I have just about worn out the first CD by Orianthi Panagaris and now her next CD "Believe" is set to be released on Oct. 27...this is the guitarist from the Grammy awards show performance w/Carrie Underwood and Michael Jackson's guitarist for the "This Is It" tour (that was it)...She is signed w/Geffen Records and 19 Entertainment...and she rocks!
Her first single is "According to You" of which I have a promo copy: it is incredible!
Here is a taste of her talent on "Now or Never"
"Now or Never"

Carlos Santana summed it up best with this quote:
It's not cure anymore; it's seriously ass whupping
24 years old....incredible!

Thanx Mike...

Here is the start of a seven part YouTube set with Orianthi and Carlos from 2006.

Get them while they are young, and they will not stray when they grow old!

Hey Moody! I think we've cruised all those places in that Now or Never video! And you can see my hometown in the background of the beach scene.

As far as the music ... yawn. The video was formulaic pubescent pop. Nothing groundbreaking or even interesting about it. The guitar work? Fine, but I heard that sound and all those licks a thousand times over in the 70's and 80's. Time to get over it. I'll take Susan Tedeschi any day of the week.

Just my opinion.

Makes me wish I was 20-something again.

That girl should have a newly manufactured Breadwinner in her hands. Heck, put a Hamer logo on it if you must. Upgrade the product with modern finishes and offer modern pickups.

Thanks for posting that, MM. I really wasn't that familiar with her (so much music so little time), but I had seen that video before. When I saw Orianthi perform with Santana, I thought she was his daughter. Maybe she's his love child ...

Susan Tedeschi is great. I have a lot of her stuff. I love the way she sings "Lost Lover Blue's" & "Hurts So Bad"

;)

Well, she's gobs better than I am. But she doesn't seem to exude much 'stage presence.' She's cute and talented, not visionary and riveting.

(typical whiney wannabe guitar player comments)

I'd have to agree.

I listened to the links in this thread last night and thought; well she can play a lot of notes but can she play one note.

Nice looking girl and really slick player but the music is totally empty IMO. Maybe she'll get better if and when she has something to write about or if she hooks up with someone who has something to write about.

Grumpy Old Men! :p

I got it... She needs to live on the streets, be a junkie, and spend some time in the slammer...

Y'know White Folks don't have the Soul for the Blues. (And she is awfully White!)

Even Carlos sez that she needs some time to develop her own Style.

I can’t ever see Clapton as a blues player; more of a british poser just imitating the blues whereas Winter is part of the long line of real bluesmen. Clapton could record Happy Birthday and it would be a hit but he’s not the real deal IMO anyway.

I remember seeing the videos of the rehersal with Michael Jackson and saying this chick ain't bad. Never heard of her before or since.

I don't know if she's a guitar goddess, but I wouldn't kick her out of my band either.

Get her together with Tal Wilkenfeld (Jeff Beck's bassist) and you've got a guaranteed music-video hit, no matter the music.

I watched/listened to the video/song in MusicMishka's original post and agreed with others who felt she was more "contemporary pop" than "guitar goddess." With her appearance, pop video, one-word name and connection to Michael Jackson, I dismissed her as "not my thing" and stopped there…

…then I saw a mention of Tal Wilkenfeld, (who I think is the most gifted bass player to come along in a long, long time,) plus a rumour that they might work together. Now THAT prompted me to go listen to some more of Orianthi's material, and I must apologize to MM for jumping to conclusions; Orianthi does seem to have some pretty solid chops and a lot of potential, which is not real obvious in the first video posted.

…and Tal & Orianthi are both Australian, where are the comments from our friends in the Southern Hemisphere?

Anyway, I'm convinced enough to listen to more, so I just ordered her CD ($7.99 on Amazon.)

Thanks Mike,

Okay... Before y'all start lumping Orianthi in with Miley Cyrus, she was playing with Carlos at NAMM 2005 , four years ago.
Now that she is getting put on the tube with Carrie Underwood and at Michael Jackson's funeral party doesn't make her a total sell-out.
The economy sux, you play with whomever you can!
Jimi Hendrix played on The Monkees tour, and was happy for the gig!
Some of y'all might have that kind of talent, but she plays alot better than I can.
So I ain't gonna accuse her of playing bubble-gum just cuz she's a cutie-pie.

I tend to try to be open and I listen to a lot of different styles/players...I am hard to impress and so much of it doesn't "float my boat" so to speak but this girl caught my ear...After listening to her earlier internet postings including her work w/Carlos at PRS events and NAMM, I bought her earlier CD "Violet Journey": hard to find and a bit expensive but shows off her talent in a great way...but this newer CD hits the home run...I will say that IMHO she is poised to become the biggest rock guitar sensation in many years...her new CD "Believe" is just incredible...every song shows off her soloing ability and for the most part the songs are very cool and just flow one to the next (great production work)...some of the songs take me back to a younger time when I was going through these same situations; but that just shows these situations are timeless. She has found a new way to express those timeless situations...
I look forward to the comments of those who have the new CD coming...
I'm thinking any project in conjunction with Tal Wilkenfeld would be a major musicial/concert event...
