Hello, my name is Kris! I recently bought an Ultra 1512. I got a great deal on it because the electonics don't seem to work, and because the neck is starting to separate from the body...despite these issues it is the nicest fullest sounding acoustic I've ever owned!
I'm trying to find out when it was made. The Ovation website doesn't mention it; the archive section just lists the Ultra 1312, 1517, 1527, etc. Can anyone please point me to a website or other resource?
Thanx!!

Hello Kristoph & welcome! I too have a 1512 & I agree - the thing just booms! Anyway, to answer your question the 1512's seem to have been available only in 86. At least that's the only listing I've seen for them. USA made, laminated top, but boy the sound. Mine happens to be the -8 color scheme which is dark blue to light blue burst. Very nice. Enjoy yours.

Check this out: http://www.ovationfanclub.com/files/prices.asp.

According to the price list, they were only available in 1983. Does the label inside say Made in the USA? Also, above the label, there should be a small rectangular label with a six digit number on it. You can check that against the serial number decoder available in the reference section.

Let us know what you find out.

The label does say Made in USA.
I see the price list with just one date listed for the 1512, in 1983.
The serial number is 340996, which would make it 1985 according to the decoder in the reference section.
Alan, you said it was only available in 1986 according to the only listing you've seen...can I ask where you saw that listing?
I'd describe mine as a "reverse blue burst"...it's a dark blue in the center and gets lighter toward the edges.
