Is the Viper bridge/pickup saddle setup any different than a regular Ovation?

For instance, would there be any reason the factory would make cut the bridge channel for the pickup assembly in deeper than usual, cutting into the top itself?

My EA-68 was routed thru to the top. So was my 82 Legend, though.

But beyond and into the top? It's cut into the top and tapering too from treble to bass side. It's deeper on the bass side.

Mine was just barely into the top on the Viper, so yours sounds different. My take though is, I wouldn't worry about it since it's solid mahogany under the bridge. Structurally, it shouldn't be an issue.
I did fill the bottom of the cavity on my Legend, though. I just didn't like the idea of the PU sitting on nothing but spruce and braces. I used .32" ebony cut and glued to fit. Then shims on top of that.
