yet? Pretty awfully close! :D :D

Anita, while looking for pics to bring to the gathering, I came across a picture of me taken over 20 years ago. I'm gonna bring it cause when you see me now, you wouldn't believe I was a lot thinner!

If we could do a webcam with two tin cans and a piece of string, then it would be within the realm of my capabilities. :p

As it is, we are getting the things that are important: freshly ironed tableclothes, a flower or two, ribbons for the cases, and a phone call to Ali at 9 o'clock sharp tomorrow night, our time.

(A disclaimer: The referred to tableclothes have not been ironed according to the "Martha Stewart protocol," whereby you must

Open the cloth's packaging with latex gloves
Place the cloth on an ironing board encased in a new, unused cover
Use only an iron that's been prepared with rubbing alcohol
Have two aides rotate the cloth as it's ironed, to ensure that no edges brush the flooring material
Said cloth is then borne to the appropriate surface by four servants in burgundy livery, processing in step to the beat of tympani strikes.
Cloth is then gently floated down to the surface, where the edges are carefully measured for equal distance from the floor, using a micrometer.
End of disclaimer)

However, we will also not use the caveman method of installing the cloth, where you simply rip off the cover, shake it out, and then throw it on the table.
A happy medium will be observed. Which reminds me, I need to go do the tableclothes so that Jewel and Johanna can be restrung in style. :D ;)

This is gonna be so much fun!

Well, the closest I come to a webcam is a digital camera that takes about 30 seconds of video, which is all you would need to determine that my playing is bad!

During the short time I've been on the forum I don't recall any of the other jams/get-togethers providing webcam coverage. Why would we do that?

Since I am terribly camera shy, I'm hoping we can reach some sort of agreement tomorrow regarding pics and/or vids while I'm at the jam. I have an idea for a work around that won't put a damper on any of the fun. :D

I was just kidding about the webcam. Miles tried the webcam at the NW Gathering last year. It didn't work too well. I'm not too into having my picture taken either. I hate the reflection of the flash off my bald head and never have liked how my voice sounds when it's recorded, but it is nice to see pictures of the people that we chat with on the board all the time. Mostly, however, we're just into looking at pictures of the guitars.

The main problem with the webcam was that I had to walk past it in order to get to the beer. I'm sure "there goes Mark, again" got a bit boring for the viewers.

Karen, do NOT worry about your house! Good grief, woman! Aren't we all nutz? I would have been "Liquid Golding" the cabinets and stuff too, but we are so silly. I have a lovely house, but things are almost always in um "dis-array, if you know what I mean ... after all there are guitars everywhere. NO one will be examining your house ... they'll be looking at all of each others guitars. Take care of that knee! I had mine operated on a few years ago (not the other surgery I told you about). It was a teensy piece of torn cartiladge that had me on crutches for six months. It took a four hour stay at a surgical center and a week on crutches after the surgery ... don't suffer if you can avoid it!

I have a webcam, and I don't like to use it, but I would if it means I get to see some of you girls! Watch out for any strange looking unusually large or hairy looking women trying to join the group ... pajama parties usually have a crasher ...

;)
Hugs,
Willa

First report of the day:
Anita got in about 4:30, and I'm sorry to say that we didn't have beer or pizza--but, between us, 13 flavors of ice cream. Yes, I am taking pictures--yesterday afternoon's shoot was my guitars with Cheryl's black T; this morning's will be Anita's and mine, and then the others added in as they arrive. (Am running out of space...I wonder how fast an addition could be put up...?) ;) :D

I got to try her 1861 (black), 1712 and 1621 (beautiful tobacco bursts) and W597 (black.) I know that the 597 gets a few gentle knocks around here because of its' top, but I'd forgotten just how killer its' sound really is. So, now I've got GAS--not for that guitar (I hate the V necks), but for that clarity of sound. Through an amp, just so clean and ringing. Siiiigh.

Went to bed after 1:00; up now to make a bagel run--there's no way anyone's taking pictures of the Louis Viton bags under these eyes!

More as things unfold,

--Karen

We are finally all here; Cheryl just got in from her trip to NC; total number of gits: 16.
Depa, 2; Cheryl and Michelle, 1 each; Anita, 4; Karen, 8. (No room in the living room for human folk; it's a good thing the guitars of the world haven't decided to revolt and take over.......)
(For those who want to know, pictures will be uploaded by the more technologically capable.)
We are still eating and talking; like I said before, this is more like a pajama party with guitar interruptions. ;)

I arrived home about 20 minutes ago.

