Location: Texas | This is perhaps a dumb question, but I have been meaning to ask you folks about it;
If you send an older O back to mother and they replace the bowl & top, the replacement would have to be a current-model top & bowl with current materials/bracing, etc., right? If you are willing to pay for the additional shipping, will they return the old parts?
Although it would be really nice to keep our vintage O's in identical condition to when they were made, it seems improbable and impractical for Ovation to retain enough old parts to replicate every model they have ever produced… it also implies that the only choice of parts would be from current USA-made models at the time the repair is made, since the "spa" is in the US?
Does that make sense?
Thanks,

Location: Brighty in Blighty | My FD-14 is having a new top (and bowl etc). They are replacing the top with NOS (new old stock) so it will be using the same wood as the original top. I've asked for the old top to be shipped back also, we shall see. The weight of a top cannot add much (if anything) to the return shipping cost.
As for bracing, I would imagine they would brace it the same or use a "better" (in their opinion) bracing technique, which is fine by me! They are the wizards afterall :p |

Location: South of most, North of few | I just sent a 1758 back for a top and bowl and it came back with the identical bracing, top material, color, etc... I also requested the old bowl back and they sent it to me. The old parts thing is not a given as the crew that does your guitar may not get the message before they trash the old parts. That said, all the guitars I've sent back for major repairs have come back as new. |
