I, Joisey Goil#1, am inviting my Ovation sisters to jam at my place, Oct. 23 to 25.
Come whenever you can, be it a short one-day stay, or arrive Friday night and stay through Sunday.
We can work out logistics as things progress--let me know who's "in," and which days you are able to come.
The "little yellow house" can fit 10 in the living room, sleep 7 if we come up with an inflatable mattress, and we can add to the soup as needs be.
There are also 5 motels right around me, one of which is 1/2 mile away, as well.
Think of all the new guitars you'll get to meet! ;)

(I'm sorry; I'll be good, now.)
I am quite sure that Sue Pep could find us on her own; if she would like to come, we'd be happy to have her!
It has been suggested that somehow we "webcast" this--please be advised that it will take someone will a great deal more techie ability than I currently have (or could ever dream to have, for that matter.) But, if one of you dear sisters is good at that kind of stuff, let me know. (If so, it'll mean having someone come in to prepare us for "Glamor Shots." :D ;) )
Begin to think over which guitars to bring; I have a Balladeer, Parlor, Patriot, Tornado, ssb Custom Elite and two shallows. I'm hoping to have 1271 Viper, too, so variety will be a good thing.
And...the motel right around the corner from me is a Best Wetern.

Michelle,
It won't matter a snipes beak where you're from (right, Bob?)! You'll have a blast and meet some of the sweetest ladies I've had the pleasure to encounter, in person and/or on-line.
Hopefully ya'll will develop enough of the OFC 'fever' that ya'll will have to attend more 'family' gatherings!
Have fun and take plenty of pics!!! |

Michelle Michelle, As the ONLY New Englander and I beleive the furthest most "Northener/Yankee" (as I was reminded of a few times LOL!) in a house full of Southern Rebels ;) at the recent SSSJ III, I have NEVER felt more welcomed, loved & accepted at a Gathering of any kind, as I did last week. Remember, you are not the only New Yawker, you will be one of many OFC'ERs and part of the family!! ENJOY!!! :) |

Need to know, my sisters, if any of you have food allergies or are on special diets; also, if you're vegans or just eat fish and chicken, etc. I'm putting together ideas for meals and such now; I would ask that everyone bring their own favorite snacks and soda-type stuff, and I'll be glad to take care of the rest.

Karen, as far as food goes...I'm not vegan (I do eat eggs and milk products but I am a veggie. BUT that really isn't a big deal. I'll pm ya.
I also don't expect you to take care of the rest when it comes to cost. I'm sure we all expect to donate toward cost of food. But when it comes to the actual cooking...I'm more than happy to help where I can but it's best left to those who know what they're doing. lol |

It wouldn't work with guys, since we only recognize 6 colors and no one would want to go to a fabric store to get the ribbon. |

--Karen Actually, my case won't need a ribbon. When I bought the guitar from Patch, the case came with a nice engraved name tag.
As far as IDing the guitars, that would be good because if you didn't, I'd "acccidentally" walk off with the Patriot! :D

Michelle,
I keep thinking you need my Patriot much more than I do, but then I play it and decide that I may just wait until someone convinces me to sell it. I have several that I "need" less than that one. |

Location: Budd Lake, NJ | Well, my sisters, I need to ask you to leave your white gloves at home--the little yellow house will definitely not be a "Better Homes and Gardens" candidate this weekend. I had planned to Liquid Gold the kitchen cabinets, move the living room furniture and wash the baseboards, scrub the bathroom floor with fine steelwool to remove any errant paint splatters--but I suffered one of those "candidate-for-America's-funniest-home-video" moments yesterday while painting said bathroom and dislocated my right kneecap. I've probably done some other stuff in there, too, if the swelling is any indication, but I am not doing the medical thing until after the jam is over--no way am I missing this! I can get around--just not too fast.....
So, I may need some help in the kitchen and with making beds, but at least the four walls are all the same color (and there wasn't a cascade of paint all over the place after it happened.)
Two more sleeps, and then the fun begins!! :D :D

If you call after 7PM mountain time, I'll be able to use my speakerphone so we can play guitar for each other. (I'll try taking the phone someplace where the echo isn't too bad.)I have the 1587 Adamas there, as well as my old 1617 Legend and the exquisite LX.
--Karen, a/k/a "Gimpy." Karen, I don't have white gloves. Even if I did, they would probably be dirty. :D Or I would lose one.
No problem about making the beds. However, I am a non-cook and wouldn't be a good help in the kitchen.
If you can manage it, please go see someone about the knee before we get there. Swelling is not a good thing.

Karen, don't wait on that knee, I've got a bum right one. It's why I'm retired from the police department. In fact I need more surgery now but I know what's going on in there.