WHAT A BLAST!!!!! My first jam; definitely not the last. It is sooooo much fun playing with others. A few of the songs we played I already knew but had grown bored with on my own. Playing with a group brought back a lot of excitement and joy to the songs.

Great food. Even greater company. Ate lunch and chatted. We played gits until our fingers violently protested. I gave a go at a couple of the guitars by playing lefty upside down. I could probably get quite use to that if I had a mind too. And the others even gave my lefty guitars a go. We had more wonderful ocnversation as we ate supper....pizza and root beer/gingerale/water....Then, alas, was time for me to head home.

Karen is a wonderful host! Thank you Karen. And thanks to Michelle, Anita, and Cheryl for making this such a wonderful day for me. I don't know when the last time was I had so much fun and laughter.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend ladies. I'll be thinking of you.

Ohhhh....everyone is still going to have to wait for pics. I didn't take my camera with me. Isn't the anticipation just killing you? :D

Ever hosted a party and were afraid that perhaps no one would come? That was me back at the beginning of this thread, all those weeks ago.

Now, the other favors of ice cream have all melted away, the outbursts of laughter are stilled, and there's a forlorn, quiet, empty feeling inside the little yellow house. Guitars are nestled back inside their ribboned cases, rooms restored to their rights...and I can't wait for the next one! (Chicken salad isn't nearly as much fun by yourself!)

Thanks, many thanks, to Anita, Michelle, Depa and Cheryl for making this all happen...and Ali, Willa, we are looking forward to the time when you can join us. (Black Hills Jam, anyone??)

Well I sure had a good time playing guitar over the phone with my friends. It sounded like such a great time, and although I couldn't be there in person, I got to hear Karen's beautiful new song, got to hear Michelle and Anita play, played the new one I wrote, a little Over the Rainbow, and even a Christmas song. (Time to start practicing those again.)Even the speakerphones cooperated - not too much echo. I didn't get to eat any of the great food I heard about, and I missed Cheryl and Depa, but there will be other times. (Maybe here in the Hills next summer!)

What a fabulous time I had! You gals were great. I hadn't played guitar so much in a long time. My callouses definitely got a workout. And laughed as much in a long time.

This won't be my last get together for sure.

Well. Between my own computer illiteracy and the fact that my tower won't cooperate with me, the shots of what the ice cream truck delivered are still stuck in my camera. :p
The tower won't open the cd port to put in the disc to install the HP camera software...and even I know better than to pry it open (somehow.)
(Anita did take pictures, too, and she was going to post them on her Ning page.)
Oh, well, if mine stay "secret" long enough maybe Brad can use them in the 2011 calendar....

Hey, all
I just added photos on my ning site so if some savvy
person can get them over here, y'all can see all the fun we had. I was like a kid in a candy store. All those O's, I didn't know where to start. I loved Karen's Patriot, it smelled wonderful inside like a woodburning fire. I also loved the Parlour, I would love to get my hands on one of those for myself and I absolutely fell in love with her Tornato.
Then, Michelle showed up with her Collector's 02. Oh, my!!! I played that the rest of the time.
We all got left-hand lessons from Depa07, that was fun.
My first and definitely NOT my last gathering either. Again thanks to Karen who was a wonderful hostess.

Thanks, Anita. I'm terrible about taking pictures at the gatherings. I don't know if I've even taken a camera to one, but I sure enjoy living vicariously by looking at the pics that other people post. We enjoy drooling over guitars.
Those 2002s sure remind me of my 99 Collector. Just had a twinge of seller's remorse.

Thanks, Anita, for uploading the pictures;
As you can see, the female-folk did all y'all proud--I know that there could have been at least one more git present that wasn't: Cheryl's Deluxe Balladeer. (I had stopped by her house and gotten the T, but I didn't remember the Balladeer until it was too late...)
This was really special, all the way around. Lots of fun...lots of laughter...and, the best part, future gatherings to look forward to.

No video, but I did notice my pictures got clearer the more tired I got. How weird is that?
I'm still on a high. :D
