OFC Health Warning : This is OFF TOPIC!

Many years ago (before I had any acoustic guitars or a mortgage) I went to the Acoustic Guitar Centre with a wad of 'spare' cash. I planned to buy an Ovation.

They didn't have many Ovations (cannot remember what they were) but at the time none of them spoke to me.

I tried pretty much all the guitars in the shop over a few hours and narrowed it down to a Taylor W12C and a Fylde (again cannot remember the model).

They couldn't be more different, the Taylor was USA built and had bling, glorious highly figured Claro walnut back and sides and a cedar top. The Fylde, hand made in England (by one of the top English luthiers, Roger Bucknall) in very small numbers but very understated, no bling, mahogany back and sides with a cedar top.

Both sounded great but settled on the Taylor which continues to make me smile everytime I play it. It just gets better and better as I do. But for years hangered for a Fylde...

That's until last night! Won a second hand Fylde Olivia on Ebay, 28 years old but mint condition, loved by one owner, never gigged. Who needs a tonerite ;)

Suppose it was "Puck" or maybe "Belch", Olivia's brother?

I'm pretty sure Eric Bibb uses Fylde guitars.

The Fylde Olivia arrived.

Oh my! My oh my! In a word, WOW!

OK so the strings were about 100 years old and rusty but she (and I hate to call a guitar she but it is called Olivia afterall) sings, the sustain is quite something. Solid mahogany back and sides and top grade solid cedar top, highly figured rosewood fingerboard. It's had 28 years to open up but I reckon in another 28 years it will be better still.

Gave it a real good clean, some mineral oil on the neck and some new Elixirs, it so sweet.

The construction and woods just ooze quality, it's light yet solid.

Amazing that it's 28 years old, looks in better condition than guitars a few years old. Like the previous owner said he bought direct from Roger Bucknall (Mr. Fylde) and it's never left his home and played very little over the years, not even fretwear.

The 1537 has met it's arch rival. Not that I'm ever going to sell the 1537. These two guitars are going to be fighting for my attention for some time to come. Pics to follow.

Of course when the FD14 comes back from the spa with new top and glossed neck all hell is going break loose, it's not going to be easy keeping all three happy, there are only so many hours in the day ;)

Dweez, I know you've been on the hunt for one for a while now. Glad to see it finally came together. Congrats.

We have an expression over here (I'm sure you have something similar)...

"It's like London buses..."

Meaning you wait for years and then they all turn up at once

There's a nylon string Fylde one on Ebarf at the moment and sharky has developed a taste for them
