In other words; someone beat you to it… |

If anything I would consider it to be on the low end of the scale.
What is your basis for that comment?
Sorry Rich but imho it is comments like yours that cause potential buyers of an excellent guitar at a good price to have second thoughts and lose out on a good opportunity. |

The last thing I would want to do is discourage anyone from getting this fine instrument. That is why I thought it was high but I will humbly stand to be corrected. |

Just means you were at the right place/right time.
We call that lucky where I come from! ;)
Tough times drag pricing down. I remember about a year or two ago these were routinely passing hands for around 1500-1800 and they were considered a bargain! |

I paid $400 for a barely played USA standard Strat, but I don't consider $700-$800 a high price for one. I was lucky. Right place, right time. |

Argggg, I give up....
From another site that has a large buy/sell board:
"You are NOT the "price police" of this board. If you don't agree with an item's price, or if you know a place where the same item is being sold for less, do NOT interfere or post your opinion/prices on the thread in question. The seller may not know what the "politically correct" price. Members posting prices or being hostile to the seller's threads will be warned or even have their accounts locked."
Good rules to live by, but they have nothing to do with a discussion on the general forum. If the guitar was posted on the buy and sell forum by an OFC member and I stated the price was a bit high, yes that would be price policing.
This is a discussion about a guitar that is for sale at a retailer. I pointed out that it was on consignment and that there is often room to bargain as the store most likely did not set the price (and that I thought the price might be high...based on my recent first hand experience ). So yes that is the problem I have with it. But, there are bigger problems I have to deal with. |

I guess it's a "guy thing" It's got a fat ass courtesy of the bridge being moved back. Standing upright it's one of the ugliest guitars you'll see. When it first came out I laughed at all the idiots who thought it was a visitation from on high.
Put it on your knee and play it and it's simply as good as guitars get. I've got more expensive ones, better looking ones, more comfortable to play ones. But it's the best. Any guitar I play, I judge it compared to the ute. Moody says it never floated his boat, people buy them, say they're the greatest and then sell them. But to me it's the best 6 string ever to come out of New Hartford, and the 12 string (all 5 of them - the rarest Adamas?) is simply one of the best guitars ever made by anybody anywhere ever.
Given that there's only 100 or thereabouts of them, $10,000 is cheap. I'm lucky - I could afford to buy any new acoustic out there and have it gold plated, but since I got the ute I've never even thought about buying an acoustic guitar.
(Except maybe Tom Tennant's custom ute and jW's custom pair - which are the equal of any guitars anywhere at any price.) |

Location: Phoenix AZ | Schroeder took the words right out of my mouth (there's a pun there somewhere ...) The U681 is far from beautiful in the traditional guitar sense (fine silking wood, exquisite trims and inlays, blah bling, blah bling). And I for one DO tend to buy with my eyes. But this little beast can stand with the best of them and my opinion is unchanged since strum one back in the day. Ditto on the 12, just like the man says. Hey I'm no barometer and why the hell should my actions mean much, but maybe stop and consider the various Adamas 6 and 12 strings that I've jettisoned in the last few years? While the U681 pair stand at the ready and are in constant heavy rotation. I just love the things, no matter how they may look. If the truely IS a price police, they should be arresting the people who sell these off so cheap. |

There are not many out there...so get on your horse and get a git that sparkles...er I mean shines :)
Just look at how nice they blend into the woods:

Rather than saying it is priced too high what you really mean is that you think you can get the same thing at a lower price.
It cuts both ways and as we all know "worth" and "price" are not the same thing.
Any one that has ever written a check for toilet paper while 5 days in to a 7 day hike should fully understand this. |

To put price into perspective... That is only a hunnert and change more than I paid for my 1681. |

My choice of epi's would probably have been different.
The UTEs are not ugly guitars. If they are ugly, what are you comparing them too? There is more to it than having a preference for blonds, brunettes, or redheads... muscular, lean, or meaty builds... or different flavors of ice cream.
IMHO, the UTEs are a fine example of form-following-function in an application of technology and non-traditional materials. I would compare them to other 12-fretters on playability and sound produced, but comparing their looks to beautiful woods does not make sense to me.
Some of the UTEs had random dull and/or shiny patches in the finish on their tops and there were some other random quality issues that some owners decided not to have corrected. I've seen some of those guitars go for less, but you get what you pay for.
The UTE at Elderly looks great. Their price is less than what we paid for them new and you rarely see UTEs up for sale. You can try to negotiate. You can wait and see if they'll lower their price. Someone will eventually buy it and be very happy.
Bottom-feeding is fun. Getting a great deal on a great guitar is priceless. Elderly's UTE is not a bottom-feeder's guitar.