As far as the house goes, I don't even own white gloves. :-) I'm happy to chip in and help you out with whatever needs doing. |

I noticed this planning difference in college. The guys would decide to have a party at the last minute and it was BYOB, then send someone out for beer and pizza after the party started. The girls would send out written invitations to their parties with a theme and an alphabetical list of food items and then plan what to wear for a week in advance.
For OFC gatherings, the guys just seem to plan on what guitars and beer to bring. |

That's why what we're having for lunch is definitely not beer and pizza (but...we do have root beer, and there will be pizza Saturday night--not spur of the moment, though, but thoughtfully planned out.)
The decor will tend to be a bit different--after all, how many guys would go out and buy flowers?
But...the end result promises to be the same--a good time with guitars and friends, and since I've already done the knee thing, no trips to the emergency room in the middle of the night. ;)
Soon and very soon,

As it is, we are getting the things that are important: freshly ironed tableclothes, a flower or two, ribbons for the cases, and a phone call to Ali at 9 o'clock sharp tomorrow night, our time.
(A disclaimer: The referred to tableclothes have not been ironed according to the "Martha Stewart protocol," whereby you must
Open the cloth's packaging with latex gloves
Place the cloth on an ironing board encased in a new, unused cover
Use only an iron that's been prepared with rubbing alcohol
Have two aides rotate the cloth as it's ironed, to ensure that no edges brush the flooring material
Said cloth is then borne to the appropriate surface by four servants in burgundy livery, processing in step to the beat of tympani strikes.
Cloth is then gently floated down to the surface, where the edges are carefully measured for equal distance from the floor, using a micrometer.
End of disclaimer)
However, we will also not use the caveman method of installing the cloth, where you simply rip off the cover, shake it out, and then throw it on the table.
A happy medium will be observed. Which reminds me, I need to go do the tableclothes so that Jewel and Johanna can be restrung in style. :D ;)
This is gonna be so much fun!

I hate the reflection of the flash off my bald head and never have liked how my voice sounds when it's recorded, but it is nice to see pictures of the people that we chat with on the board all the time. Mostly, however, we're just into looking at pictures of the guitars. |

Location: Right now? | Karen, do NOT worry about your house! Good grief, woman! Aren't we all nutz? I would have been "Liquid Golding" the cabinets and stuff too, but we are so silly. I have a lovely house, but things are almost always in um "dis-array, if you know what I mean ... after all there are guitars everywhere. NO one will be examining your house ... they'll be looking at all of each others guitars. Take care of that knee! I had mine operated on a few years ago (not the other surgery I told you about). It was a teensy piece of torn cartiladge that had me on crutches for six months. It took a four hour stay at a surgical center and a week on crutches after the surgery ... don't suffer if you can avoid it!
I have a webcam, and I don't like to use it, but I would if it means I get to see some of you girls! Watch out for any strange looking unusually large or hairy looking women trying to join the group ... pajama parties usually have a crasher ...

Anita got in about 4:30, and I'm sorry to say that we didn't have beer or pizza--but, between us, 13 flavors of ice cream. Yes, I am taking pictures--yesterday afternoon's shoot was my guitars with Cheryl's black T; this morning's will be Anita's and mine, and then the others added in as they arrive. (Am running out of space...I wonder how fast an addition could be put up...?) ;) :D
I got to try her 1861 (black), 1712 and 1621 (beautiful tobacco bursts) and W597 (black.) I know that the 597 gets a few gentle knocks around here because of its' top, but I'd forgotten just how killer its' sound really is. So, now I've got GAS--not for that guitar (I hate the V necks), but for that clarity of sound. Through an amp, just so clean and ringing. Siiiigh.
Went to bed after 1:00; up now to make a bagel run--there's no way anyone's taking pictures of the Louis Viton bags under these eyes!
More as things unfold,

Depa, 2; Cheryl and Michelle, 1 each; Anita, 4; Karen, 8. (No room in the living room for human folk; it's a good thing the guitars of the world haven't decided to revolt and take over.......)

WHAT A BLAST!!!!! My first jam; definitely not the last. It is sooooo much fun playing with others. A few of the songs we played I already knew but had grown bored with on my own. Playing with a group brought back a lot of excitement and joy to the songs.
Great food. Even greater company. Ate lunch and chatted. We played gits until our fingers violently protested. I gave a go at a couple of the guitars by playing lefty upside down. I could probably get quite use to that if I had a mind too. And the others even gave my lefty guitars a go. We had more wonderful ocnversation as we ate supper....pizza and root beer/gingerale/water....Then, alas, was time for me to head home.
Karen is a wonderful host! Thank you Karen. And thanks to Michelle, Anita, and Cheryl for making this such a wonderful day for me. I don't know when the last time was I had so much fun and laughter.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend ladies. I'll be thinking of you.

Now, the other favors of ice cream have all melted away, the outbursts of laughter are stilled, and there's a forlorn, quiet, empty feeling inside the little yellow house. Guitars are nestled back inside their ribboned cases, rooms restored to their rights...and I can't wait for the next one! (Chicken salad isn't nearly as much fun by yourself!)

I just added photos on my ning site so if some savvy
person can get them over here, y'all can see all the fun we had. I was like a kid in a candy store. All those O's, I didn't know where to start. I loved Karen's Patriot, it smelled wonderful inside like a woodburning fire. I also loved the Parlour, I would love to get my hands on one of those for myself and I absolutely fell in love with her Tornato.
Then, Michelle showed up with her Collector's 02. Oh, my!!! I played that the rest of the time.
We all got left-hand lessons from Depa07, that was fun.
My first and definitely NOT my last gathering either. Again thanks to Karen who was a wonderful hostess.
